For those that watched Monday's announcement by President Bush concerning the departure of White House advisor Karl Rove, as the two were walking away from the microphones, someone yelled out a rather disgraceful question (h/t NB reader Damian G).
According to FishbowlDC, that someone was CBS's Bill Plante, and the question was:
"If he's so smart, how come you lost Congress?"
Don't believe it? Check the video available here.
With that in mind, I change my vote for finest example of Rove Derangement Syndrome.
Anybody concur?

August 14, 2007 - 11:48 ET by DontTreadOnMeSo losing Congress is an example of not being smart?
I had no clue that Rove was involved in all those campaigns that lost.
And it begs to ask another question. How come people like Plante think the Clintons are sooo smart. Didnt they also lose Congress? And I believe that defeat was a bit more significant being that it was the 1st time in 40+ years.
Talk about shooting blanks, this is just an example of a juvenile adolescent reporter with nothing but caps for ammo.

August 14, 2007 - 11:57 ET by HelenSI don't understand what Rove has to do with Congress changing hand (singular - in honor of the number they have that defines their majority). He wasn't running (of course, if he had been, maybe Republicans would have prevailed :o)
Where is the validity of this question?
It seems to be a little appreciated fact that not every question uttered is a legitimate question. The abjectly stupid, like this one, should rightfully be ignored. Or take the little jackass behind something and smack him for being so annoyingly moronic. Or just for fun.

I bet he's pretty tough on the CBS playground during recess:)! After this comment I bet he pulled the hair of a girl from ABC, and then took a NBC reporter's lunch money...
This ongoing behavior on a daily basis makes the MSM look so good - so professional, such decorum, such maturity...
This is the way the "world's sole superpower's" press should behave I think.

August 14, 2007 - 12:21 ET by HelenSI don't understand the comment about Rove seeming to be a little snotty. He's not a PR guy or an ambassador of any sort, is he? Is he supposed to be campaigning for popularity or public good will?
He's low profile and seems to do his job well but I don't understand why we need to feel good in our tummies about him. (I actually never really knew enough about him to form an opinion one way or the other or even considered that I should. I just know that President Bush trusted him and I trust the President...)

August 14, 2007 - 13:03 ET by Dad GummitThe reason the GOP lost a congressional majority is because of the non stop campaign from the leftist media. Unfortunately, there are enough sheeple who still beleive anything a suit on TV says. If they reported straight up unbiased, only 20% of the populace would ever vote for a democrat. These would be the ones who are given a carton of cigarettes and a bus ride to the polls by the same people who filled out the registration forms for them.
That's not to mention the dead democrat voters who get resurrected every election cycle.

August 14, 2007 - 13:30 ET by mytwocentsYou are 100% correct, Dad Gummit. It would be amazing how differently all issues would be viewed if the media weren't an arm of the Democrat Party. I know many people who only watch the 'drive-by' media.

August 14, 2007 - 15:42 ET by JerThe tone and timing of Plante's question seemed in poor taste to me also. But it has been a bipartisan practice of the White House press corps for some time. Plante apparently engaged in the same behavior with Clinton, and I know that Sam Donaldson did, who although a Democrat, did not like Clinton.

When President Clinton held a press conference to announce the departure from the White House of his long-time aide and friend George Stephanopoulos, do you think Plante or Donaldson shouted out, "If he's so smart, how come you lost Congress?"
No, I don't think so either. :-) ns

August 14, 2007 - 23:28 ET by JerNoel, I don't have the faintest idea what questions, if any, were shouted to Clinton at the Stephanopoulos departure. I don't think he was perceived, as was Rove, as the architect of either victory or defeat for the Democrats. [Frankly, Clinton had only himself to blame for the loss of Congress. Well, he and a hunkered down Democratic majority who were just hoping they could somehow weather the Gringrich-lead storming of the gates.]
But that doesn't change the fact that there were a number of occasions where, upon witnessing the behavior of reporters with Clinton, I felt the same sense of discomfiture that I experienced upon viewing the Rove incident.
Jer
Ah, and a CBS guy said it.
August 14, 2007 - 20:25 ET by pbthinkerConsidering the source, both the man and the organization, it was a pretty dumb comment. If I remember correctly, it wasn't Rove who was running away from the President, before the elections. It wasn't Rove who was spending money like a drunken sailor, it wasn't Rove who was taking money from lobbyists and hitting on congressional interns, so let's push Rove aside for the 2006 elections. How many people believe the Democrats won the 2006 election because people wanted to stop the war in Iraq, cancel out the Bush Tax Cuts, stop spying on terrorists, and raise the minimum wage? Come on, all those that believe the Democrats won the election, on their principles, raise your hand. What? No Takers???
Now, those that feel the Democrats won the election by saying little about their plan and just bashing Bush and letting the media take care of the rest, raise your hands..... I see a lot of hands out there. I guess we have a majority here (perhaps like the one the Democrats got on the immigration amendment they lost 216 to 214 but changed some votes and said they won) so, since the Democrats didn't win the 2006 election, we could say the Republicans lost it, but I don't think we can pin it on Rove.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
