Open Thread: How Will Media Cover Eric Holder and Fast and Furious?

In early May of this year, Attorney General Eric Holder told Rep. Darrell Issa's House committee that he was "not sure of the exact date" he learned of Fast and Furious, but that he "probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.

Now, CBS News has obtained documents showing that Holder was sent briefings on the controversial operation as early as July 2010, nearly a year before he claimed to Congress to have known about the gunwalking program. While the Justice Department claims that "Holder misunderstood that question from the committee – he did know about Fast and Furious – just not the details," the video of the May 4 committee meeting suggests otherwise.

CBS was 'leaked' this information to circumvent Issa's committee. 

As for further coverage, there will be none.  They have already covered as much of it as they want to.

Look for a surprised report when Holder resigns and a tribute to all of the wonderful things Holder accomplished in office.

The MSM will take all the Democratic talking points and accept them as fact.  The Justice Department told CBS News that the officials in those emails were talking about a different case started before Eric Holder became Attorney General.  So, the media will begin with their usual talking point of blame Bush.  They'll see how far that will go.  Then they will go with this.  Here’s Fox’s segment on the new docs. The key bit is at the end, where they say a former DOJ official familiar with Holder’s operation told them he receives dozens of memos a week and doesn’t always read them.  Then they will pray it will go away.

The problem is as each day passes, the bigger the problem becomes.  Now that both ABC and CBS has addressed it, if they don't follow up, people will go to Fox or other outlets that cover it.  And the Democrats will see their Hispanic voters disappear as they cover it up.  (Great video for Crossroads in the California area)

Three D's of Democrat coverage: dodge, deflect & deflate.

We have already seen MSNBC try to deflate the issue by saying there is nothing there, as they have maintained about Solyndra.  Next they will try to deflect the issue by the usual blather about this is for a greater good to get rid of guns, etc.  The final act will be a dodging dance worthy of a flamenco dancer on LSD and a Ritalin overdose.  Lots of stomping and clicking to provide cover,  but in the end this administration MUST answer for the growing number of deaths attributed to the tragic fiasco on both sides of the border.  The Obama administration, always hypocritical in the penultimate, has more than demonstrated its willingness to simply ignore laws it finds inconvenient to its left-wing agenda.  What is more troubling is this coming on top of calls for less democracy and the optics created by the confluence of the Al-Awlaki incident with Fast & Furious and the coming rationing of medical resources from health care "reform".  Life is very cheap to the Obama administration.

I mentioned this in another thread....these are the spoiled rich kids of the 60's hippies, now coming of age.  Running their mouths, spouting "social justice" nonsense, absolutely NO real world experience, expecting everyone else to pick up the tab for them.  That is until mommy and daddy run out of cash, and they have to get a real job!!  These are the first people who will perish during a catastrophe, since they cant do ANYTHING for themselves.......like a herd of cattle!

...involved in the protests on Wall Street.  She is the most spoiled, petulant and childish brat I ever met.  She went to the protests just to spite her parents, and made the decision to go only because they shut off her credit cards and her allowance after she told them she had been kicked out of UT Austin for not making grades.  What we her major, you ask?  Well it was political science, of course.  Now that she is at the protests, her parents basically told her not to come back.

You can tell most of these protesters are spoiled rotten trust-fund brats who have never known hunger, poverty or distress.  They never had to work for a damned thing and they are angry the gravy train ended with the financial meltdown.  They belong to the generation whose only value is the entitlement poisoning from bad parenting.  They could care less about the plight of others, such as those in the true third world.  Their only concern is sticking it to mom and dad because their allowances were shut off.  They fit right in with the worthless dope and cringe meme from the bat-eared Messiah.

It's even worse than that BEGRUNT. These are the same people who have been professional students all their lives. Many of them have PHD's in skill gaining subjects like philosophy, women studies, black studies, motion sickness studies, etc. That is why they're still living with mom and couldn't qualify to work in Mickey D's. Many have spent their entire lives in the classroom and think the letters after their names should grant them a living. I imagine a great number will go through life never having had a job. In the 60's we were taken in by the sex drugs and rock n roll. The protests we staged in Golden Gate Park were mostly for show. Imho, the whole movement was highjacked by the yippies and Abby Holfman. These guys had an agenda, and it wasn't good. These useful idiots were convinced that Marxism is da bomb, and capitalism was the enemy. Most of the good kids, who were there to experience the crowds of like minded young people and just have fun, left in late 67 when it all went to hell.

Look to one of the quintessential domestic terrorist groups in modern history, for which this idiots are both modeled on and manipulated by - the Weather Underground - for the logical final solution of these punks:

  1. Prevent a counter-revolution
  2. Re-education Centers for capitalists
  3. Exterminate the incorrigible capitalists.

Marxism did not engulf Sino-Soviet countries immediately upon Marx's Communist Manifesto.  It took ~70 years from the time Marx published until the beginning of the Soviet empire in 1917.  Infiltration of believers in various key industries and public offices and their incremental application of ideology and resultant manuipulations were needed for a successful coup.

You nailed that one, MB.............and I've seen and heard it with my own ears - many times!!! I remember having a conversation, before the election, with a lib acquaintence of mine. He told me 'Obama is my man'....................but qualified it by saying that he is actually an 'anarchist'. I pointed out the 180 degree difference in what he just said - but he didn't want to hear it.

MSM is not about to peel Eric Holder like an onion.

Here's how the LA Times headlined their story today (print edition headline):

  • Emails shed light on ETF gun program
     

To be fair, Times staff writer Richard Serrano has covered the story, from early on. It's pretty good coverage for the LAT's.  However, both in the story and the caption of the accompanying  picture of Holder - he is presented as "hedging," on the issue of what and when he knew.  "Appears to be lying," would seem to be more accurate.

And, the closing paragraph(s) (always read that first, for what the writer wants to leave the reader with):

  • On May 3, he was asked by Issa when he first learned about Fast and Furious. "I'm not sure of the exact date," Holder testified. "But I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."
  • Justice Department officials said Holder was referring to the date when he first learned about the operational details of Fast and Furious, not the program itself.

MSM is always quick to offer up the defense - for their own.

Secondly, there always the other issue with the MSM, when the target is a Democrat, as opposed to a Republican.

The story is still being told (always is, when the bad guys are Democrats) via a 3rd person POV . . "investigators say. . " -- "Republicans (or, GOP) are charging that . . "

When it's a Republican  that is in the spotlight - the editors put the staff to work - and the story is out to get 'em. They find the evidence - the witnesses - the experts - and they tell the story in first person. "We uncovered. . . "--  "It appears that . ." --

In fact, Tim Rutten, a very liberal former staff opinion columnist at the LA Times, wrote the most revealing piece about how they dropped the ball on the John Edwards scandal. This applies universally, I'd say:

  • As pressure mounted on major newspapers to take some aspect of the unfolding scandal into account, editors and ombudsmen issued statements saying it would be unfair to publish anything until the Enquirer's stories had been "confirmed." 
  • Well, there's confirming and then there's confirming. One sort occurs when an editor mutters, "Find somebody and have them make a few calls." Then there's the sort that comes when that editor summons an investigative reporter with a heart like ice and a mind like Torquemada's and says, "Follow this wherever it goes and peel this guy like an onion."
  • Suffice to say that the follow-up of the Enquirer's story fell into the former category in too many newsrooms, including that of The Times.
     

Like Slyndra, AG Eric Holder will not appear to be an onion to the national MSM. Why? He's a Democrat.

 After I gave away all my extra zucchini, tomatoes and summer squash  I promised I would turn over a new leaf ...  I hate to admit it but I am in possession of an untagged indoor lemon tree.

Seriously, these trees apparently have to be USDA approved and come with a tag (not sure if mine ever did?).   There are states where it is actually illegal to buy citrus from.  Yes, the USDA has an entire website devoted to citrus.  And yes, USDA agents will come knock on your door and take away your tree if you purchased from a non certified grower.  What a burdensome mess.  I wonder how much is truly for our safety and how much is pressure from special interest lobbies.

Why is the focus only on the one Gun running project?

Operation Castaway–in which the government authorized the sale of weapons knowing they would fall into the hands of Honduran gangs, such as MS13 and the  Mara Salvatrucha and the rival Mara 18, An estimated 20,590 people died violently here in the last five years, according to the Madrid-based nonprofit Observers of Violence in massive shoot outs to control the drug industry.


Project Gangwalker the ATF and the DOF allowed the straw purchases of weapons which eventually ended up in the hands of United States gang members in Indiana” Operation Community Shield,” individuals are from El Salvador, three are from Mexico, one is from Honduras and one is from Haiti. ICE said the individuals are members or associates of the following street gangs: MS-13, Sur-13, and Zoe Pound.  Charged in connection with the shooting of an Indianapolis police officer last week are gang members, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office Gonzalez-Ramirez is a member of the Puros Vatos Locos street gang, and Taboada-Perez is a member of the SCT-13 gang. Both have tattoos that express allegiance to those gangs, authorities said. and other weapons have  been found at crime scenes in that state and surely have spread out from there to other gangs.

Now picture gang bangers in armed flash mobs,  And just where did that army that Obama formed disappear to?


Add to that a state governor that thinks there should be no elections for two years until the congress can fix the problems they are facing.  And Obama does not think that Americans understand democracy as well as he does.
It all leads to the UN small arms treaty that Hillary signed off on all to disarm the American populace.

And all these are now excesses to suspend the second amendment rights of the citizens.

HPV caused throat cancers increased 72% from 1988 to 2004.

Just how much of this is due to William Jefferson Clinton sexscapades with Monica Lewinsky imprinting on American youth that oral sex, the presumptive cause of the HPV-related throat cancers, was both "not sex" and no big deal.  There certainly was a current of thought in youth that oral sex was not "sex" and OK to do following Clinton's perjured testimony.  How much is due to Leftist attitudes towards underage sex and promiscuity in general?
