Open Thread: Media Matters on the Attack

By NB Staff | March 29, 2011 | 09:21

Change font size:  A |  A

Today's starter topic: Left-wing attack group Media Matters is vowing to make its attacks on Fox News personal:

Media Matters, Brock said, is assembling opposition research files not only on Fox’s top executives but on a series of midlevel officials. It has hired an activist who has led a successful campaign to press advertisers to avoid Glenn Beck’s show. The group is assembling a legal team to help people who have clashed with Fox to file lawsuits for defamation, invasion of privacy or other causes. And it has hired two experienced reporters, Joe Strupp and Alexander Zaitchik, to dig into Fox’s operation to help assemble a book on the network, due out in 2012 from Vintage/Anchor. (In the interest of full disclosure, Media Matters last month also issued a report criticizing “Fox and Friends” co-host Steve Doocy’s criticism of this reporter’s blog.)

Brock said Media Matters also plans to run a broad campaign against Fox’s parent company, News Corp., an effort which most likely will involve opening a United Kingdom arm in London to attack the company’s interests there. The group hired an executive from MoveOn.org to work on developing campaigns among News Corp. shareholders and also is looking for ways to turn regulators in the U.S., U.K., and elsewhere against the network.

What makes this "personal?" You mean like Bull O'Really? sending his attack poodle to ambush interview someone on vacation?

Yesterday (March 28, 2011) Off-the-Mark ranted and raved about Media Matters for America being a "criminal front organization," and claimed for years he's called for the IRS to investigate it for money laundering, misusing its charity status, etc., etc.

Is that an attack? War? "Personal?"

There are so many insignificant political sites on the web that even if Media Matters succeeds in their new mission the story will only reach 50 people. Much like the majority of the political blogs, unless you're writing for a profitable site you're only on the radar of a select few individuals. And you're not changing the world in the process.

There is a law, I believe in all 50 states, that allows a lawsuit for "Intentional Interference of a Contractual Relationship". Even Wikipedia mentions it. When will all of the subjects of advertising boycotts file a suit against such people as MM, MoveOn and such? I would LOVE to see how that turns out. MediaMatters really WILL turn in to a not-for-profit company! LOL

Our nation's elites are doing just fine, thank you.

Washington DC appears to be the only market that has weathered the recent storm. While it was up only 0.1% for the month of January, it’s annual rate was a relatively healthy +3.6%, it is still +10.7% above its March 2009 low, and ranks number one among the 20 markets as its average value is almost 85% above its January 2000 level.

All Soros has is money.  Ailes has cojones, and money.

Seems I remember some under reported story that Georgie survived WWII as a Jew because he helped the Nazis round up other Jews.  That's nervy, man.

All you need to know about Soros and MM is that Oblahblah is their hand picked boy.  They will use him till he is of no use to them anymore and dump him like the piece of crap that he is.

Who knows.  Maybe Arianna will be their pick for the first female president, and we can then have not only a "post racial" world but a "post sexual" world.  If Baany Fwank lasts long enough, he can be their first gay stooge "post-it-to-me" president!

After I read your post about six times, I finally figured you meant "they inexplicably picked" instead of "then inexplicably picked."

Actually your comment validates mine.  They dumped Hill in a heartbeat when it became obvious that Obama would make a better horse for the race they had planned.  I guess up till then that whole birth certificate thingy caused them to hesitate.  Once they saw that that wasn't going to be a problem, they got the teleprompter to tell Obama that he was the Chosen One.

As for j. frank?  See below.  Maybe you can get a class action lawsuit against ALL of us at once.

We may actually agree, but for different reasoning.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Tue, 03/29/2011 - 1:55pm.

Soros IS Media Matters.  He alone wants to be king of the world once he institutes his New World Order.  To do that he must dupe other ambitious liberals into helping him.  He accomplishes that by letting them think that he is helping THEM.

These people are all so full of themselves that they figure they will be the king of the hill once the game is over.  Wrong!  George is the puppet master.  He learned at a young age how to con the system when he was helping the Nazis against his own people.  Anyone who would do that with no regrets won't hesitate to throw some dupe under the bus when it becomes necessary to further his cause.

Make no mistake.  World domination is his cause.  The man cares about nothing but his own ambitions.  There is no honor among this pack of thieves.

Newsbubba:

There is no proof Mr. Soros "is" MM4A. That wild claim has been out there for some time - it has not been proven because it is not true.

Like many other wealthy individuals, Mr. Soros has goals and objectives and he has the fiscal resources to pursue them. There are a number of rich ultra-conservatives bankrolling their own projects. Mr. Soros isn't a James Bond villian seeking to rule the world. But if it makes you comfortable to believe that, go right ahead.

You are welcome to attempt to judge the actions of a fourteen year old boy caught in the Hell of World War II. I wasn't there - and, happily, I've never had to face anything close to such a situation. I'm going to leave it up to someone who was there to form an intelligent opinion - anyone else is not only guessing, but is probably trying to crudely graft a conclusion onto poorly understood information.

My wife's grandmother stole food and firewood to keep her two very young daughters alive in Germany at the end of WW II. Wouldn't you do that for your family? If you say "Yes" I can call you a thief. If you say "No" I can accuse you of not loving your own kids. That's just too easy a game for anyone who didn't experience it first-hand.

There you have it, Frank.

Submitted by Newsbubba on Tue, 03/29/2011 - 3:52pm.

Your grandmother did what she had to do so that she and her daughters survived, but she apparently did not subject others to torture and death to protect herself.

Therein lies the difference between courage and cowardice.  Your grandmother (I'm betting) would not have thrown her friends and neighbors to the Nazi wolves just so she could survive.  To do that, like Georgie, you'd have to be a sociopath, as someone pointed out above.  Otherwise you couldn't live with yourself.

I believe that people are born with courage in their heart, or they are born cowards.  It's not something that you learn as you go along, so there are 14 year old true heroes and there are 14 year old cowards who don't give a crap about anyone or anything but themselves.  History is filled with stories of both types.

So you go ahead and put your trust and faith in dogs like Soros.  I'll go with people like the 12 year old girl who got out a rifle and protected herself and her little brother against some human crap who was breaking in her home when they were alone.

I am not going to wade through Soro's book, not going to read it either, ever. Fact of the matter is, he said in his interview on 60 minutes that he helped confiscate the possessions of the Jews that were shipped off to die in the camps.

You can sugar coat that anyway you want, and a boy or not, he was old enough to know what he was doing. And to hear him tell it, it still doesn't bother him a bit. And it never has. Soros did not get rich helping the poor. He got rich off the back of the dead and those being promised showers. And now his entire attitude is to do the same thing to countries. And has been for years. Where do you think he got his money? Worked for it? Ha! He made his wealth on currencies trading. You buy enough, then sell it all at once, you can destroy an economy. A nation, a country, a people.

Soros is a parasite on the world and should be treated just like Gadhafi.

Submitted by bassndude on Tue, 03/29/2011 - 4:53pm.

Like I said trog, your a moron.

1) did not say he helped round up Jews. I said he helped confiscate property of the Jews that were shipped off. -You lied.

2) It is true. Check the British news papers from that year. If you check you will find where Soros admits that he manipulated the British dollar. In other words, he took his billions and shorted the British dollar. Shorting requires you sell at market price. As more is sold, the price falls. After the price falls far enough you buy back at a bid price. All stocks and currencies can be manipulated if you have the money to do so. -You lied again.

3)True. While the Jews were shown to the death camps and gas showers, he was confiscating their property, and being well paid for the job. He made a lot of money off the death of his people, gained a lot of privileges during the Nazi rule. -You lied again.

4)If Soros was a capitalist, he would be for keeping the capitalist system. He is not. He has publicly stated that he wants to remake the economic system. He wants to collapse the US system and remake it. You don't read much do you? You should check up on your hero.

I find it strange you did not mention the fact that he offered to help his mother commit suicide. But I am sure it was just out of love, and not the habit of confiscating Jewish property.

Your such an uneducated, ignorant moron.

For 2.) Evasion on your part. You said he was devastating retirement savings for millions of Britons. Now back it up.

I didn't doubt that he shorted the pound. As every capitalist would do, he exploited a commitment the British government and the Bank of England found themselves unable to keep. Everyone else with enough money could have done it. He was first.

Ad 3.) He made a lot of money off the death of his people, gained a lot of privileges during the Nazi rule. Do you just want to add one lie to the next? How much did he make? And how did he lose everything, when he emigrated to Britain? You are just full of crap.

Ad 4.) Again your words were

And like I said, Soros is no capitalist. A capitalist is for everyone to enjoy the same rights to make money as he is.

Back that up and don't evade. When did he deny someone the same right to make money he enjoyed?

trog, read the link. Any time you force the Bank of England to pull currency from the European Exchange because of collapse, and you make 1.1 billion, (thats billion with a b) dollars. That is not a good thing for you to do.

"And while the financial crisis continued to deepen across the globe, the 78-year-old Hungarian still managed to make $1.1bn last year. Soros' reputation was made by betting against the pound before the Bank of England was forced to withdraw the currency from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1992 on Black Wednesday. He earned an estimated $1.1bn in the process and was dubbed 'the man who broke the Bank of England'."

No frank, not at all. The problem with Soros and his book is, to many differing stories he has told. The man's word is not to be trusted. He is a  manipulator of facts. And like I said, Soros is no capitalist. A capitalist is for everyone to enjoy the same rights to make money as he is. He’s a rabid critic of capitalism, but in 1992 when he saw a chance, he speculated against the British pound, causing it to crash, devastating retirement savings for millions of Britons. Soros pocketed $1.1 billion for himself.

In 2002, Soros was convicted of insider trading in France, and fined millions of dollars. He admitted buying the shares, but denied it was a crime. If that was true, why was he convicted?

Last year, when he made $3.3 billion off the banking collapse, he called the world’s financial crisis “the culmination of my life’s work.” Yeah, a real piece of work there. To hear him talk about it, he engineered the whole thing.

This is a man who boasted he offered to help his mother commit suicide. Apparently he didn’t see enough death in Hungary. Or he just needed more Jewish furniture and property to sell to bump up his meager savings.

Soros is a sociopath. But he’s a sociopath with $14 billion, and he likes to spend it on politics.

George Soros Interview On 60 Minutes

I'm no fan of George Soros.  I would, however, cut George Soros a whole lot of slack for what he did as a 14 year old in Axis controlled Hungary during World War 2.  I have never seen any point at all for trying to demonize a 14 year old Soros in this way.  It only gives his supporters something to deflect on, instead of focusing on the evils that Soros has and is perpetrating today.

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That's right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that's–that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not–not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don't–you don't see the connection. But it was–it created no–no problem at all.

KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

Mr. SOROS: No.

KROFT: For example that, 'I'm Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.' None of that?

Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c–I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn't be there, because that was–well, actually, in a funny way, it's just like in markets–that if I weren't there–of course, I wasn't doing it, but somebody else would–would–would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the–whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the–I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.

The crux of the matter with Soros is not that as a 14 year old he hid his identity from and actively participated in assisting the Nazis in order to save his life, but the pathological disassociation of guilt from his actions, even in his adult life. (see Blonde's post above for the transcript of Soros' 60 Minutes interview) This pathology aides him in destroying or worsening millions of lives with his narcissistic and vengeful financial dealings.

Soros is the epitome of eevilness the Left thinks of those on the Right. Financially supporting the Left washes away the blood and dirt. Hypocrites all.

grilling, is vastly over-rated, at least this time of year.  Had to grill dinner, breakfast and lunch last Tuesday-Wednesday, because of the ice storm here.  Between making sure the generator was running, fielding phone calls from the Marines, and getting gasoline for the generator and propane for the grill, I can guarantee it's a lot more fun to cook on a stove.  But Happy Birthday to all you kids.

Drones and satellites are great but somebody has to be there to adjust the fire or light up the targets.

Nothing to do with homeownership, but interesting none-the-less.  The graph makes the point that by 2013, China is going to overtake the United States in "Citations in Scientific Literature", whatever that means.  The graph also illustrates that by 2030, the United States will go negative in the percentage of Citations in Scientific Literature.

I'm guessing we have stumbled on a graph from some liberal think-tank that is pushing for higher grants to liberal universities or something like that.  The United States obviously can't do anything scientific without more tax money being slushed around somewhere.

swiss cheese

Submitted by jon_torlin on Tue, 03/29/2011 - 11:13pm.

So.....Baby Swiss or Aged Swiss?

I have tried it the way you suggested and you are quite correct, it's very good, defying description and even the taste buds' sense of belief, in some cases, reality.  I use the thin but maple-flavored bacon for the baby swiss as it has a sweeter taste, or I'll use the applewood smoked bacon for the aged swiss.

I like a variety of cheese and I like Swiss in general for a variety of reasons, but for those watching salt content, Swiss Cheese is the way to go, it's got the lowest salt content out of all the others.  Smoked Gouda with Ritz crackers is another fave followed by thick slices of mozzarella and honey-smoked turkey on Ritz crackers again, and to make the taste buds cry out in joy, I put a dab of spicy brown mustard on top of the turkey.  I'm salivating just thinking about it.

It makes for snacks at work that everyone can enjoy and it's healthy.

Yeah, I've dabbled a bit myself. ;-)

troglodty the little boy liar LIES again.

Submitted by The Vet on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 12:47am.

because he helped the Nazis round up other Jews. Not true.

The Little Boy Liar claims this is not true.

round up (verb) -

1: to collect (as cattle) by means of a roundup
2: to gather in or bring together from various quarters

roundup (noun) -

1b : a gathering in of scattered persons or things <a roundup of all suspects>

keyword - A roundup. A gathering.

The European Jews had to be identified, notified, collected,  & transported. And their wealth disposed of.

George Soros most certainly did help with the roundup of the European Jews.

The Jewish Council asked the little kids to hand out the deportation notices. I was told to go to the Jewish Council. And there I was given these small slips of paper...It said report to the rabbi seminary at 9 am...And I was given this list of names. I took this piece of paper to my father. He instantly recognized it. This was a list of Hungarian Jewish lawyers. He said, "You deliver the slips of paper and tell the people that if they report they will be deported."

He DID deliver the slips of paper.

He traces this antipathy to that day in Hungary when as a fourteen-year-old messenger boy for the Budapest Jewish community organization he had delivered messages, drafted under Nazi pressure, ordering Jewish lawyers to present themselves for deportation.”

And he helped dispose of the weath of those murdered people.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.
SOROS: Yes. That's right. Yes.

troglodty LIES. Right to your face. Then spits in in and writes down your name waiting, waiting for his chance to get revenge should there ever be another roundup.

What's up with the stand up act?

Submitted by troglodyt on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 5:21am.

Your word parsing is as usual desperate.

The European Jews had to be identified, notified, collected, & transported. And their wealth disposed of.

Thank you for this gem. Your Nazi sympathies are duly noted.

"You deliver the slips of paper and tell the people that if they report they will be deported."

You do know that this story, is actually one of warning the Hungarian jews of deportation, don't you?

As your first link demonstrates we are now able to source claims about Soros with the help of his official biography. So what did he exactly do when he "helped in the confiscation of property from the jews"?

Within days of arriving at Baumbach’s, George went for a walk into the Buda hills, where lost in a daydream he moved beyond the city limits. When he turned back, he was stopped by Hungarian gendarmes. “I remember it quite clearly,” he recalled. “I had just arrived at Baumbach’s…I had walked too far. I was frightened but nothing happened. It was the first test of my using a false name and I passed it.”

While he was living with Baumbach as Sandor Kiss, an event occurred that more than half a century later would become the basis of charges that George Soros, the international financier and billionaire, had somehow collaborated with Nazi occupiers of his homeland and had exploited his fellow Jews. The issue was raised in a bizarre television profile and interview of Soros aired on the CBS television program 60 Minutes in December of 1998. In the segment, Steve Kroft, the interviewed, noted with prosecutorial gusto that George’s father had “bribed a government official to swear that you were his godson,” and added that this survival strategy “carried a heavy price tag.” For, he continued, “as hundreds of thousands of Jews were being shipped off to the Nazi death camps, a thirteen-year-old George Soros accompanied his phony godfather on his rounds, confiscating property from the Jews.” Visibly dumbfounded by the line of questioning, Soros could only manage to say that he had no role in the seizure of property and was merely a spectator. To underscore Kroft’s point, film footage showed masses of Hungarian Jews being led away at gunpoint.

This is what actually happened. Shortly after George went to live with Baumbach, the man was assigned to take inventory on the vast estate of Mor Kornfeld, an extremely wealthy aristocrat of Jewish origin. The Kornfeld family had the wealth, wisdom and connections to be able to leave some of its belongings behind in exchange for permission to make their way to Lisbon. Baumbach was ordered to go to the Kornfeld estate and inventory the artworks, furnishings, and other property. Rather than leave his “godson” behind in Budapest for three days, he took the boy with him. As Baumbach itemized the material, George walked around the grounds and spent time with Kornfeld’s staff. It was his first visit to such a mansion, and the first time he rode a horse. troglodty the little boy liar LIES again.

Submitted by The Vet on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 5:31am.

LBL troglodty: ...this story, is actually one of warning the Hungarian jews of deportation, don't you?

LIE LIE LIE. A vicious nasty lie from a known on these pages antisemite.

Jewish Councils (Judenraete)

During World War II, the Germans established Jewish councils, usually called Judenraete (sg., Judenrat). These Jewish municipal administrations were required to ensure that Nazi orders and regulations were implemented. Jewish council members also sought to provide basic community services for ghettoized Jewish populations.

Forced to implement Nazi policy, the Jewish councils remain a controversial and delicate subject. Jewish council chairmen had to decide whether to comply or refuse to comply with German demands to, for example, list names of Jews for deportation. In Lvov, Joseph Parnes refused to hand over Jews for deportation to the Janowska forced-labor camp and was killed by the Nazis for his refusal. In Warsaw, rather than aid in the roundup of Jews, Jewish council chairman Adam Czerniakow committed suicide on July 22, 1942, the day deportations began.

The wink wink requests for deportation wink wink were just suggestions wink wink to leave wink wink. YOU VICIOUS LYING NAZI APOLOGIST.  How stupid are you that you think you can get away with lies like these?

Friggin' Nazi apologist. Sit there and tell us they were just warnings from the fluffy bunnies to run run run before the nasties came.

Submitted by The Vet on Wed, 03/30/2011 - 6:21am.

Even though they offered many objections, orders were executed in minute detail in order not to offend the occupying forces, even when they realized that the Nazi plan included deportation. It was unknown to them what deportation meant. Although, as time went on, it could hardly be ignored. Everyone was told right from the on-set that deportation meant transfer to German labor camps built for the fittest. Then, how could anyone explain why the very young, the very old, and the infirm were included in these transports? That the Judenrat nevertheless continued the work as ordered by the Nazis...

Everyone was told right from the on-set that deportation meant transfer to German labor camps built for the fittest.

deportation meant transfer to GERMAN LABOR CAMPS.

Capt. UnderPantZ:

At least try to be honest and quote the whole thing. You cut the quote off because the rest of it undermines - indeed, destroys - the feeble point you attempt - and fail - to make:

"Other Jewish council officials advocated compliance, believing that cooperation would ensure the survival of at least a portion of the population. In Lodz, Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski, who tried in vain to persuade the Nazis to reduce the number of Jewish deportees, urged ghetto residents to report for deportation as ordered. Rumkowski also adopted a policy of "rescue through labor," believing that if the Germans could exploit Jewish labor, deportation might be averted.

"Jewish council members held varied views on resistance. In Sosnowiec, Moshe Merin denounced the underground, believing that armed resistance would doom the entire ghetto. In Vilna, Jewish council chairman Jacob Gens decided to hand over underground leader Yitzhak Wittenberg, claiming that if the council did not turn Wittenberg in the Nazis would liquidate the ghetto. Jewish council opposition to resistance often prompted resentment within the underground, which sometimes accused the Jewish councils of collaboration with the Nazis (in Warsaw, the underground attacked the Jewish police).

"Some Jewish council chairmen, such as Efraim Barasz in Bialystok, believed that resistance should be implemented only as a last resort--when a ghetto was about to be liquidated. In Kovno, Elchanan Elkes actively assisted the underground. In Lachva and Tuchin, Jewish council members participated in uprisings. In Diatlovo, Jewish council members organized partisans."

Here is the most important point - but you think you can sit comfortable at home in your little bunny slippers decades later and judge these horrible events:

"The members of the Jewish councils faced impossible moral dilemmas. Often forgotten in the debates over the culpability of the Jewish councils and the Jewish police are the efforts of many Jewish council members and officials in their employ to provide a variety of social, economic, and cultural services under the brutal and difficult conditions in the ghettos."

Notice how troglodyt is now lying about The Vet being a Nazi sympathizer.

And that, after such a short, but mutual butt smooching  association with the proven lying ass, Puddinhead.

The lies do rub off, don't they?

Or is it just that troglodyt cannot come up with anything original and has to bastardize sayings borrowed from The Vet?

Notice, as well, that fwankie Puddinhead is starting to get nasty with those he cannot bamboozle with his bullshit.

Takes time, generally, to get some of these lying trolls out of here; but ol' Puddinhead is nonetheless on the slippery slope now; the increasingly nasty snark is an omen that bespeaks the lying turd's eventual ouster as a know nothing non-contributor from NB threads.
