There are many climate change skeptics around the world who have suggested that global warming is a new religion being spread by hysterical zealots like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore.
Last night, as reported by the Charleston Gazette, the prophecy was fulfilled (emphasis added throughout):
"Leaders from four Charleston [West Virginia] faith groups discussed global warming from a religious perspective Monday evening, discussing what they and their followers could do to raise awareness about the issue."
How depressing. The article continued:
"I am not convinced that most Americans and most people in this room are prepared to do what is required," said the Rev. Monsignor P. Edward Sadie, rector of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Charleston. "How many people here right now are willing to go without air conditioning and heat? How many are willing to buy smaller hybrid cars?"
[...]
"In America, it's the individual, not society as a whole, that matters," said the Rev. Dennis L. Johnson, senior minister of Charleston Baptist Temple. "As long as the individual is the center of our society then the problem will continue."
It is an issue of stewardship, he said.
"Regardless if the science on global warming is true, half true or not true, we have to be stewards of our planet for the next generation," he said.
Fascinating. So, it doesn't even matter if the science is true.
Yikes.

I can hear the message
August 28, 2007 - 11:35 ET by dscottI can hear the message from the pulpit now:
Brothers and Sisters, we must repent of our sins against mother Gaia. Our standard of living is an affront to Gaia. We must lead a lifestyle consistent with our beliefs and be pleasing to Gaia.
Please bow your head and close your eyes, this is an opportunity to make things right with Gaia and receive forgiveness. Anyone who has been running their air conditioner please raise your hands, bless you, bless you, and you too. Anyone who has taken vacation lately and flown on a plane, yes, I see a hand, bless you. Anyone who has driven their SUV they haven't sold last week, yes, I see many hands in repentance.
Now say after me, I will turn off the breaker to my air conditioner, I will no longer take vacation far from my home, I will sell my SUV as soon as possible but not drive it in the meantime. As a token of your repentance, we are passing around the collection plate for you to put in money for carbon offsets to undo the damage you have done by your sinning against Gaia. It is not enough to simply abstain, we must undo the damage by showing the appropriate contrition.
There are many deceivers out in the world telling you it is all a hoax, don't listen to them no matter how convincing they may be, because we know the Devil is the father of lies, how much more so are those who do his bidding.

How Poor Are America's Poor? Examining the "Plague" of Poverty in America

Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

August 28, 2007 - 13:30 ET by danboMy question. Will the Rev. Monsignor P. Edward Sadie live without air conditioning? Or heat? Will he drive a smaller hybrid car? Or will he be a hypocrite like so many of the Anthropogenic Global Warming preachers. Like head shaman Gore.

August 28, 2007 - 13:49 ET by dscottDoes a person who lives in South Carolina need to have heat??? Living in Florida, I might put on the heater two or three days a winter, wearing a sweater I might just decide not to at all, so does that mean me a sudo greenie? It's easy to preach you don't need heat if you live in the South, I wonder if he would feel the same way living in MN, ND or ME????. http://www.weather.com/outlook/events/weddings/setthedate/month/average/USSC0051?from=36hr_outlet_wedding

August 28, 2007 - 14:03 ET by danboI'm not as far south as you. But farther south than SC
I'll get into the low to mid 20's about a dozen or so nights a year. And maybe 2-3 dozen days with the highs in the upper 40's or low 50's. Plus we have a lot of humidity. I only need a little heat maybe 2 months a year. Now air....

August 28, 2007 - 12:12 ET by Sick-n-TiredI think the analogy lies in the fact that Jesus and his followers were outcasts and largely hated by the majority; to us 'skeptics' it would seem the same fate based on current attitudes towards the AGW farce. We can only hope that in the end the true believers and those that accept truth into their life will prevail to dispell the AGW hoax---otherwise we are all going to pay $$$$.
Shame on the Charleston faith groups; they can take the road well traveled or......

August 28, 2007 - 12:13 ET by HypocriteHater"How many people here right now are willing to go without air conditioning and heat?"
They now want us to give up air conditioning and heat??!!. That's f'ing bullsh*t! These people won't be happy until we're all living in caves eating dirt. And even then, they'd find something else that we need to give up to save the planet based on junk science. There's no way in hell I'm sacrificing my comfort just to bow down to the AGW gods. And most of the time it's not even about comfort, it's about survival! Last time I checked, the winters in Buffalo get a little chilly.

August 28, 2007 - 12:24 ET by dscottWell don't you know, the primary reason why Europeans use less electricity per household is due greatly to air conditioners. Europeans on average don't have them in their homes. Now take a look on the globe at the latitude of Europe in relation to the US. Notice anything? So if your country is virtually on the same latitude as Maine, air conditioning is not a necessity but a luxury of convenience. When you mix apples with oranges to make a comparison, you think one might come up with the wrong conclusion???
Yeah, sure, let's go without heat, it will kill the germs. I guess the next thing is super insulating your homes. Ah, the 1970s all over again.

Non-Scientists carry the message
August 28, 2007 - 12:24 ET by JayTeeThis is what happens when you let people like Al Gore, a NON-Scientist deliver a Scientific message.
Cspan had a GW sesssion, hosted by John Stossel, for the IWF or IFW or some women's organization, and they had a NON-Scientist speaking in platitudes, 80 ft. sealevel rising, and he stayed at such a high level, non-Science level, you couldn't hang your hat on anything he said.
He did Say (This was on CSPAN yesterday) that 9 of the 10 hottest years on Record were the last 10 years. Now this particular propaganda has already been rubuked, but none of the panelist took issue, and I don't think they even knew the Hanson NASA figures had been Revised....The MSM GW agenda works.
Non-scientists are carrying the ball to the Non-Scientist audiences, and it's propped up by MSM.
