Surprise: Fusion Network Investigates ‘Super Rich’ Hillary Clinton's Wealth

October 28th, 2015 3:36 PM

In a surprising move, Jorge Ramos’s America program investigated “super rich” Hillary Clinton and her “infamous” denial of being wealthy. In a segment that also looked at how much money the Republican candidates have, Ramos warned, “And as we’ve seen in past elections, candidates are willing to say just about anything to win over voters.”

Reporter Eric Herbst educated viewers, “Let's take a look at some of her royalties. More than $5 million for her book Hard Choices. Two homes both worth millions and more than $10 million for giving speeches. Her total net worth about $32 million.”

Herbst highlighted an “infamous” Clinton claim of poverty

HERBST: How could we forget the infamous dead broke comment?

CLINTON: We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt.

HERBST: Though she later told Fusion she regretted that statement.

Liberal journalists complaining about wealthy Republicans is not new. Highlighting the “super rich” Clintons, however, is rarer.

JORGE RAMOS: The election still may be more than a year away. But as we know, debate season is in full swing. And as we’ve seen in past elections, candidates are willing to say just about anything to win over voters. And this election is no different.

ERIC HERBST: The 2016 presidential candidates. They’re just like you.

CARLY FIORINA: No one of us is any better than anyone of us.

HERBST: Or at least that’s what they want you to think. It’s a common theme we’ve been hearing on the campaign trail, super-rich politicians pretending they are not super rich.

HILLARY CLINTON: No, no, no. Well, look.

HERBST: Republicans outnumber Democrats running for office by three-to-one. And the combined net worth among the GOP contenders is significantly higher than the Dems. The one exception, of course, is Hillary Clinton. But we’ll get to that later.

...

HERBST: And then of course, there’s Hillary.

HILLARY CLINTON: It is wonderful to be here.

HERBST: How could we forget the infamous dead broke comment?

CLINTON: We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt.

HERBST: Though she later told Fusion she regretted that statement.

JORGE RAMOS: Do you regret telling Diane Sawyer that you were once dead broke?

CLINTON: Well, I regret it. It was inartful. It was accurate, but we are so successful and we are blessed by the success we’ve had.

HERBST: Let’s take a look at some of her royalties. More than $5 million for her book Hard Choices. Two homes both worth millions and more than $10 million for giving speeches. Her total net worth about $32 million.
