On Monday, my colleague Brent Baker reported on the "silly girl talk" that occurred the prior evening when CBS's Katie Couric interviewed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on "60 Minutes."
24 hours later, former CBS reporter Bernie Goldberg was Steve Malzberg's guest on WOR radio, and he not only concurred with Baker's impression of this "60 Minutes" segment, but also called it "seriously embarrassing."
In fact, this was such bad journalism that Goldberg quipped, "If Mike Wallace were dead, he'd be turning over in his grave" (audio available here):
If Mike Wallace were dead, he'd be turning over in his grave. I mean, and thank God he's not dead, I mean, you know, I'm a big fan of Mike's. But, this is, this is, this is embarrassing. I mean, this is really, seriously embarrassing. This is not, what you do, as you say, given the state of her campaign. This is, this is girl talk. And, and you know, I know what that sounds like, and I don't want to offend any women out there. They even know what I'm talking about. This is girl talk. And, we're talking about somebody running for President of the United States, not prom queen. I mean, it's just, it's embarrassing.
