Open Thread: DNC Chair Lies About Ryan Medicare Plan, Fact-checkers Claim

By NB Staff | June 01, 2011 | 09:55

A  A

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, new chairwoman of the DNC, falsely claimed Sunday that the Ryan Medicare plan would deny care to seniors with preexisting medical conditions and that all future beneficiaries of Medicare would be abandoned by the Ryan plan and have to buy their own insurance from a private company.

As reported by both FactCheck.org and Washington Post, both of her Democratic talking points are simply untrue. In reality, according to the two sites, the Ryan plan specifically says that insurance companies "must agree to offer insurance to all Medicare beneficiaries" and subsidizes future beneficiaries so they can buy private insurance through a Medicare exhange program set up by the government.

Read what Wasserman-Schultz had to say after the break, and let us know what you think in the comments.

What they would do is they would take the people who are younger than 55 years old today and tell them, ‘You know what? You’re on your own. Go and find private health insurance in the health-care insurance market. We’re going to throw you to the wolves and allow insurance companies to deny you coverage and drop you for pre-existing conditions. We’re going to give you X amount of dollars and you figure it out.

Even with a quick read over Ryan's plan, Wasserman Schultz's claims are easily debunked. What are your thoughts on her perception of Ryan's plan?

She benefits from a media that has decided,

Submitted by Mark81150 on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 11:00am.

She's the CORRECT kind of woman,... Sarah Palin and Congresswoman Bachman? Surely you jest,... A hard left female can be as dumb as a fencepost, and get rave reviews and high fives from the media establishment. Even one as vindictively and openly as much a liar and fraud as Schultz.

We all know that the media accepts any premiss a democrat advances as it's own, while acting as if the republican, conservative or not, is of questionable honesty and must prove every thing they say. A democrat gets taken at face value,a difference the media thinks we're to dim to see.

Schultz is the worst, worst kind of demagogue, she's not only dishonest, but mean, as well as stupid.

She's been openly lying about the Ryan plan, and the media let's her, if she's challenged at all, it's as one half of a point counter point debate on a friendly network, that never has a moderator say anything to refute an obvious lie, instead letting her ramble on with the republican disputing her, as if the audience weren't trained to see the republican as suspect already.... (because we ALL know.. republicans hate old people,.... the meme the media loves and will not quash.)

Like most folks here, I didn't stumble on this website and suddenly say,... Oh,... so the press lies for the democrats huh? Never knew that before..

I've come to this as part of a long long time of watching the media become more and more hostile to the core values of what I thought, Americans were about. From an uncle in Vietnam, disputing the Cronkite assertion, we "lost" Tet to the Viet Cong in 68,.. through to this day.. Watching as the lefts talking points, became the next media report, then when FOX came along, if not a perfect network, one devoted to bringing my values into the debate with respect, and a fair shot at being heard...

The old MSM's credibility has been gone along time.. journalistic ethics weren't killed by FOX, they committed suicide well before FOX came along, the Schultz nonsense is another example..

Imagine their response, if The RNC chair said the same kind of lie.... oh wait,... they already act as if he does.

and Schultz gets a pass and a walk, to continue her lies...

God help this country, when the MSM is rooting for a one party state.

Dude... she's only like lying and stuff,.. it's just a tool to help old people,... not like lying is being dishonest or anything like that....

The readership at the WaPo,... is hopelessly leftwing, over educated..... and for a supposedly educated group, frighteningly backwoods bigoted and prejudiced about half the country... I didn't know that we republicans spent every waking moment dreaming of stealing from the poor to give it to Jewish Bankers, while plotting the overthrow of King Barack the 1st., Emperor, and knight regent of all that is kitteny good and unicorny righteous..... you'd think... why, they don't believe those evil repugs that....

rainbows fly out of his a**.....

The denizens of the dimwit underground have an excuse,.. they're idiots... the loyal WaPo readership shouldn't be that low rent a crowd, but the comparisons are stark... there isn't much both of them won't believe about conservatives, and they pack around as much antisemitism as your average Klansman.

Senior executives give low marks to Obama appointees
By Erin Dian Dumbacher May 27, 2011

A new survey shows strained relationships between senior career federal managers and executives and the political appointees they work with.

In the survey, respondents rated Obama appointees lower than those in previous administrations. Obama appointees earned a C average, or 2.0, compared with a 2.3 for those in the George W. Bush and Clinton administrations. More than 30 percent gave Obama appointees a D or an F for overall job performance, while only 20 percent awarded past appointees such low marks.

Nearly 60 percent of respondents gave Obama appointees a grade of C or lower for their functional expertise, ...

By this statement, you wouldn't know that sales for the Volt averaged a dismally low 425 per month for the first four months of the year. GM recently stated that they had the capacity to build at a pace of 17,000 per year.

The IRS form in its current form does not safeguard against double claiming of the tax credit.

Ryan Medicare Plan

Submitted by joeaiello on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 2:17pm.

Ryan's plan, sacrificing future middle class medicare recipients in favor of expanded insurance company profits and extended tax cuts for the rich, will kill any recent republican gains in 2012. It's a gift to the DNC.

Oh, goody, a new libtroll!

Submitted by Phryj1 on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 5:00pm.

1. Ryan's plan subsidizes insurance coverage for middle and lower income Medicare recipients. It's already illegal for private insurance companies to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions or to deny care. So, how does the Ryan plan sacrifice middle class Medicare recipients?
2. If want to talk about insurance company profits, why don't you take it up with Obama and the Dems who support the Individual Mandate in Obamacare? So, it's okay to force EVERYONE to buy insurance policies -which only insurance companies actually benefit from- but it's suddenly bad when you suggest Medicare recipients do the same? Ryan's reform takes advantage of new laws requiring insurers to cover pre-existing conditions, etc. by subsidizing insurance premiums for Medicare recipients. It would also save taxpayers lots of money.
3. You left out the part of the Ryan plan that eliminates loopholes and exemptions from the tax code. Under Ryan's plan, multi-millionaire individuals and multi-billion dollar corporations that currently pay no taxes, and in some cases, NEGATIVE taxes (GE) would actually be paying taxes.

If the MSM, DNC, and the lefty blogs would STOP TELLING LIES about the Ryan plan, people would actually know that, but that's exactly why the left has to lie about it, because they care more about their political survival than doing the right thing for the country.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

You don't read much do you? Just repeat, ad nauseam, what your told? Look at it this way, if Medicare is not revamped, there will be no Medicare recipients at all, in 10 years. What is that going to do for you then?

Another thing, if you look at the insurance companies since Obama care came in, their stocks have gone up. The reason their stocks have gone up, is their prices have gone up, creating more revenue and higher profits, hence, better returns on ones investment.

The DOW fell 280 points today with the dismal economic news. Housing fell, 38000 jobs created last month, (needs to be above 100,000) and planed lay offs are in the works. Gold is up above 1500.00. And to top it off, the fed is getting ready to print more money. Unless you think a devalued dollar is a good thing, that is really bad news. Sooner than later, unless Obama loses this election, gas will be 5 buck a gallon. Now, you must understand, Lybia imports all their gas, and still the gas prices are only .15 cents a gallon.

And your telling me some idiot idea that Medicare is the problem here???? What planet you from?

I find Deb's "logic" interesting...

Submitted by Phryj1 on Wed, 06/01/2011 - 5:08pm.

...if you'll remember, according to Dems, Obamacare forcing people to buy insurance is good because insurance coverage=healthcare, but according to Debbie's regurgitated Dem talking points, Ryan plan moving Medicare from directly paying for care to subsidizing insurance premiums is bad because insurance coverage =/= healthcare.

Do you realize what this means? The Obama administration and the Democrat Party have contradicted themselves. THAT is a gift to the GOP. Time to hammer that home as hard as we can.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.
