Twitter Dusts Off July 2015 Abortion Study As 'Top News' for Roe Anniversary

January 22nd, 2016 1:16 PM

Updated (15:57 Eastern): Twitter has a now "top news" story and it's an opinion piece by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards (see bottom of post) | With today being the 43rd anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, #Roe43 is a trending topic on Twitter. When I clicked the hashtag to see the trending-topic page, I noticed that the "top news" item for the category was a study finding 95 percent of women do NOT regret having their abortion.

But clicking the link takes you to a Reuters story that is six months old

Abortion is obviously a heated and divisive topic in general, and particularly for social media. Oh, yeah, perhaps because there's evidence that the millennial generation is actually MORE pro-life than their elders

Update (15:57 Eastern): The "top news" story for the #Roe43 hashtag is now a CNN.com opinion piece by Nancy Pelosi and Cecile Richards headlined "Abortion rights at stake in 2016." Here's the relevant screen capture from Twitter, taken shortly before 4 p.m. Eastern:
