Fonda and DeGeneres Love ‘Amazing,’ ‘Exciting,’ ‘Smart’ Hillary Clinton

May 3rd, 2016 4:33 PM

Liberal celebrities Jane Fonda and Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday strove to offer the most fawning Hillary Clinton praise. Is she “amazing,” “exciting,” or “smart?” All of these things. Appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Fonda cheered, “It's so exciting that she may very well be our president.”

DeGeneres returned this praise by agreeing, “And she's super smart and I think she's amazing.” Fonda marveled, “And she just gets knocked down and she comes back.”

DeGeneres was blown away: “I know. I mean, I can't imagine. I mean, I spoke with her that night and the amount that she's attacked and she's just still strong.”

DeGeneres makes no pretenses about her show being a vehicle for Clinton. In January, she told the Democrat, “You know what a supporter I am.” In September of 2015, she helpfully informed Clinton, “You don’t have to” answer e-mail questions.”

A transcript of the exchange is below:

ELLEN DEGENERES: And it's also —  not just this business, but society in general, it's a very youth-oriented — I mean, everything that you see in magazines, everything you see everywhere is --- And I think that’s, you know, personally with Hillary, I think it's what she's fighting against right now, too. Because she's, you know, not what we're used to seeing in women, in society, right?

JANE FONDA: It's so exciting that she may very well be our president.

DEGENERES: I mean, we could have a woman president! That would be amazing.

FONDA: Oh, my Lord.

DEGENERES: I mean, you’ve been an activist. You've been very vocal with politics and this must be really exciting to actually see that it’s a possibility.

FONDA: It's not just her gender. She will play the woman card. I mean, a man could play the woman card, too. But she will deal with things that other people are not dealing with, like domestic violence, like equal pay. Like this ERA.

DEGENERES: And she's super smart and I think she's amazing. I think she’s —

FONDA And she just gets knocked down and she comes back.

DEGENERES: I know. I can't imagine. I mean, I spoke with her that night and the amount that she's attacked and she's just still strong.

FONDA: Yeah, she’s resilient.

DEGENERES: Yeah. Amazing.
