NB Publisher Bozell Slams Media Taking 'Fire People' Comment Out of Context
"Using common sense," a skeptical news consumer can see right through the liberal media ripping Mitt Romney's "fire people" comment out of context, NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News's Neil Cavuto on the January 10 "Your World."
"What you conclude is, here we go again, what did he really say?" Bozell added, noting that Romney was talking about the need to open up "competition in the [health insurance] market." [video posted below page break; MP3 audio here]
Not only are the liberal media to blame, Romney's Republican primary opponents should be castigated for unfairly using the quote out of context to score cheap political points. "It's an absolute, dishonest cheap shot," the Media Research Center president complained.
"I just think there's a much more of a gotcha mentality with going after Republican candidates than there is Democrats" among the major media outlets, Cavuto offered, to which Bozell heartily agreed.
"You've got countless gotcha opportunities with Obama and Biden! Joe Biden gives you a gotcha every single day if you wanted to go in that direction, but they don't," Bozell noted, because the media "understand that sometimes you word things incorrectly, you could word things more artfully," so they give liberal politicians "a pass every time."

Personally, I'd like to hear from Newt about how "fair" it is that he picked up $1.6million from Freddie/Fannie while they were running the housing market into the ground and destroying the lives of millions. If they were taking Newt's advice, then he's responsible for a heck of a lot more working-class destruction than any other candidate outside Obysmal.
I'm not happy with Newt. He'll never be the Reagan Republican he keeps trying to sell himself to be.

Newt Gingrich claims about Freddie Mac
Submitted by Kingfish17 on Tue, 01/10/2012 - 10:08pm.
The last I heard from Gingrich is that he claims to only have personally received around $35,000 from Freddie Mac, over several years. He claims that a consulting firm got the bulk of the money. We'll never probably find out the actual money trail because no one will ever care enough to spend tens of thousands of dollars and hire a forensic accounting team to track the money. And Gingrich would cooperate anyways.
I heard some good things regarding Gingrich and TARP today on Limbaugh's show. As early as October 1st of 2008, Gingrich had the right call when he said that TARP should be repealed immediately and the new mark-to-market accounting rules that were destroying the brokerage firms should be suspended while lawmakers fixed the legislation that led to the Lehman fiasco and subsequent financial firms melt-down. But that would have taken approx. $800 billion out of the hands of politicians and that just wasn't going to happen.
My problem with Gingrich is that no matter how many good ideas he has, he always seems to have his blow up moments where he does or says something incredibly stupid and totally abhorant to the tenants of conservatism, as you so aptly point out.

I can't stand Newt going

I can't stand Newt going after Romney from the left. It makes me sick. He should go after "Obamneycare" or ask him about his willingness to work with democrats. That's what scares me about Romney. When the heat is on him he will forsake the base and give democrats what they want. I want to believe Romney, I really do but he just seems to go where the political wind blows. I think Gingrich would torch Obama in debate and would stick it to the democrats and the liberal media at the same time. He showed us what he could do (remember 1994)

in Newt. Every time he does something good from the conservative perspective, he offsets it by doing something boneheaded, like the Pelosi ad. Then he explains himself later by saying something like, "it was stupid". Well, yes, it was stupid, but that's not an excuse. I'd much rather he stop doing the stupid things in the first place. "It was stupid" ain't gonna fix the economy.

I hear ya, the pelosi ad was indefensible. What else could he say? And I agree saying "it was stupid" ain't going to fix the economy but then again neither is saying "I'm going to work with democrats". We both know that ain't going to fix the economy.
And as result the MSM can spin that to their advantage "voters turn out for the candidate who will work with democrats". "voters say they want compromise!". The more things change the more they stay the same.

Megyn Kelly came to the interview prepared. She revealed RINO Gingrich's hypocrisy in criticizing Romney's record at Bain Capital by asking him at the 6:24 mark about his (Gingrich) own ties to a similar firm Forstmann Little .

close associations with Pelosi, Al Sharpton, and other Leftist. Gingrich, like RINO McCain, appeared too comfortable and friendly around Democrats, especially extreme Leftist nuts like Pelosi and Sharpton. It appears that even today, Gingrich hasn't changed.
Although I would much prefer a more true conservative candidate, we are going to have to make do with our current candidates. As I posted previously, I believe Mitt Romney is the best candidate among the current crop who is acceptable to independents and disillusioned Democrats and can beat Obama. We will just have to encourage and push him more to the right, when it's necessary.

Not a big Romney fan, but this is such a ridiculous accusation. It should be the definition of taking a statement out of context.
If Romney wins nomination, I'll hold my nose and pull the lever for him. I know we are going to have to pull him to the right, but I'll be glad when we move from the not Romney discussion to the not Obama referendum!
Let's keep our focus on Obama! He is sweating now! I love it!

BUT Newt spends too much time trying to outsmart the D's, and not enough on core.

I think Newt's saying here that Mitt was using Bain to pick winners and losers, but beyond that, he was *deciding* who would win or lose by how they leveraged/de-leveraged them, which what Pres. Obama has been doing with out tax dollars, so to Newt, Mitt=Obama in Big gov't style "takings"

Are you saying it's wrong for someone in the private sector to try to pick a winners and losers? Are you saying Newt Gingrich said that? Are you saying that Gingrich is equating the private sector incorrectly with the public sector? I'm not sure of your point here.

Me? HELL NO!!! That's the *whole* point, right? It's how we got from typewriters to computers - private sector backing who *they* thought would be the winners!!!
Newt was on with Megyn and he kept talking about the difference between the free market and what he accused Mitt of - and *if* I understood his point, he was saying Mitt wasn't focusing on private sector backing who they thought would be winners, but how much $$$ they could loot from a company, in the guise of trying to help them.
Do I think he's right? No. BUT - our gov't IS trying to perform this function with "green" energy.
