Describing the harm done to President Obama by the AP spying scandal, NBC senior investigate correspondent Myers said the effect of the scandal has been to turn "one [sic] of the President's most important constituencies, the press and the left, against him." Did Myers make a double Freudian slip in describing the press and the left as "one" and the press as one of Obama's "most important constituencies"? View the video after the jump.
Ponder the implications of Myers' statement, in which she blithely described the press as an important Obama "constituency" along with his supporters on the left.
Note: as reader rwmofo has pointed out, Myers provided some cover for President Obama herself, saying it was "hard to imagine" that the White House was directly involved in the AP spying scandal, that things were more likely handled within the Justice Department and that if the White House was notified, it was after the facts.
LISA MYERS: Then comes the IRS which offended the right, the middle, and even some Democrats and members of the press. But when they did this [the AP spying], they turned one of the President's most important constituencies, the press and the left against him. So politically, it's hard to imagine--and this is a very calculating White House--it's hard to imagine that they would have green-lighted this kind of thing. I think it's more likely that this was something that was handled within the Justice Department and that if the White House was notified, it was after the fact and not before the action was taken.
