The polls might currently be suggesting something else, but Mika Brzezinski's view on which Republican has the best shot at beating Hillary Clinton might surprise you.
On today's Morning Joe, Mika said "If you want someone to beat Hillary Clinton, it would be Donald Trump. Because he will do things that none of those candidates will do . . . The Democratic party has a problem if Trump wins the nomination." Mika's comments came after Chuck Todd suggested that for now, Republican voters are looking for "bold colors" [i.e. Trump], but later might become more pragmatic and turn to someone with a better chance of winning.
So who's right: Mika, or polls such as this one that shows Trump doing worse against Hillary than any of the Republican contenders?
CHUCK TODD: This Republican electorate is not into compromising right now. They want bright colors; they're not looking for nuance. And I think Rubio's trying to do nuance because that's the way you would have done it before. And we'll see, maybe the voters when they go into the caucus, when they go into the polling booth in New Hampshire, they'll get a little more pragmatic. Maybe that will matter to them who matches up best against Hillary Clinton. But I don't see it right now. I think they want bold.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Actually Trump. If you want someone to beat Hillary Clinton, it would be Donald Trump. Because he wil do things that none of those candidates will do. I'm not saying it's good, and I'm not saying it's pretty and I'm not saying it's right. But the Democratic party has a problem if Trump wins the nomination.
