Liberals are putting their loathing of Donald Trump into everything. The Huffington Post featured an article by Sarah Ruiz-Grossman headlined: "Resist Trump With These Mother’s Day Cards For Muslim And Immigrant Moms: And they’re made by queer and transgender artists of color."
With the hashtag #MamasDay, the nonprofit group “Forward Together” distributed 15,000 cards to such women in need. The group includes coalition members like CAIR (the Council for American-Islamic Relations). The cards, which include positive messages as “You are welcome here. Your family is welcome here,” were chosen and submitted online via Forward Together’s website.
Kalpana Krishnamurthy, policy director at Forward Together, wrote:
“Since the start of [the Trump] administration we’ve seen executive orders that target both communities…There are many ways to resist Trump’s policies ― and Forward Together encourages our supporters to contact members of Congress, call the White House, etc,” she went on. “We can also resist by supporting individual Mamas and their families with extra love and support.”
Forward Together has been creating cards since 2011 that balk at the “traditional ideas of family and motherhood." Last year’s recipients included cards for illegal-immigrant mothers in detention centers. How sweet.
American Muslim Empowerment Network executive director Aneelah Afzali told the HuffPost:
“Some community members put handwritten cards of love and support on the cars parked at our mosque during congregational prayers…Even if such acts may seem small, the power and potential of this gesture of love overpowering hate is profound.”
“Help personalize American Muslims for our fellow Americans,” Afzali said. “Help our fellow Americans get to know who American Muslims really are. This is especially important as many Americans have been filled with so much fear and hate that they may not even be willing to get to know a Muslim or visit a mosque.
Leave it to the left-wing Huffington Post to take a day where mothers across America can get some recognition and gratitude, and turn it into just another occasion to denounce American bigotry and closed-mindedness, which they would surely argue includes millions of bigoted mothers.
