About the last person you'd expect to have a Vulcan mind meld with Donald Trump is Chris Cuomo. But at a time when the focus is Star Wars, Cuomo went Star Trek today, sounding much like Trump in his description of Hillary Clinton. Trump of course made the phrase "low-energy" famous as he repeatedly battered Jeb Bush with it. Recently, Trump took a similar tack with Hillary, saying she lacked the "stamina" to be president, claiming that after brief, staged appearances, she disappears from the campaign trail to "sleep."
On this morning's New Day, there was Cuomo saying that in her recent Des Moines Register interview, Hillary was "very low energy." Cuomo even echoed Trump's notion of Hillary disappearing from the trail, saying she's been "keeping a low profile as much as she can."
Note that Cuomo floated an excuse for Hillary's listless performance, suggesting that despite being aware she was being taped, perhaps she "was dealing with it as a print interview." So it's fine for her to be so soporofic so long as it's not recorded?
For those with the, um, stamina, here's the Des Moines Register's longer video version of Hillary's comments about Trump. Ambien, meet Lunesta.
HILLARY CLINTON: [in clip from Des Moines Register interview] It's not the first time he's demonstrated a penchant for sexism. And so, again, I'm not sure anybody's surprised that he just keeps pushing the envelope.
CHRIS CUOMO: Here's my question, Hillary is talking to the Des Moines register there. I'm assuming she knew it was being taped. But maybe she was dealing with it as a print interview. The reason I bring that up this suggestion is her tone. She's very low energy there. Not to make a Trump point.MAGGIE HABERMAN: Oh, we are coining a phrase. We should do that.
CUOMO: Seriously, she's low energy. She seems to be trying to deal with this but not really deal with it. And that's my question. Do you think she's concerned about doing this too soon with Trump? Because, you know, Hillary's been keeping a low profile in this election as much as she can.
