Grecian Formula-Gate? Accusing Romney, Deutsch Says Americans Will Lose Trust In Candidate Who Colors Hair

Don't go there, Donny . . . Donny Deutsch has opened a can of worms—or shall we say, a carton of Clairol.

On Morning Joe today, Deutsch suggested that it looks like Mitt Romney colors his hair, and argued that Americans would lose trust in a candidate who does.  But could Deutsch possibly be unaware of the evidence that his guy Barack Obama has also grabbed the Grecian Formula on occasion?  Video and photo evidence after the jump.

I'll be back with the transcript, but in the meantime have a look at these before-and-after Obama photos from StyleList.  Is it true brunettes have more fun?

Note: Donny was being so ditzy that Scarborough felt obliged to apologize to his guest, the indispensable [as Hugh Hewitt dubbed him] Jim Geraghty, campaign sage at the National Review.

DONNY DEUTSCH: I'm going to shift gears crazily. TJ [producer] as we were playing the images of Mitt Romney, I don't know if anybody's ever asked this.  I'm not being glib here. He's got the white sideburns.  Does he color his hair? And I'm being serious.  And if he does, can we trust the guy?  I'm being serious! Nobody asks that question

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Hold on a second. I've been saying, Willie. I have people ask me every day: why do you have Donny come on the air. You ask the same question, and now those questions are doubled.

DEUTSCH:  Do you want a President of the United States who colors his hair?

SCARBOROUGH: Hey, you know, we're running out of time. Let's go right now to Mike Barnicle.  Ronald Reagan colored his hair for 80 years. It worked out.

A bit later . . .

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: The National Review's Jim Geraghty, it's really good to have you on the show.

SCARBOROUGH: It's great to have you, Jim.

JIM GERAGHTY: I always enjoy you guys.  Thanks for having me on.

SCARBOROUGH: We're sorry that Donny Deutsch sidetracked us on hair color.

DEUTSCH: I'm not--seriously, do Americans want--I think the average American, if they thought a man was coloring his hair, would lose trust in him. I'm being serious.

SCARBOROUGH: Donny, you're playing to type here!
