As NewsBusters has reported for months, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough has a chip on his shoulder concerning Newt Gingrich that has been regularly apparent on Morning Joe.

On Tuesday's program, co-host Mika Brzezinski started an interview with the former Speaker of the House by saying, "I’m so sorry about Joe being so personal in his opinions. So, from the beginning here, he issues you a formal apology" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Mr. Speaker, I think off the top I ought to just say I’m so sorry about Joe…

JOE SCARBOROUGH: What are you talking about?

BRZEZINSKI: …being so personal…

SCARBOROUGH: Oh come on.

BRZEZINSKI: …so personal in his opinions. So, from the beginning here…

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah.

BRZEZINSKI: …he issues you a formal apology.

SCARBOROUGH: Newt, if I’d only followed Mika’s example throughout the campaign I’d be so much better off.

One has to wonder if Brzezinski was being serious or if this entire exchange was tongue-in-cheek.
