On Wednesday's Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield on CNN, after host Banfield suggested that it might be a disadvantage for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump to choose Newt Gingrich as his running mate because "He's not a woman, and he's not black or a minority," far-left CNN political commentator Marc Lamont Hill jumped in to crack that "He's perfect! He's perfect for Republicans," inspiring laughter from a nearly all-liberal panel.
Left-leaning CNN host Banfield was joined by a conservative-free panel consisting of one liberal, one far-left liberal and one socially liberal moderate Republican for a discussion of the aftermath of Tuesday's Indiana primaries.
At 12:32 p.m. ET, during a discussion of Trump's suggestion that he will select a Washington insider as his running mate, liberal CNN political commentator Peter Beinart talked up the possibility of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Beinart: "I would watch Newt Gingrich. Newt Gingrich has been cheerleading for Donald Trump a great deal recently. He is a Washington insider. He does know a lot about policy. He can speak for hours and hours-"
Banfield injected: "He's not a woman, and he's not black or a minority."
Then Hill jumped in to exclaim: "He's perfect! He's perfect for Republicans -- check, check, check!"
All laughed as Banfield light-heartedly admonished, "Marc!"
Earlier in the morning during an appearance on CNN's New Day, Hill gave a glimpse into how far left his views are as he declared that he plans to vote for the Green Parry: "I'm voting Green Party because I can't vote Hillary and I can't vote Donald Trump, and I actually support the Green Party's agenda."
