On Wednesday afternoon, CNN announced that it has fired far-left lewd comedienne Kathy Griffin from her long-running New Year’s Eve show after Griffin took a page from ISIS’s playbook 24 hours earlier by holding up a bloodied (but fake) severed head pretending to be President Trump.
“CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year's Eve program,” CNN’s Communications team wrote in a tweet just after 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
Her firing comes after a day of near-uniform outrage, with those condemning Griffin ranging from Mitt Romney to Eric Bolling to Chelsea Clinton. Further, TMZ reported that Trump’s 11-year-old son Barron thought the photo was real and that his father had indeed been beheaded.
First Lady Melania Trump released a statement on Wednesday morning that even called into question Griffin’s mental state:
As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing. When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it.
As the MRC’s Nick Fondacaro reported late Tuesday, CNN released a statement condemning Griffin and the ugly photo while Griffin’s New Year’s Eve co-host Anderson Cooper tweeted his disapproval as well. The pair had hosted the network’s countdown to the new year since 2007.
In the end, decency prevailed. Whether the left allows this again as acceptable discourse in the future will be worth watching.
