CNN's Athena Jones spotlighted the latest pro-gun control headline on the New York Daily News's front page during Wednesday's New Day. Jones, who was following Jeb Bush's campaign, noted that the former Florida governor was "getting some attention for a tweeted photo of a handgun engraved with his name. The caption: 'America.' The New York Daily News having some fun with that picture, with the headline, 'Dolt .45;' and the caption, 'Desperate Jeb Bush gets ripped for tweet suggesting guns are America.'" [video below]
The correspondent pointed out the Republican presidential candidate's gun picture near the end of her reports, which aired at about quarter past the hour of the 6 am, 7 am, and 8 am hours of the morning newscast. Jones also mentioned the Twitter post just after the top of the 9 am hour of CNN Newsroom, but didn't mention the New York Daily News headline: "Meanwhile, Jeb Bush is getting some attention for a Tweeted photo of a handgun that's engraved with his name. The caption to that Tweet: 'America.'"
This isn't the first time that CNN has boosted such a front page from the Daily News. Back in December 2015, three programs on the network promoted the liberal newspaper's controversial "God Isn't Fixing This" headline attacking the Republican presidential candidates who asked for prayers for the victims of the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California.
Natalie Jones of the Wall Street Journal provided additional details about former Governor Bush's gun pic in a Wednesday post: "It was a simple tweet, sent Tuesday after former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush toured a gun-manufacturing plant in Columbia, S.C. He was given a gift of a gun, engraved with his name, and a campaign staffer snapped a picture." The Florida Republican also held a town hall meeting at the plant, which is owned by FN America.
