After Praising Stability, Sanity of 'Morning Joe,' Mika Makes Snarky Comment About Palin

November 1st, 2010 5:51 PM

An hour after the panel on the November 1 edition of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" glorified the show's sanity and stability in the midst of a polarized news media environment, co-host Mika Brzezinski snidely blurted out that Sarah Palin is quite lost on reality in her possible 2012 presidential aspirations.

"There's a thing called Kool-Aid, and if you drink too much of it you become less self-aware. I'm just saying," Mika snarled.

When co-host Joe Scarborough asked whether or not Sarah Palin was running for President in 2012, Mika thought she would, and that "she can't help herself."

Columnist Mike Barnicle disagreed, saying that Palin is "making too much money" and "having too much fun." He added that "she'd be a gift to the White House if she did."

Mika's comments on Palin came after she praised Saturday's "Rally to Restore Sanity" by comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. "I just thought it was really cool," Mika said of the rally. "They had a message that we connect with." The rally satirized fear-mongering and hyper-partisanship in the media and promoted sanity, described by Stewart as "we can have animus and not be enemies."

"Morning Joe," which first aired three years ago on MSNBC, "was ahead of this message" Mika gloated.

"We said 'Hey, let's do something really radical'," Scarborough quipped about when he first pitched the show to MSNBC President Phil Griffin. "'Let's have a show where people who really disagree with each other can come on, have a fun, tough debate, and be friends at the end. And realize that everybody's doing it because they love America and because they want what's best for America'."

A short transcript of the segment, which aired on November 1 at 8:03 a.m. EDT, is as follows:

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Do you think Sarah Palin's moving towards running, as other people who've said on the show this morning?

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Uh – I do. I think she can't help herself.

SCARBOROUGH: Really. Mike Barnicle, what do you think?

MIKE BARNICLE: I don't think she's going to run.

SCARBOROUGH: I don't think so.

BARNICLE: She's making too much money, and she's having too much fun, as Chris Wallace just pointed out. She'd be a gift to the Obama White House if she did.

BRZEZINSKI: There's a thing called Kool-Aid, and if you drink too much of it you become less self-aware. I'm just saying.
