Breaking News: ATF Director Reassigned in Wake of 'Fast & Furious'

By NB Staff | August 30, 2011 | 18:27

A  A

"Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson has been reassigned to a lesser post in the Justice Department and the U.S. attorney for Arizona was also pushed out Tuesday as fallout from Operation Fast and Furious reached new heights," Fox News's William LaJeunesse reported earlier today.

"U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota B. Todd Jones will replace Melson," LaJeunesse added.

Silly me

I thought it said "resigned" for a second there and my next thought was "Wow, a liberal pushed back from the public trough because they screwed up!".

Yeah Grumpy but these are rather small fish. I want Holder and Obama on the hot seat.

Reasssignment, bah.

Submitted by HockeyKid on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 6:46pm.

It should be Holder and Obysmal up on felony charges for illegal trafficking in firearms and RICO violations. They cooked up the whole scheme to try to "prove" that American arms companies were the main source for the Mexican drug lords. Typical liberal attempt at faking evidence when real evidence doesn't exist.

We need to remove Chicago thuggery from the White House, the Justice Department, and Washington in general.

That's What I Was Thinking

Submitted by tcm14 on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 6:53pm.

The head of the ATF is just a scapegoat to take the pressure off of the real brains behind this, Holder and Obama.

We need to know what they knew and when they knew it.

This move is meaningless in the overall picture

Submitted by Dave. on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 6:50pm.

Clearly the ATF is a rogue federal agency that is out of control and apparently accountable to no one.

Innocent people have lost their lives due to this idiotic scheme on the part of the gun-grabbers to further erode our 2nd Amendment rights. Merely shifting government goon bodies around isn't going to cut it.

The repubs need to be screaming bloody murder over all this, up to and including defunding the ATF in it's entirety.

First of all, there is no constitutional authority whatsoever for the federal government to be regulating alcohol, tobacco, or firearms in the first place.

Secondly, I don't allow the mixing af alcohol and firearms in my house, anyway.

Why should the federal government be allowed to?

Melson getting a Get Out of Jail Free card.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 7:26pm.

I'm pretty sure that this was Melson's payoff for keeping his mouth shut to save Eric the Red, and Bambi's asses.

He is a career civil servant.  He was never "appointed" to the patronage job of ATF Director.  Had he been, he could have been fired and not retired.  As a career pig at the trough, he can't be fired unless he kills somebody, and then it's iffy.

His deal is, sit down, shut up, you'll get a pay raise and a nice retirement if you just keep your mouth shut and protect your homeys.

→ Can Melson live with it?

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 7:42pm.

The question we all have is whether Melson can live with the voice of dead Border agent, Brian Terry, calling to him from the grave for justice.

It's disgusting that Melson even considers taking this blood money for the rest of his life, that Eric Holder can publicly cover up his deeds though the heap stinks to high heaven, that the President expects us to believe Holder was ignorant of a plot he'd bragged about a year earlier.

"What have you have done?  Your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground!" - Genesis

Let me add, I do believe Melson was unaware of the malicious dealings of Eric Holder before the death of agent Terry.  I just question how Melson can keep a conscience and keep the hush money too.

"Oh, Come on, now!"

Submitted by neutron on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 8:35pm.

I read the NB post and supporting news articles, and a scene from Rodney Dangerfield's movie "Back To School" is leaping to mind.

Dean Martin (Ned Beatty) is defending Thornton Mellon (Dangerfield) when he is caught "red-handed" cheating.

"Oh, come on! Mr Mellon said he was sorry, and in deference to him, it was a really BIG check!"

Yeah, the pay-off is set, the fix is in, the Dems will stonewall like we have never seen. They will cut their wrists and throw everyone they have to under the bus to keep power.

It will be after the 3rd week in November when the alphabet stations mention for 15 seconds the fiasco of our gun-running Pres and his racist Attourniquet General.

Holder and Obama knew about

Submitted by RocktheJungle on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 9:24pm.

Holder and Obama knew about this back in 2009, if i can find the link of the video where it was admitted i will post it.

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 9:39pm.

Yep, they knew, and evidently didn't care if American Law Enforcement officers got killed. If they did care, they would be cooperating rather than stonewalling.

You'll notice the liberals on this site are sidestepping this issue, big time.

Obama needs to resign instead

Submitted by rbosque on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 9:54pm.

Obama needs to resign instead of throwing this guy under the bus. He is ultimately responsible, it was Obama that hatched this scheme.

Resign Obama.

I wasn't kidding in February.....

This really is bigger than Watergate.

The reshuffling around is a shell game that keeps these folks just our of reach of Issa and his "oversight" capability. That is fine with Issa, as his state goal is to make sure nothing like this happens again.

Not surprisingly, his goal is not seeing the clearly guilty and the obvious fact that EVERYBODY knew what was going on (by everybody I mean Hillary, Robert, Janet, Eric, Barry, and the rest of the big shots) come to light in such a way as to see multiple people serve jail time for this perfect storm of corruption and Constitution trampling.

Some are more kind to Issa, and Grassley (the pigford duo) than I. I submit that they are contributing to and responsible for the slow play as much as mainstream media is contributing to and responsible for the cover up.

Barry's plan is to move the shells around, in as confusing a way as possible, as many times as possible to try to run out the clock.

Every Republican in the House and Senate could take to the steps of the Capital building tomorrow and, in concert, demand that Barry come clean on GunWalker.
That they do not, and have not already done so, should be alarming to everyone who puts stock in that party.

Being too afraid to take on Barry over his ineligibility is one thing, being too afraid to "make a federal case" out of this is quite another. Barry and crew used taxpayer money to violate individuals rights, to subvert the very "tools" claimed necessary to stop this very kind of thing, to break international treaty, to use people's lives as pawns, all meant to fabricate statistics that would be used to subvert the Constitution of these united States, specifically the Second Amendment to it.

This is TREASON, straight up, and Barry should be impeached, convicted, and punished for what he did. So too should the others.....every one of them.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Submitted by gmaniac1 on Wed, 08/31/2011 - 1:19am.

do they resign and let not the deaths of some low on the totem pole agents get in the way of a promotion.

I know the liberals will say the old tired phrase in response to this "Bush lied, people died" but have they effectively ever proved that he actually lied. Shoot they can't even say that Bush was mistaken with a straight face because if he was mistaken and/or lied so did the entire Clinton administration, Democrat(ic) party who signed on with Bush, and now the Obama administration who continue to combat terrorism with Bush's policies, aka so-called lies.

Obama and more significantly Holder need to answer for the hapless deaths of these brave agents.
