CBS, NBC Highlight Clinton’s Bashing of Trump Following Forum

September 9th, 2016 1:40 AM

Besides taking the time to rail against Gary Johnson for his Aleppo flub, both CBS and NBC took the time to highlight Hillary Clinton railing against Donald Trump the day after the Commander-in-Chief forum. “A battle that started a board an aircraft carrier catapulted into a dogfight today,” hyped anchor Scott Pelley to start off CBS Evening News Thursday, “We learned more about how they intend to fight America's enemies and each other.”

On NBC Nightly News, reporter Andrea Mitchell was as giddy about the verbal attacks as a Clinton fangirl could be. “Hillary Clinton didn't even wait to board her plane this morning to blast Donald Trump for saying Vladimir Putin is a better leader than President Obama,” she proclaimed at the start of her report.

Mitchell seemed to enjoy Clinton’s new line of attack, that ISIS wants Trump elected because it would be good for them. “They are saying, oh, please, Allah, make Trump president of America,” Clinton said to Israeli TV. The NBC reporter gleefully spoke of House Speaker Paul Ryan’s negative reaction to Clinton’s claim, “That had Paul Ryan firing away.”

It was similar on CBS were reporter Nancy Cordes played off of Clinton’s attacks:

HILLARY CLINTON: It's a game to him. Everything is a game.

NANCY CORDES: Clinton argued that's the only explanation for some of Trump's claims last night.

She even touted President Obama’s knocks on Trump from the other side of the globe:

CORDES: President Obama, traveling in Laos, said it shows Trump is unqualified.

BARACK OBAMA: And every time he speaks, that opinion is confirmed.

“Clinton announced today she will be meeting with a bipartisan group of high-profile security experts in New York tomorrow, including David Petraeus, Michael Chertoff, and Janet Napolitano,” Cordes stated at the end of her report, seemingly impressed by Clinton’s schedule.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Hillary Clinton didn't even wait to board her plane this morning to blast Donald Trump for saying Vladimir Putin is a better leader than President Obama.

HILLARY CLINTON: That is not just unpatriotic and insulting to the people of our country as well as to our commander in chief, it is scary.

MITCHELL: And Trump saying he would have left troops in Iraq to seize their oil.

CLINTON: We don't send our brave men and women around the world to steal oil.

MITCHELL: Clinton also explaining this new shot at Trump, saying ISIS was rooting for Trump to win, telling Israeli television –

CLINTON: They are saying, oh, please, Allah, make Trump president of America.

MITCHELL: That had Paul Ryan firing away.

PAUL RYAN: That's fearmongering. That's demagogic scare tactics.

MITCHELL: Clinton today saying she was citing this article from Matt Olsen, former CIA counterterrorism head.

CLINTON: That is a gift for ISIS. And that's what Matt Olsen, who knows more about this than the Republicans trying to somehow muddy the waters, very clearly stated.

MITCHELL: Later in North Carolina, continuing her takedown of Trump.

CLINTON: What would Ronald Reagan say about a Republican nominee who attacks America's generals and heaps praise on Russia's president?

HILLARY CLINTON: It's a game to him. Everything is a game.

NANCY CORDES: Clinton argued that's the only explanation for some of Trump's claims last night.

DONALD TRUMP: The generals have been reduced to rubble.

CORDES: He called military leaders "embarrassing," and claimed the U.S. should have seized Iraq's oil reserved when it had the chance.

MATT LAUER: How were we going to do that?

TRUMP: You would leave a certain group behind and you would take various sections where's they have the oil.

CLINTON: The United States of America does not invade other countries to plunder and pillage. We don't send our brave men and women around the world to steal oil.

CORDES: President Obama, traveling in Laos, said it shows Trump is unqualified.

BARACK OBAMA: And every time he speaks, that opinion is confirmed.

CORDES: Clinton also spoke at last night's forum.

CLINTON: We are not putting ground troops into Iraq ever again.

CORDES: She was criticized by GOP Chair Reince Priebus for not smiling enough while discussing national security. She was asked today if she found the comment sexist.

CLINTON: I don't take anything seriously that comes from the RNC. We were talking about serious issues last night.

CORDES: Clinton did acknowledge in an interview posted on Facebook know that, quote, “I know that I can be perceived as aloof or cold or unemotional. But I had to learn as a young woman to control my emotions." She said it come from being a female law student at a time when that was rare. “That's a hard path to walk,” she said, "You need to protect yourself but at the same time you don't want to seem walled off. And sometimes I think I come across more in the 'walled off' arena."

Clinton announced today she will be meeting with a bipartisan group of high-profile security experts in New York tomorrow, including David Petraeus, Michael Chertoff, and Janet Napolitano. They're going to be discussing terrorism and how to defeat ISIS, and it's safe to predict, Scott, that there won't be a lot of smiling at that meeting, either.
