After airing an hour of coverage following the last Saturday night Democratic presidential debate on November 14, MSNBC skipped out on airing any post-debate analysis after Saturday’s third Democratic debate on ABC and instead played yet another episode of its weekend jail series Lockup.
Following on short news breaks at the top of the 10:00 p.m. Eastern hour and at the bottom of the hour at 10:30 p.m. Eastern by newsreader Shannon Mulaire, the network returned to an episode of Lockup Sacramento, CA: Extended Stay.
When that concluded at 11:00 p.m. Eastern, there was no news break from Mulaire or anyone at MSNBC, but instead immediately went to an episode of Lockup Charleston, SC: Extended Stay. At the 11:32 p.m. Eastern mark, newsreader Todd Piro had a 33-second news break summarizing the debate’s proceedings.
In contrast, CNN began it’s post-debate analysis at 10:30 p.m. Eastern with Situation Room anchor Wolf Blitzer and a massive panel of David Axelrod, Dana Bash, Paul Begala, Peter Beinart, S.E. Cupp, Pattie Solis-Doyle, Nia-Malika Henderson, and Jeff Zeleny that ran until midnight Eastern.
On the Fox News Channel (FNC), chief legal correspondent Shannon Bream led FNC for an hour of coverage starting at 11:00 p.m. Eastern with panelists U.S. News and World Report’s David Cantanese, Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis, FNC national security analyst K.T. McFarland, and FNC contributor Juan Williams in partnership with interviews of Martin O’Malley, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and RNC Communications Director Sean Spicer.
Additionally, FNC featured taped reports from correspondent Doug McKelway on where GOP candidates stand on foreign policy while chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge analyzed how Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, and Bernie Sanders did on foreign policy. Near the end of the hour-long coverage, Bream turned to FNC political analysts Ed Rollins and Joe Trippi for a fair and balanced discussion of the debate.
