Daily Kos Somehow Misses CBS Report In Alleging Pro-Reagan Blackout on 1983 Beirut Terrorist Attack

October 29th, 2013 8:07 AM

Nobody hates Ronald Reagan like the Daily Kos crowd. On Sunday, the blogger known as “waterstreet2013" complained that the networks didn’t devote a solemn segment to the 30th anniversary of a terrorist attack in Beirut that killed 241 Marines. It's "never to be mentioned again" in the allegedly Reagan-favoring "corporate media" because they need to promote the "hoax" that Reagan won the Cold War.

There's just one problem: CBS Evening News did mark the anniversary on Wednesday night, but noted there are presently no Marines at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut:

SCOTT PELLEY: Thirty years ago today, a suicide bomber blew up a truck filled with explosives at a U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. Two hundred and forty-one Marines were killed in the deadliest terror attack on Americans before September 11th. Six months earlier, fifty-two people died when the U.S. embassy in Beirut was bombed. The attack signaled a new kind of war. Our State Department correspondent Margaret Brennan learned something today about security at the Beirut embassy now. Margaret.

MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, Scott, those two bombings led to a security overhaul at U.S. facilities around the world. Yet today many of those security procedures are not in place including at the U.S. embassy in Beirut. The State Department tells CBS that while security there is robust, it doesn`t meet current requirements.

After last year's attack in Benghazi, President Obama asked Congress for four billion dollars in funds for security improvements. And that still hasn't happened. The State Department also asked the Pentagon for a thousand Marine Guards to go to high-threat posts around the world. And while that was granted, we've learned that there aren't enough guards or trainers to prepare them to deploy and there isn't enough room to house them at post. So as a result today on the anniversary of the barracks bombing, there are no Marines standing guard at the U.S. embassy in Beirut.

ABC, NBC, NPR, and PBS NewsHour did not mark the date. That was a historic terrorist attack, but the networks also fail to mark the anniversaries of terrorist attacks like the first World Trade Center bombing, the bombing of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the Khobar Towers bombing, and the U.S.S. Cole attack. To the Kosmonauts, this allows the “hoax” that Reagan won the Cold War when he “never did one substantive thing” to hinder communism:

Between 1980 and today Reagan has gone forward to being perceived as a combo of Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed. The broadest of hoaxes has been created around him. It is a wonder.

The line "Tear down this wall!" is credited with powers like Jehovah parting the Red Sea. Thing is, Reagan never did one thing substantive to bring down Communism. Pope John Paul II was The Man for that work.

You could think from the tales of his hoax that Reagan had won a war -- any war, not Operation Urgent Fury aimed at Grenadian police and a Cuban construction crew -- and belongs up on Mt. Rushmore.

Simple fact: in Lebanon, Reagan surrendered. It was the best way forward, but it was still a surrender. He got into a fix where he had to run away...

And now the American dead from 1983 in Lebanon are dishonored. Forgotten. Put out of the corporate media/GOP approved history of our modern era. Never to be mentioned again.

All of this ignominy is necessary to serve the structured political hoax they've built to glorify Ronald Reagan. Such is today's Republican Party and their allies...

Their allies at the liberal TV networks? Someone doesn't recall how the networks kissed Reagan goodbye with a blecch  and decried a Reagan Decade of Greed.
