Appearing as a guest on Thursday's The Daily Show on Comedy Central, liberal comedian Chelsea Handler slammed women who refused to vote for Hillary Clinton as she declared that "there's something wrong with you," and cracked that women need to "get rid of" their husbands because they are "listening to their husbands too much." She also complained that women should have supported Clinton "whether you f****** like her or not."
Handler's rant came after host Trevor Noah asked her about what it felt like on the day after the election when she ended up crying on her show about Trump winning. After recalling the day, she then launched into women who refused to vote for Clinton. The liberal comedian began: "And I think that there is a problem in this country not with just men and women, I think there's a problem with women and women. And we need to f****** address it."
After she and Noah bantered over whether the percentage of white women who voted for Trump was 48 percent or 53 percent, Handler continued: "Then we have a real problem. I understand if you don't like Hillary. I get that. I totally get it. But forget about if you like her or not. Look at what she's done. Then, you need to get behind that woman, whether you f****** like her or not."
After deriding Trump, she added: "And if women are doing that, then we have a problem with women, A, listening to their husbands too much, so get rid of them."
After insisting that she was not arguing that women should have voted for Clinton simply for being a woman, she added:
When the woman that is in play is that ...The most qualified, has all these years of dedicating her life to women and children. If -- there's something wrong with you if you don't think, "Oh, this is time for us to shatter this so we can move on and in 20 years then you can get the f****** woman you want in there."
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Thursday, December 1, The Daily Show on Comedy Central:
CHELSEA HANDLER: And I think that there is a problem in this country not with just men and women, I think there's a problem with women and women. And we need to f****** address it.
TREVOR NOAH: In what way?
HANDLER: I don't think women support women when forty -- I don't know what the percentage is -- is it 48?
NOAH: I think it was 53 percent of white women voted for Trump.
HANDLER: Like I said, 48 -- 53 percent of white, educated women -- college graduated, college graduates, whatever, anyway. White women vote for that man.
NOAH: Yes.
HANDLER: Then we have a real problem. I understand if you don't like Hillary. I get that. I totally get it. But forget about if you like her or not. Look at what she's done. Then, you need to get behind that woman, whether you f****** like her or not. You get behind somebody who's done the job versus some guy who's a self, who, I mean, I can't even discuss him in real terms. He's not a real person. He takes advantage of everyone around him.
And if women are doing that, then we have a problem with women, A, listening to their husbands too much, so get rid of them. [AUDIENCE LAUGHTER] And, B, you have to, I'm not talking about supporting women for the sake of being a woman. That's not what I'm saying.
NOAH: Yes, which is a conversation that's come up, but I hear you.
HANDLER: Of course not. You can't just say, "Oh, you're a woman, come over here." No. But when the woman-
NOAH: Especially in that tone. That's like a- (AUDIENCE LAUGHTER]
HANDLER :When the woman that is in play is that-
NOAH: And the most qualified.
HANDLER: The most qualified, has all these years of dedicating her life to women and children. If -- there's something wrong with you if you don't think, "Oh, this is time for us to shatter this so we can move on and in 20 years then you can get the f****** woman you want in there."
