MRC-TV: Bozell Discusses Government Shutdown Bias on 'Fox & Friends'

By NB Staff | April 08, 2011 | 13:07

A  A

It's déjà vu all over again with the media's coverage of a looming federal government shutdown.

NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center president Brent Bozell noted on the April 8 "Fox & Friends" how the media are deploying similar talking points to lay blame on congressional Republicans should the government shut down.

What's more, noted Bozell:

No one's asking the question, to the Democrats, is withholding food for the families of men serving overseas worth it to keep Planned Parenthood open to you? Is it so important for you to keep funding an entity like PBS, that's completely irrelevant, that you would see all the museums in the United States closed down? No one's asking that question.

[Audio available here; Video available here]

Another point overlooked by the media is that we wouldn't be in this position if President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress last year had done their job and passed a budget for 2011, funding the government through September of this year:

If Barack Obama, mister adult here, if he had instead of castigating everybody for the last six months, if he had done his job when he and the Democrats controlled everything in October... had they done their job, this wouldn't be happening. All this is happening because Republicans are picking up the pieces of the mess left behind by the Democrats. And so now the Democrats are doing nothing but blaming the Republicans.

If President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress last year had done their job and passed a budget for 2011, they would have lost even more seats in the House and Senate in the election. They knew exactly what the were doing. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi orchestrated this Kabuki play of a government shutdown.

Just shut it all down.

Submitted by E.S.Blofeld on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 1:23pm.

No funding for anything. Just shut it all down.
Social Programs, Military Programs, etc... all of it. Shut it down. Make sure to put in place no back pay for the eventual reopening of a more simple government. Shut it down.

...who thought exactly the same way about PP. Really got into the kool-aid, until I showed him proof! He was floored! For the first time, I believe, he found out how much his liberal friends, and the media, have been lying to him all his life.

Don't blame your sister. Blame liberals for their constant cover up of the truth to forward a destructive agenda.

Government Shutdown

I understand a lot of the argument is over the de-funding of Planned Parenthood. As one Dumbocrat stated, the Republicans will be killing Women, Well, all I can say they have been killing unborn babies for decades so, I guess they know all about killing.

It's the election, stupid

Submitted by vstol on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 3:14pm.

It's the election, stupid.

Why didn't the 111th Congress even offer, much less pass, a budget bill?

They didn't want to 'own' it.

Why hasn't the Senate put HR 1 to a vote?

It might pass.

Why hasn't the Senate offered up their own budget bill to counter HR 1?

They don't want to own it.

Why did the President keep his distance from the budget battle until recently?

He didn't want to be held responsible for the impasse.

Why won't the Senate put the latest House CR to a vote?

It might pass and the President has said he would veto it. If he did, he would receive the blame for the shutdown and the House Republicans might get credit for trying to avoid a shutdown.

What is the President's (and Reid's) strategy?

To come in at the last moment, broker a deal and receive all the credit for preventing a government shutdown, OR in the case of no deal being made, to paint House Republicans as being held hostage by the tea party movement, and with the help of a compliant press, lay the blame for a shutdown at the feet of the Republicans and their extreme agenda.

To what end?

Primarily, to guarantee the reelection of the President, and secondly, to give the democrats a chance to take back majority control of the House.

In Obama's plan, it's a win/win situation.

It's all about the 2012 election.

Howie Carr (WRKO in Boston)

Submitted by celator on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 5:13pm.

Howie Carr (WRKO in Boston) is receiving calls on his talk show from Federal employees about the "shut down".

To a person, they are overjoyed with the shutdown. One said that federal employees in his office are scheduling tee-times on Monday, planning on going to the beach, etc. They said they will be paid, and they look at this as a paid vacation and are rooting for the "shutdown".

Reid's comments about Federal employees being on "pins needles" about the "shutdown" are "complete nonsense", according to the Fed callers. They WANT the shutdown.

Why don't any of them point

Submitted by amyshulk on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 9:10pm.

Why don't any of them point out the root problem? That yeah, in the grand scheme, these are small amounts, but when you compile enough of these things that gov't shouldn't be in the business of funding at all, you start saving real money? Is it because they think the surface voters will think they are trying to follow the Tea Party template of the Fed. gov't being small and States rights???

n/m - Just watched Mike Pence on Hannity from last night's show, and he laid it all out. I was ticked because Pat Toomey was on Morning Joe and he didn't connect the dots when that sniveling, viscous little toad Heilman tried to get him to denounce the Tea Party.
