NB Publisher Bozell Calls on Congress to Investigate Comcast and NBC

By NB Staff | April 10, 2012 | 08:29

A  A

NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center (MRC) founder Brent Bozell announced earlier this morning that the MRC is calling upon Congress to investigate Comcast / NBC News for the intentional editing of the George Zimmerman audio that was broadcast multiple times and subsequently flamed the fires of racial hatred and animosity

“NBC is laughing at the public. Last week we said we would have more to say if their behavior in this matter didn’t change.  Given their continued irresponsibility, today we open up a new front," Bozell noted in a press release available here.

In the MRC press release, Bozell reviewed the relevant facts and then concluded that the network is in "complete violation of the public trust."

NBC's parent company Comcast "is in the midst of a business deal with Verizon requiring approval by the Federal Communications Commission and the United States Department of Justice; the public policy issues related to the approval of this deal are so critical that the United States Senate held hearings on the matter," the MRC president added:

Some organizations and elected officials have raised anti-trust concerns.  We are now joining them.

Today we are contacting appropriate committees in Congress asking them to investigate Comcast / NBC’s public deception in view of the proposed Comcast / Verizon business deal; and Comcast’s duty to the public trust given one of their premier properties – NBC – has advanced this deception and arrogantly refuses to apologize to its own broadcast viewers.

Time for "news justice"

Submitted by Chandran on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 11:44am.

I like what Cappmann1962 says. See "I dont know about antitrust" below

If NBC could be criminally prosecuted / sued by people who got hurt due to the intentional inciting of criminal racial unrest using their broadcasting & talk show hosts. And like in every lefty lawsuit, if hoardes of people feign injury, NBC would settle quick.
Yes, leave the govt. out.

Actually,

Submitted by texastommy on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 9:32am.

I think Brent is wrong. Congress doesn't regulate NBC, so what it does is none of their business. Just like I don't think Congress has any business worrying about which stupid ball player is using drugs, or if Mickey D's should have toys for kids in the Happy Meals.

Brent, you're doing a hell of a good job already with the media, why ask for Congress to screw it up. Do you want Pelosi investigating Rush for years on end if they get the HOR back?

I disagree with your point(s)

Submitted by needle on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 9:54am.

In the first place Rush is on the air primarily to express opinion, not present news to the public; so let’s leave Rush out of this.

But the main issue here is that NBC used its privileged access to public – and (at least theoretically) publicly regulated – airwaves to deliberately present a horribly libelous lie, as news, in the service of whipping racial passions.

As for is this Congresses business? Yes, it is. The FCC was created by Congress to control matters far more benign than this, and to put it mildly the FCC is not doing its job. In fact, it is incumbent upon Congress to step in and take action when its creature has run off the rails.

You miss the point

Submitted by texastommy on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 12:03pm.

Fine. Then investigate the FCC for not doing it's job.

But as far as Rush goes, don't you think Pelosi would LOVE to investigate him and everything he says? Crack mopen the door with NBC and we just might see a move to do just that. Commentator or not. And think about it, NBC was clearly wrong in this case and intended to portray an event with a certain agenda, but what if the editing had been done by Fox, and was far less problematic. Would the Demos care? Hell no, they'd be on Fox like a duck on a June bug if investigating journalists became accepted practice. Look at the 'War on Women' fiasco they've conjured up out of nuttin. Be careful what you wish for.

As far as I'm concerned, the gubmint needs to stay the hell out of most everything.

Submitted by Lipton on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 9:37am.

therefore you don"t know anything meme, I will respond with an equally without thought that the author or speaker must get their news from the con artists at NBC. NBC is the now what everyoone has accused Fox of being and I am going to drive that home to as many people as I can.

I'd like to thank Hollywood for renewing my interest in reading.

“NBC is the now what everyone has accused Fox of being”

People weaned on MSM bias for their whole life thought that FOX was biased, and accused it of being so. Study after study has shown that the reverse is true.

What NBC did with their racist edit

Submitted by Blonde on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 10:00am.

...is akin to yelling "FIRE!!!" in a crowded theatre.

You're exactly right, they fanned the flames, on purpose. There have been several incidents of beatings by gangs "for Trayvon". Zimmerman is living in fear of being lynched right now by the Black Panthers, and the court of public opinion has been set in stone, much of it due to NBC's "little oops".

Congress won't do a thing, though. Race relations is a can of worms they fear more than the budget. Because as we know, any criticism of "The Won" is racist.

Homerun

Submitted by retrocon on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 12:01pm.

Blonde, your comparison to yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre is a real homerun.

By editing the tape in a way that made it sound blatantly racist, they did effectively yell "fire," and are creating a mob panic reaction.

If anything happens to the Z'man family, i hope they sue and end up owning NBC.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but Zimmerman's family has written a letter to the DOJ asking why they are ignoring the threats the NBP is making. Good for the Zimmerman's.

The best revenge is

Submitted by ohio granny on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 9:51am.

The best revenge would be for Comcast customers to cancel cable and internet services and for others to refuse to watch anything on NBC, MSNBC or CNBC.

Fire off an e-mail telling them exactly why they are losing subscribers and viewers. I refuse to watch anything but local news on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and have not done so for years. I refuse to patronize companies I disagree with as much as I do the so-called MSM.

The only thing that may make them change will be when the toll on their bottom line starts to hurt enough.

Go After Their Licenses

When each NBC station/affiliate is re-applying for their FCC broadcast license, we need to show up with this as Exhibit A for why that station should lose their broadcast license.

I don't know about anti-trust

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 04/11/2012 - 11:10am.

But I think they could be hammered for inciting racial violence. Anyone who would think editing a sound bite so as to appear to show blatant racism, followed by the shooting of the black "victim" wouldn't stir the race pot, ESPECIALLY after Jackson and Sharpton, along with the SERIOUSLY racist NBPP on scene, is, if nothing else, guilty of criminal negligence and responsible for any assaults, deaths, or property damage caused by their actions. There have already been several attacks on white people associated with this case, and NBC is at least partially responsible and should be held accountable. Let the consumers do the rest. If NBC was criminally prosecuted for intentionally inciting criminal racial unrest and sued by innocent victims of their actions, they would be essentially done as a news organization. Getting congress involved, especially THIS congress, would be counter-productive and excessively expensive with little or no tangible result.

Congress~forget about it!

Submitted by GG_NB on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 11:18am.

Unfortunately, Congress won't do anything. It makes me sad to type that. But I think that is the problem with how many of us are feeling right now (am I right?) -- that we just don't believe we have many real fighters for the cause of justice and freedom. It doesn't seem we have many unselfish elected officials (with a long-term sense of the importance of -- yes -- saving our country).

Who is looking out for the majority views/convictions/calls for fairness/desperate calls for help on not just this particular front but on so many issues affecting our beloved country? Too many "reps" seem only to care about keeping their jobs. Where are our heroes?? Where are those special people willing to sacrifice themselves for what is best for our country??

Once again, it is up to the American public to take note. In general, I hope Americans are paying attention and taking to mind and heart all the hypocrisy/manipulations/distortions coming not only from the liberal media but also the politicians/Administration (already in campaign mode).

Congress? Sorry, not much faith in that saving us. IT IS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC who must wisely, reflectively be taking note of what's going on in our country -- the stakes involved -- and how it will impact the future. It's huge.

And if Americans are not aware and engaged, I'm seriously scared of another November vote cast in darkness.

If that happens again, God help us all. There are only so many wake-up calls. Americans can't afford to sleep through this next one.

"If not us, who? If not now, when?"

I guess I look at this from a little different perspective.

Submitted by dyardley on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 11:39am.

Whether Congress does anything or not, one thing is now clear...The media dynasty has just been put on notice by the American people. They have smeared, lied, misrepresented, profaned, mocked and just about ever other description there is. Have they suffered or been punished? No. They've become a law unto themselves and so out of touch with the people that they can actually be surprised that there might be a problem with the constitutionality of Obamacare. As Blonde said above they have essentially yelled 'fire' in a crowded room and inflamed probably the most dividing issue in our nation.....racism, perceived or real. Whether we like it or not they directly influence a large portion of our society.

Many times I see on this site that somebody really needs to do something, boycott, call, write letters, etc. Well guess what MRC just did exactly what needed to be done. My hat is off to Brent and we all now need to keep the momentum going. I've already 'shared' the press release with everyone I know. If absolutely nothing else happens with this methinks the other networks may just do a little more thinking before they present 'untrue' slants on issues. Are you listening CNN, ABC, CBS?

~ Way to go MRC!!

Remember NBC Dateline doing the safety of chevy trucks, and rigging them to blow with explosives to show they blew up in real life if t boned? they apologized, payed gmc and unknown sum, and kept rolling out the crap, all new is now is being the news, not stories, the national guard lies about bush, this bs, and pretty much anything the networks spew reminds me of what i used to change when my daughter was young, stinky and full of crap.

White Race Baiters Are White Race Traitors

Submitted by HardRightTurn on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 12:08pm.

Yelling 'racist' should be unallowed free speech just as yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater is.

White people should not accuse other white people of racism at all, ever. Black people should not allow white people to use them for their own political gain.

White House is NBC/MSNBC/CBS/ABC/CNN

Submitted by Less1leg on Tue, 04/10/2012 - 3:10pm.

It wasn't all that long ago the Obama Press Agent said that they, meaning the WH was the news. If this is in fact true, then the WH, and NBC in consort organized an event that went terribly wrong.
Why? haste to Press.
The WH has had a miserable month or so of Press releases and the community of voters. They meaning WH, needed something to bolster the Obama Re-election Team. So they used what was suppose to be a "White On Black" crime. NBC's part was to photo edit the video feeds. Remove any identifiable marks, blur any picture, make the youthful Black so-called victim, very young and very much Caucasian. So NBC photo edited Trayvon Martin to be what, twelve years old, and changed his complexion to a pale version of himself. Then, nobody in the liberal team checked Mr.Zimmerman. Who the heck in the Hispanic community has a freaking last name Zimmerman, who? Dang, why the heck did this guy have to be hispanic, AND a community worker who taught reading lessons to Blacks. Dang again.
So the Re-Election team needed a mook. So the NBC Producer was the Mook to fire.
