Liberal MSNBC host Joy Reid has been in meltdown mode since the news of Donald Trump's victory over Hillary Clinton, as evidenced by some of her over the top tweets from the past couple of days as she has tried to link Trump and even his supporters to neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan. On Thursday, reacting to news that the Trump campaign's Steve Bannon would work in the White House, Reid snarked that the move amounted to "bringing neonazism in from the cold and giving it West Wing power."
And Wednesday, in a tweet responding to someone else who tweeted that, although Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, "that really doesn't matter when about half the country votes KKK," Reid not only retweeted it but voiced agreement: "Exactly. The fact that there are that many people who are at minimum, comfortable voting with David Duke and the alt-right is enough for me."
Notably, on her AM Joy show last Saturday, Reid seemed to worry slightly about the possibility that white men would turn out in large numbers and deprive Hillary Clinton of a victory, as MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell seemed to be invoking Nazi Germany in asserting that people alive today, "for the rest of your life, you will be asked what you did when Donald Trump rose. What did you do?" and declared that the election was a "pass-fail intelligence test." Reid fretted:
Donald Trump's hopes hinge on, quite frankly, white men coming out in record numbers and, even if they're Democrats, voting for a white guy for whatever reason, for a mix of reasons. Are there enough white male voters who want what Donald Trump is selling to put him in the White House, do you think?
O'Donnell assured her it "statistically isn't possible."
The MSNBC host's Twitter rantings began Tuesday night after the election results started turning in Trump's favor. Early on, she called it "sick" and "sad." Reid: "Already home, and thankfully, didn't have to explain it to my kids. They're older, so they already understand the sick, sad reality."
A bit later came her retweet of someone linking Republican voters to supporting the KKK. Twitter user @BitchyBuddhist had tweeted: "Actually, I think HRC won the popular vote. But that really doesn't matter when about half the country votes KKK."
Then came Reid's response: "Exactly. The fact that there are that many people who are at minimum, comfortable voting with David Duke and the alt-right is enough for me."
The next day, the MSNBC host tweeted a link to her latest column in the Daily Beast titled, "Wake the Children? And Tell Them What?" On the second line of the article, she asserted that, because Trump was elected President, America "hates" her children: "My children overslept, but their father and I decided to let them sleep. How to send them out into a country that hates them?"
A bit later, after some of the anti-Trump protests began, the MSNBC host retweeted without comment an image of a profane sign denouncing the Republican President-elect with the words: "F*** THAT CLIMATE CHANGE DENYING FASCIST"
Previewing the scheduled meeting between Trump and President Barack Obama at the White House, Reid made another KKK reference: "First black president to meet with birther endorsed by the KKK. This is surreal."
And later on Thursday, she brought up "neonazism" in reacting to news that Bannon would work at the White House: "The ultimate mainstreaming of the alt-right: bringing neonazism in from the cold and giving it West Wing power."
Also of note, Reid did her part to spread misinformation by retweeting a debunked claim that, in California, a proposition was passed that re-categorizes rape as a "nonviolent" crime. But liberal MSNBC hosts are not known for being reliable sources of information anyway.
