The networks reported – and enjoyed – former House Speaker John Boehner smearing Sen. Ted Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh.” But they’re not noticing how Sen. Mike Lee fiercely denounced Boehner on the national Mark Levin radio show on Thursday night.
“I’m appalled that John Boehner would do this. I have bit my tongue, I’ve held my tongue for years on John Boehner because I respected him as a person and I respected his office enough to not call him out personally,” Lee said. “The fact that he has done this is appalling and he should be ashamed of himself and I demand that he apologize.”
“More importantly, Mark,” he added, “This is a wakeup call to the American people who are supporting Donald Trump, thinking that he’s the guy who’s going to rail against the establishment—he’s not. He is the establishment. He’s the golfing buddy, the texting buddy, of John Boehner. The same guy who praises Hillary Clinton, who praises Bernie Sanders. So if you’re out there thinking that Donald Trump can somehow be the guy who can take down the establishment, think again because quite the opposite is true."
"I don’t think I’ve ever heard you so angry,” said Levin. “I am livid,” agreed Lee. “He doesn’t know Ted Cruz from Adam. Ted Cruz has probably not spoken more than four or five words to John Boehner in his life, and I’m confident that every one of those words was polite. And yet he goes out and calls him the devil. This is wrong. ”
He insisted of Cruz: “I’ve never seen him raise his voice in anger to a colleague.”
Sen. Lee wasn’t alone. In an April 29 post on Facebook, Rev. Franklin Graham wrote, "Former Speaker of the House John Boehner shame on you! You had no business calling Ted Cruz 'Lucifer in the flesh'—this is an embarrassment. And it’s an embarrassment to our nation."
