Chris Matthews: ‘The Liberty Bell Rang Forth For...Equal Pay and Marriage Equality’

In a new Lean Forward ad, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews insists that America’s founding represents our “founding principles” which include among others “equal pay and marriage equality.”

Matthews ventured to Philadelphia where he proclaimed “Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. Unalienable rights that can never be taken away, the founding principles of our country, never to be amended. No, it was the country that would need to be amended.” [See video below.]

The MSNBC host then listed several important rights that this country fought for before throwing in some of his network’s liberal issues: “Through strong argument and civil war and long campaigns for civil and voting rights, for women’s suffrage, for equal pay and marriage equality. Those founding principles resonate as loudly today as when the liberty bell rang forth in 1776.”

Matthews is no stranger to using our nation’s founding to push for liberal causes such as in a May Lean Forward ad when he declared that the American Revolution was an example of how “Liberalism always wins.”

A transcript of the new Lean Forward ad is below:
