O.J. Simpson, a bit of a rambling statement he delivered to the judge. What he said, "In no way did I mean to hurt anything, to steal anything." He went on to say, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to steal anything from anybody, and I don't know -- I didn't know that I was doing anything illegal."
Probably something that Nicole Brown Simpson's family, Ronald Goldman's family would have liked to have heard 13 years ago.
It's true that the Brown family and the Goldman family would have liked Simpson to say "I'm sorry" about the murders, but how on Earth would they have liked to hear him say "I didn't know that I was doing anything illegal?"
This sounds like the old Steve Martin comedy routine on Saturday Night Live, where he suggested a defendant say "I forgot armed robbery was illegal."
CNN and Phillips seemed unprepared for live coverage after the sentencing, with Phillips admitting right away that she didn't know what the minimum jail time for Simpson was after hearing the judge run through the sentences on each count. But after Phillips unloaded her odd sentence about the Browns and the Goldmans and went to commercial, CNN dropped right out of Simpson coverage while Fox News and MSNBC brought on their legal eagles to discuss the breaking news. CNN turned back to covering the rough economy.
