Open Thread: Hugh Hewitt Takes on Politico Editor Over Liberal Bias
On Monday, conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt hosted Politico.com editor John Harris to discuss Politico's coverage of the aftermath of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting. Hewitt charged that Politico's reporting - both on the Tucson massacre and in general - has been driven hard to the left in recent years. Here's full audio of the exchange, via Breitbart.tv:
Who got the better of this exchange? Did Hewitt make the case adequately? Was Harris convincing in his defense of the paper?

Yeah, Jon. A great way to start my day, too. I open Drudge and there's the little rat bastard bowing down to another of his superiors.
Can we get Him to issue disclaimers that it's just Him bowing and scraping, and not the whole damned country?

Because if we don't turn this country around 180 degrees PDQ, China and the US are going to be trading places at some point that is not nearly as far into the future as many seem to think.
And by he time the American Idol watching dolts in this country wake up and realize it, it's going to be too late to do anything aboput it.

Been ominous
Submitted by jon_torlin on Tue, 01/18/2011 - 2:35pm.
Having him in the WH was ominous since the election night, hell, I knew that as soon as more people found out about him and his infamous "spread the wealth" talk with Joe the Plumber.
All the crap he's been doing recently is showing he's trying to tighten the screws on his hold of the throne, like the regulation review that you mention below. Given that the Republicans started doing the repeal process today, Kathleen Sebelius sent out a note saying "if the republicans have their way, 129 million Americans will be unable to get health care." What a load!
And he's got the EPA "cracking down on coal mining," like West Virginia as seen in this article: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/01/17/obama-coal-crackdown-sends-me...
The dems, especially Sen Rockefeller are none too happy with the move. Just like the EPA is going after Texas, our Lt Governor has gone to the Hill to ask the new Congress to stop them.
With the constant noise from the left since the shooting, I expect the libs and the commies to start ramping things up and it's gonna get even more ugly than it is now.
God help us.

Deny, deflect, and denigrate, all in the most civil terms of course. Harris seems to thinks his reporting is completely unbiased, Or he's doing his best to push his agenda with the "reasoned argument" approach. That doesn't stop him from talking over any dissent and dodging the questions he finds embaressing.
Last week I removed Politico from my "must read" links
Submitted by mom_rox on Tue, 01/18/2011 - 11:08am.
As of last week, I was a frequent visitor to Politico's website. Yes, I knew they leaned left, but last week's coverage of the Tuscon shootings was just too much. Even though their own (or linked) reporting did not have any actual connection between Loughner and Palin, Politico ran 3 or 4 stories about Palin for several days. Naturally, these included a large photo of Palin on either Saturday or Sunday.
Sure, they're smart enough to know that placing Palin in the headline draws viewers, moreso, when they place a large photo of Palin as their main story. However, the coverage was shamefully biased. Talk about an echo chamber. I also noticed the retread/centrist headlines which Hewitt mentioned.

Harris was in babble mode trying to confuse the issue. He did not or could not answer the questions directly and kept refering to Scaroboro as his conservative contributor to Politico. Scaroboro as all of us know, is so far left he thinks that he is on the right. The man is delusional and cannot report truth if it bit him.

I do know I am more sensitive to word usage and story selection but the inability of the Politico Editor to even ackowledge specific examples shows he is completely tone deaf to what is going on. I do not think it is even possible for him to understand the problem because they have become so indocrinated with all things Washington they are now blind to anything that does not fit thier own percieved reality.
It is sad really how easily any group can be contaminated by group think. I have seen it in comapnies, much to thier detriment, and also many institutions. The News Business is no exception. All of them suffer from group think.

...those harmful to job growth.
If Obama was serious about wanting to do away with job-killing regulations, he would ask congress for a repeal bill that covers every law he has signed since taking office, sign it, then resign, thus repealing himself.
Then congress can get busy getting rid of the harmful regs that were in place before Obama came along, and they can start by gutting the EPA.
Then we might have a slight chance at an economic comeback.
Maybe.

The truth is revealed in the last paragraph of the story.
"...the president said his administration would not shy away from writing new rules to address "obvious gaps" in government oversight. "
The real reason behind this review is not to reduce regulation, but to find new areas to write NEW regulations. I.E., we all know that the regulations preventing off shore drilling costs jobs and increases cost of oil and natural gas. Think he will "friendly" up on that ?
Nope, just another snow job from the Whitehouse....

...economy since the mid 1920s, and every year since, they just pile more and more on, along with ever more taxes and fees.
At some point, they are going to do us in, as we are getting ever closer to regulating and taxing America right out of business.
They have finally managed to find all the hidden tax turds burried deep in the bowels of ObamaCare, which I posted a link to soewheres around here the other day.
After reading through all that garbage, I don't see how any real economic recovery is possible. In fact, I see it declining further.
If something doesn't soon change, at some point, many small business owners are going to throw up there hands and say to hell with it.
I know several who already have, and more than a few that are seriously considering it.
They didn't start those businesses to fund government.

Because of my parent's deteriorating health, I take care of most all the errands now, and every once in a while that includes a trip to thier bank, which is different than mine.
I walked up to the front door a while back and noticed a sign on the door that said "No Firearms Allowed."
I walked up to the teller and gave her the stuff for the transaction. As I was about to leave, I noticed I was within earshot of the branch manager who was standing nearby, so I asked the teller who had put the armed robber invitation on the front door.
She kind of looked at me funny, and replied that it wasn't an invitation to armed robbers.
I told her that it might as well be, then turned and walked out the door.
I went in a couple of weeks later, and noticed the sign had been taken down.
Being that this is east Cobb County, Georgia, I am pretty sure I was far from the only one who had said something about that stupid sign.
