CNN Panel Touts Bloomberg's 'Take Down' of 'Quack Doctor' Trump

July 27th, 2016 11:27 PM

CNN’s America’s Choice 2016 panel was in awe of the lineup of speakers at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday evening. But most of them fawned over one in particular former New York City Mayor, and billionaire, Michael Bloomberg. “There are very few people other than Michael Bloomberg who could have given this kind of message to independents not in this hall,” gushed Host Anderson Cooper.

Radio host Michael Smerconish spoke in glowing terms of how Bloomberg’s speech resonated well within his community, “That message plays in the Philadelphia suburbs.” He continued by saying, in his opinion, no speech in neither the Republican convention nor the Democratic convention have come close to Bloomberg’s:

Having sat through everything in Cleveland and halfway through here in Philadelphia. That's the first speech that reaching out to someone like me, who is one of the 42 percent in this country who are independent, not Republican and not Democrat.

Cooper told his panel that his mind kept going back to Donald Trump watching Bloomberg, “I kept thinking about Donald Trump watching Mike Bloomberg take him down. Uh, that’s got to hurt.” The gaggle of liberals laughed at the thought as well.

CNN’s Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger fawned over how Bloomberg was in a unique position to attack Trump. “He can take him down on his business acumen and the way he’s run his business,” she stated with a yuge grin, “And when he said, “Trump says he wants to run the nation the way he runs his business” and then he says "God help us."

She was also impressed by how well Democrats matched up Vice President Joe Biden and Bloomberg to play off of each other. “So you got that Middle Class Joe [Joe Biden], and then you had Billionaire Bloomberg. Right,” she said, as she did a little dance in her seat.

And as could be predicted CNN Political Commentator Van Jones dove into the silliness like only he can:

We got a second opinion. Okay? He had a billionaire come and tell the country that everything’s terrible, he can make it better. It turns out he's a quack doctor. The second opinion says Donald Trump is a quack.

MICHAEL SMERCONISH: That message plays in the Philadelphia suburbs. My neighbors, when I'm in a back to school night, when I'm pumping gas, when I'm just interacting with members of the public, they're not all left, they're not all right. For them the issues a mixed bag. They're liberal on some things, usually social issues, conservative on other matter, usually the economic matters. Having sat through everything in Cleveland and halfway through here in Philadelphia. That's the first speech that reaching out to someone like me, who is one of the 42 percent in this country who are independent, not Republican and not Democrat.

COOPER: I also got to think— I kept thinking about Donald Trump watching Mike Bloomberg take him down.

[Laughter]

Uh, that’s got to hurt.

GLORIA BORGER: There's no one else who could have done it in quite that way. First of all, he's another New York billionaire—

VAN JONES: But a big billionaire.

BORGER: --and he's not a Democrat. Okay? And so, he can take him down on his business acumen and the way he’s run his business. And when he said, “Trump says he wants to run the nation the way he runs his business” and then he says "God help us." That has resonance. So you got that Middle Class Joe [Joe Biden], and then you had Billionaire Bloomberg. Right?

JONES: We got a second opinion. Okay? He had a billionaire come and tell the country that everything’s terrible, he can make it better. It turns out he's a quack doctor. The second opinion says Donald Trump is a quack.
