HBO's John Oliver Doesn't Mock Iran, Just Americans Fighting Over Iran

John Oliver, host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, used the Iran Deal as his opening segment this past Sunday and ridiculed both Republicans in Congress and the Obama administration. This might seem fair and balanced -- except there's no mockery for Iran for its terrorism and lust for a nuclear bomb.

Oliver wasn’t using his vaunted troops of researchers to investigate whether the Iran Deal was good or bad. He just made fun of Republicans for saying Obama was “bamboozled.”

After showing clips of some Republican senators lamenting the Iran deal, Oliver mentioned a $40 million war chest from the Coalition for a Nuclear-Free Iran, including commercials ripping the Iran deal. After showing a snippet of the ad, Oliver joked:

OLIVER: Oh A better deal?  Why didn’t John Kerry think of that? In fact, why stop there? why not get an EVEN better deal while you're at it. Why not ask for the best deal and ask for $100 and a free hotel bathrobe. That’s how diplomacy works. You ask and they give it to you. That’s my understanding.

After airing the advertisement, Oliver then mocked  the Obama administration for how they were going to “combat” that $40 million war chest – by using a twitter handle called @TheIranDeal.

“That’s right. the administration is fighting back with a twitter account. And to be fair for a day or so it was going well until the Iran Deal got into a feud with Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj."

He mocked this by imagining the Twitter feud that would erupt between Taylor Swift and Nikki Minaj:

OLIVER: Taylor was like, “@TheIranDeal Allows Iran to keep one third of its 19,000 centrifuges.”

And Nikki was like, “ How do we know @TheIranDeal will ensure Iran keeps uranium ore refinement to 5 percent?”

And then the Iran Deal was like “WTF Ladies, I have done nothing but love & support U.”

And then it was on!

The point is. Twitter isn’t the place for this s--t and it’s going to be a long 60 days.”

Seems like the only way the Obama administration tries to combat anything is with the use of Twitter.  Who can forget #BringBackOurGirls?
