MRC's Bozell on 'Hannity': Media Must 'Call Out' Obama's 'Systematic Dishonesty' on Gas Prices
Appearing on the February 23 Hannity on Fox News for the weekly Media Mash segment, Media Research Center president Brent Bozell exposed the media attempts to downplay high gas prices and refusal to hold President Obama accountable for the rising energy costs.
"Why is it, Brent, do you think the media is not so interested" in noting skyrocketing gas prices under President Obama's watch, substitute host Liz Cheney asked [video embedded below page break].
Bozell answered by noting that:
...in 2008, you had 5 percent unemployment. Today you have 9 percent unemployment, so $3.56 was a bigger problem today than it was in 2008.... The media don't want to report anything that goes against the narrative of reelecting Barack Obama. This is a huge story that is affecting everybody out there, and yet suddenly it's not a story.
Cheney added that high prices are likely to only go up, perhaps to $6 or $7-a-gallon.
Bozell added that high gas prices under Bush occurred in the spring, towards "peak season," whereas the high prices right now are in the dead of winter, when gas prices are typically lower.
"At what point does this become a national news story?" Bozell asked, wondering when the media will "call this man out" on his and his administration's "systematic dishonesty" about their role in the high gas prices.
Bozell also appeared earlier last evening on Your World w/Neil Cavuto to discuss MRC Business & Media Institute study about the double standard in gas price reporting.

While I agree with Cheney's assessment that the outlook may be even worse, that we could look at $6-$7 a gallon, isn't this the sort of speculation that has been villified that we don't need that could further drive up the price of oil?
Anyone that believes that

Anyone that believes that speculation and speculators drive the price of oil, is obviously ignorant of the way things work. Buying futures in oil is not what drives the price of oil. If you buy contracts at 108.00 for the month of June, and June comes in and oil is 98.00, how do you make money on that? Speculation is not the cause of oil price rise. Never has been. Those that think that really need to educate them selves in the markets. The whole speculation argument is nothing more than slight of hand from the administration. Its a lie.

Here's what I believe. Summer is approaching. Gas prices ALWAYS go up in summer..cause that's when people travel more. It's like a law of nature. I don't care why or who is to blame. I just think someone knows how to read a calendar and know how to take advantage of it.
Except right now it's Winter

Not Spring. Not Summer, it's Winter.
Prices will get much worse this Spring.

It's winter? Can't tell by looking out my window. But what do I know :)
What DO you know?

You obviously don't know enough to look at a calendar. Try it sometime. You can find them online and some of them can tell you when the seasons are.
That ought to help.

mandrake, This goes way

mandrake,
This goes way beyond any seasonal adjustment. Gas goes up in the spring and summer because refineries shut down for over hauls. Just like clock work, ever spring the refineries have to shut down and repair and replace pipe, tanks, air handlers, venting and reactors. The stuff only lasts a few years under the pressures and heat required to make fuel, and there are always sections that must be replaced. That is the largest cause of seasonal spikes in fuel prices.

Okay, fair enough, but I think I remember that there was an article here in which one was chastised for speculating that oil could reach $200/barrel, and trying to fuel the futures...? Maybe I'm wrong, Don't have time to find the link though.
Wait, scratch that. I

Oil is going up simply
Submitted by bassndude on Fri, 02/24/2012 - 5:13pm.
Oil is going up simply because of uncertainty in the market and an unstable dollar. All oil is traded, bought and sold in dollars. If you were paying attention to the "quantive easing" numbers one and two, you would see a direct correlation to the increase in fuel, food and other prices. Prices are going up because of Obama's energy polices. And the Fed printing money like there is no tomorrow.
There is no mystery here. It's all Obama and his administration. Simple as that.

Out of touch

The msm is so out of touch with the real world, they don't have any idea of the pain people are feeling. This is #1 topic at work day in day out. Price of food is getting a lot of attention also.
since most of the MSM

Since most of the MSM chose to not educate themselves (skipping ECON101 for example, or taking a completely mutated version of it by Marxist agenda professors), all they do is swallow "their guy" 's version of the issue of oil/gas prices which is not based in reality, then regurgitate it for public consumption. A sad and vicious cycle.
I will give

the same amusing information I gave at another thread on gas prices yesterday. The obama administrations cult members are going out of their way in comments to absolve obama of any responsibility for rising gas prices. "The president has no influence on gas prices...blah, blah, blah, etc." However, just go to one of the far left websites, as I did with democratic underground, use their search function and type in President Bush and high gas prices, or any variation of that. When I did up popped results from '05, '06, and '07 in which nearly all the comments were laying the blame for rising gas prices squarely on Bush. What a difference a "D" makes. LoL.

Liz Cheney acted like she was drugged on last nights show. And to let that female idiot get away with saying that nobama had raised oil production in the panel segment was beyond the pale. If conservative show hosts are to viable they HAVE to start calling out gross misstatements.
Lies the Greenies tell us
Submitted by Russian55 on Fri, 02/24/2012 - 1:26pm.
The so-called "Green advocates" want us to believe oil companies want the US to remain forever hooked on foreign oil.
The fact is, the oil companies would love to develop a fuel they could make from something else, where they would have more control over prices and costs. Despite the prices of it., oil company profits -- over the long run -- remain at about 10% net. The amount varies, but the profit margin tends to remain the same.
So if they could come up with a means of providing energy at a 15% or 20% profit, they would take it, After all, they are in it for the money, not the source.

IIRC...In 2008 the barrel of oil was running about 147 bucks.
The national price was 3.56 a gallon...
In 2012 a barrel of oil is 108.
The national price is 3.56 a gallon.
Yummy taxes.... and passing all that on to the fuel user...

Last night (February 23) on "Special Report" on Fox gas prices were discussed during the panel segment. The panelist representing the left (I forget his name) repeated the current mantra that "the president really has no control over gas prices." I thought for a moment Brett Baier and the others were going to let him get away with that.
But a minute or so later Brett reminded him about all the blame laid at the feet of Bush during periods of gas price run-ups and asked if it wasn't fair to blame the president now. Incredibly (not really) the guy said something like "Well, I don't recall the coverage from then as vividly as you do."
Yeah, right.
Tried to find video of the exchange but can't locate anything.
