For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: ClimateGate reveals attempts to subvert scientific review.

We’re only beginning to analyze and understand the full implications of these emails and the associated data. Among other things, however, these emails suggest that a number of highly reputable climate scientists had been conniving for years to prevent other researchers from obtaining the data needed to replicate climate science results. At the same time, these scientists appear to have colluded to subvert the whole peer review process in order to prevent critical or contradictory results from being published.

This violates the whole social contract that is the basis of what we call science.

Aren't liberals the ones usually whining about putting 'science' before 'ideology'?

Not too soon

We can't be partying too hard just yet, you know they (libs) will put a spin on the whole situation to make them smell like a rose.

They will just go after the hacker and make him/her look treasonous and say it was on all of us right-wing extremists, racists, un-americans... you get my point.

Because they are so predictable!

ah yes,

Very predictable, or atleast the libs seem to think that.

Yes, they can go after the hacker(s).  But in order to do so, they bring further attention to the incestuously collusive actions of the scientists who sold their objectivity in pursuit of a cause.

Not when it's the "correct" ideology....i.e. the position that they want to promote. Then science doesn't matter, it's the "consensus" of opinion that's all-important.

real public data first

the white house or any proponents of the global warming or whatever they call it this year need to have all the sensers , thermometers , computer models etc on a website publicly displayed before another dime is wasted on this nonsense. If I were a proponent I would feel obligated to let the chips fall where they may and actually allow the science to show the way and stop letting predjudice/bias form conclusions.

US will announce target for cutting carbon emissions
By Richard Black
05:01 GMT, Tuesday, 24 November 2009

The US will announce a target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions before next month's UN climate summit, according to a White House official.

The target is expected to be in line with figures contained in legislation before the Senate - a reduction of about 17-20% from 2005 levels by 2020.

The absence of a US target has widely been seen as the single biggest obstacle to agreement at the summit.

Politics

Years ago, as I worked toward a degree in Environmental Science with a major emphasis on government and regulation in Florida I became aware of the overwhelming influence of politics in the science. Even in the early '70s it was apparent that there were only two courses available. In academics the more advanced, graduate courses all led down the path of a correct viewpoint. Even in the contacts I had with those already with Florida's Coastal Zone regulators the same bias was carried over from school. On the other hand, those in government who had to be elected in the conservative, tourism oriented area were not going to believe or even want to see reports or plans that might restrict development. The tension between county commissioners and the staff of the planners was almost Stalinquese, pins and needles stuff. In the end, real science takes a hit. Back then the scientists were trying to see how far they could push the truth before getting sqashed by the pols. Now I reckon, the scientists have idiots like Gore and Obama in thier pockets and figure they can hide the truth in favor of thier supposed "Good."

Terror Conspiracy in Texas? http://www.ynetnews.com

"A massacre at a Texas army base that left 13 people dead is increasingly looking like part of a terror conspiracy rather than an act of a lone gunman. The growing suspicious are related, among other things, to shooter Nidal Malik Hasan's connection to September 11 terrorists, the funds he is suspected of transferring to Pakistan, and his ties with radical Yemenite cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, associated with al-Qaeda."

It's not science with many of them, it's an ideology

They have suborned their purported scientific views to their political ones. This proves that any particular scientific theory is capable of being elevated to an ideology or even a religious-like level that takes over.

All one had to do to see this for the hideous fraud that it is was to do a little bit of research into who was behind it. Talk about flaming red flags.

Sad that so many billions have been, and have yet to be, wasted to "fight" something we have absolutely no control over, and sadder still to think how many here in America have had their freedoms and liberties trampled upon by this hideous fraud.

My Brush With Greatness Sarah Palin Post

So, I'm on my way to work in Orange Park, FL this morning, and I see that I have a green light at the last intersection (Wells and Blanding) that I need to get through.  I'm about to cross Blanding when a deputy Sheriff orders me to stop.  I then see that Blanding Blvd traffic is stopped, and they're stopping all the traffic on Wells Rd.

So, I'm sitting... and sitting... and sitting, for just about 15 minutes, wondering all that time what the Hell is going on with these cops.  Then I see a Jacksonville Police car come to the intersection, then two motorcycle cops, then two more, and two more, then two cruisers.  Next I see three completely blacked-out SUVs with strobes flashing through the tint in the windows, and I'm like "what the Hell is going on?  Then comes the Palin luxury touring coach, followed by another four police units.

So, the woman who proclaims her status as an average person left real average people sitting at an intersection, during rush hour, for at least 15 minutes so she could get to a book signing with her luxury bus.  I've seen Governor Bush's and Crist's motorcades, and I've never seen the blacked-out SUVs, so they must be travelling with the bus.

I can't speak for all the average people out there, but I know I don't have a $500,000 bus, or special security details driving Secret Service-wannabe SUVs, and am able to take up the time of about a dozen police officers to get to a business event.  I guess there's a secret handshake going on somewhere?

→ That's right Zilla

There's absolutely no possibility the presence of that motorcade brought ANY money to the local economy, if even for a day.

Doubtless, eating establishments and hotels were completely vacant.

Not a chance local bookstores were a little bit busier.

Sorry you were inconvenienced.  I was similarly "inconvenienced several years back as I drove through a town of 6,000 people that had swelled to thrice its size for a parade involving George Bush Sr.

As often as I've driven that road, that trip was the most memorable.  Sorry you lost 15 minutes of your life.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Actually, I was told by a

Actually, I was told by a co-worker that there was a hundred or so people lining Wells Rd earlier, but they must have all gone into the bookstore by then as the only two people (aside from the cops) I saw on the sides of the street were a guy dressed as a cow holding the "Eat More Chickin" sign and his handler.

I'm guessing the bookstore was busier, but she was there an hour before the mall opened, and before anything but a Burger King and a Chick-Fil-A are open, so I doubt she brought much business in. :)

→ Yeah, that must be it!

Not a chance a mall benefits from a visit from a celebrity, is there.

Are you kidding!!!  Have you never heard of LOSS LEADERS?

Every year the big stores advertise something outrageous like an X-Box for $20 (while supplies last), and the place is deluged with people.

Certainly, you don't believe those big stores come out on the losing end of the day's transactions because they put specific items out there to draw people in?

OK, I'll admit, "Certainly" is outlandishly presumptuous of me.

I've already challenged you to enumerate one stand Palin has taken (you can count that high, can't you?) with which you disagree.

You're certainly free to decide whether you believe she's Presidential material.  I'm not so sure she is either, but your argument against her is every bit as shallow as any I've encountered thus farly.

Even I can name one.  I thought she was wrong in not following with her "let the market decide" inclination on TARP.  She should have respectfully disagreed with the Bush/Obama/McCain cabal, and have proven herself more credible.

Now, I think 15 minutes is a bit of a nothing.

Reasons for Dithering

The Bamster is likely dithering because secret negotiations are going on with the Taleban and al Qaeda. Because they know he is under pressure to make a decision, they have the upper hand:

Might This Explain the Dithering? http://wizbangblog.com

"An Afghan source in Kabul reports that U.S. Ambassador in Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry is holding secret talks with Taliban elements headed by the movement's foreign minister, Ahmad Mutawakil, at a secret location in Kabul. According to the source, the U.S. has offered the Taliban control of the Kandahar, Helmand, Oruzgan, Kunar and Nuristan provinces in return for a halt to the Taliban missile attacks on U.S. bases."

Obama Administration in Secret Talks With Taleban: http://prairiepundit.blogspot.com

"The indirect talks involve officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Britain, and top Afghan Taliban leadership, including the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen Chief and Abdullah Anus, among others."

The Bamster may be a bigger fool than anyone could have imagined. How would history have remembered FDR had he pursued an armistice with Germany during the Battle of the Bulge?
