For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Hasan tried to contact al Qaeda over two months ago.

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News...

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

Someone dropped the ball on this one.

Political Correctness?

So did the agency fail to inform the military of a traitor in their midst or did the military fail to act on that information? Or did a covert op "blow up" before it brought results? SOMEONE screwed the pooch big time!

On WABC last night, host

On WABC last night, host John Batcheler noted that the leader of Hasan's mosque has been on "watch" by the US for quite a while and is suspected of being connected directly to Al Qaeda.

Picture of Hasan is getting clearer by the second,

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Spookmaster Panetta obfuscating

"One senior lawmaker said the CIA had, so far, refused to brief the intelligence committees on what, if any, knowledge they had about Hasan's efforts.

CIA director Leon Panetta and the Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, have been asked by Congress "to preserve" all documents and intelligence files that relate to Hasan, according to the lawmaker."

So Congress has to publicly call out our own CIA Director and warn him to stay away from the shredder.

This should scare the crap of everybody, including our resident islam apologists at NB.

SoL... Very, very

SoL... Very, very interesting. So there is a record and the CIA refuses to talk to the Int committee about it. This case is getting even stranger. The big question now is: who else is involved? Who is the CIA trying to protect?

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Cel:

Thanks to Pelosi, Panetta's CIA and Congress are on excellent terms, so I don't know what the problem could possibly be.

/s

I wonder

If Hasan may have got wind of being under surveillance, maybe that stepped up his attack?

Yes it is.  Just glad the b@stard didn't die.  No 72 virgins for you Hasan.  You will have to face our justice!

Nope, no virgins for Hasan

Just the highly accurate mother of two.

Ever hear this one?

So Osama Bin Laden expires in a cave in Pakistan, and goes to the Pearly Gates expecting to be greeted by 71 dark-haired virgins. Instead, George Washington appears in front of him, says "How dare you defile that which we shed so much blood to create," and proceeds to issue a full scale Continental beat-down on Osama.

70 other members of the Continental Congress emerge and each start wailing on Osama. He screams "WHAT IS THIS? WHERE ARE MY VIRGINS?!"

George Washington grins and replies "71 VIRGINIANS YOU AS***LE!"

 Always makes me smile.

Where the PC infection begins

My old man and I were discussing this last night; between us we have 37 years of military experience.  We both came to the conclusion that the problem is not that the military is politicaly correct, but being that it IS controlled by a civilian government, as appropriate for a country with a representative democracy, the leadership of the military is beholden to those who ARE politically correct, and thus will begin to reflect this.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

I think a lot of it is also

I think a lot of it is also that we've been largely a peacetime military for close to 50 years.  During that time, there was no real military action to use to gain experience from and make a name for yourself with.  Absent combat, promotions were largely based on who followed the rules the best without causing any problems.

Most of the senior leadership in the military today are guys who went up the chain of command not because of their bravery or conduct under fire, but because of their steadfast administrative qualities.  It should not be a surpise that given the choice between rocking the boat by pointing out a problem child, or quietly transferring him to a new unit so he could be someone else's problem, they chose the later of the two.

(shakes head)

I think a lot of it is also that we've been largely a peacetime military for close to 50 years.  You have seriously advertised your ignorance of history with this one sentence.  The Air Force have been constantly involved in military operations for the past 20 years.  This is just leaving out Vietnam, which occurred within that time frame.  While you may be correct that, say, there weren't many Army generals with CIBs and other such indicators of having faced combat (and that is speculation on my part as admittedly I do not have the answer to that question), to say that the military has been largely at peace over the past 50 years is simply not accurate.

This points to something else: the firing of General MacArthur in 1951.  The lesson the military took home from that was to simply shut up.  This is why few officers are willing to criticize policies even in the most constructive, positive manner, IMHO.

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

Fail. Fail.Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail. Fail

That was one thought you should have kept to yourself or maybe researched a little.

Not only do we have the best equipped, best trained fighting force in the world with cutting edge (until Obama) technology at their fingertips but they are experienced.

Did you forget the 2 fronts we are involved in now? Might not be in the news an awful lot, but there is lots of military action from which to gain experience.

50 years? That brings us back to 1959. Vietnam. Libya. Grenada. Haiti. Panama. Somalia. Gulf War I. We also learned from failures during those years. And. And. And. You don't learn from your wars only. You watch and learn from others. We took lessons from the Falklands war and Israels occasional excursions too.

I see quite a few good Generals out there. But then I pay attention.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

And in another bow to political correctness....

General George Casey Jr., the Army chief of staff, said on the Sunday shows that he is "very concerned."

About what, you ask?

That this could happen on a military base?

That this may happen again?

Nope.

He is concerned about bias against Muslims.

“It would be a shame — as great a tragedy as this was — it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.”

It would be interesting to hear how folks like....

....MacArthur, Marshall, and Patton would respond to this situation.

Someone dropped the ball?

Someone dropped the ball?  Nobody even picked up the ball.

Anyone still think Obama is just another American?  We have a jihadist in the whitehouse - and a marxist-socialist to boot.

We are going to have to arm ourselves and fight back against Big Brother.

I will NOT join the government's health-care program.  I'll go to jail first.

"Sic semper tyrannis!"

Doubt

I doubt we will ever get to the bottom of this but IF we do the person(s) involved in not taking this to the max should be fired/court martialed and if criminal negligence is proven, imprisioned for the rest of their lives..harsh you say? yeah, but no harsher than the unwilling punishment/death sentences summarily imposed on all the victims at the hands of idiots in the morally bankrupt, corrupt and inept government.

If I could trade that scum Hasan's life to find out, punish through imprisionment or if found guilty of treason, death ALL of those invovled in this fiasco and others that are simmering at the boiling point then I would gladly let this guy be stripped of his citizenship and let go in some god forsaken country, never to return but since that ain't happening I'll settle for the few heads we can find including Hasan's own.

9.11.1989 (or 11-9-1989 for you Americans)

I posted this elsewhere, but looking at the calendar, it bears repeating once more.

On Thursday, November 9, 1989, I returned home from school on an overcast day and walked the short distance home.  I walked in, threw a frozen pizza in the oven, and got the JROTC uniform ready for a night of high school football, and then flipped on CNN.

The following was heard: something to the effect of "The East German government has opened the border between East and West Berlin."  To which I laughed and said "They can't do that?  Why would they?  Because if they opened the border between East and West Berlin, then what's the point of having the--"

After the football game, I had a late night in front of the TV.

How CNN reported 9 Nov 1989

I was but a naive teenager at the time.  I cared about events such as this because of my being an Army brat and because I had been to the Wall.  I wouldn't be convinced of a Leftist tinge to the media for some time yet, until my early 20s, when I abandoned ABC World News Tonight and Newsweak.  So I could not answer that question.

However, I think our friends here at the MRC would very much have the answer to that question.

Another Obama Accomplishment!

He can now list: Allowed another "man-caused-disaster" on US soil  to his distinguished list of accomplishments.

If the FBI knew and/or the Army knew and did nothing, Obama owns it.  Of course, since this took place in Texas, he will probably imply that Bush is at fault.

McChrystal's troop request became public and Obama fully displayed the magnitude of his incompetence on September 21.  The blood of every US casualty since that date is on Obama's hands.  Now he can add 12 more.  Way to go Hussain.

Obama's administration is a Man-Caused Disaster.

asleep at the wheel

What I haven't seen anyone say just yet is how this guy was a sleeper agent.  In fact, some stuff I saw on the news is similar to the guys who flew the planes into WTC, Hasan spent some time in a strip bar prior to all this, had some beer, and so on.  The WTC guys did something similar, at least by James Woods' account of how they looked out of place, had alcohol, etc.(granted, no strippers on the plane but definitely not in their 'normal' element)

All this stuff "he's a nice guy, never would have guessed, didn't know him, yadda yadda" also screams sleeper agent.  But people continue to make excuses for the guy?

This was a test run.

-Jon

jon.....no kidding

I just posted this on Mark's blog, but it fits even better here, so, I'll paste it (originally I titled it "Man Made Disaster":

Latest news is that Hasan was trying to contact the radical imam from his former mosque who has a jihadi website based out of Yemen, a man with Al-Q ties.  Nice, huh?

Janet Reno's going to have a hard time spinning this one.  She's going to need a shovel for this cover-up of the failure of HER Homeland security agency dragging its feet.  Watch, though, as this administration tries to pin the tail on the DoD for Hasan's murderous rampage.

Disgusting.  Congress will have hearings, while retiring a couple of good generals, for the failures of the government's incessant political correctness policies in the military.  Do you think anyone in this terrorist's chain of command wanted to get involved in a "racial" imbroglio of reporting his demented behaviour?  Which officer would put his career on the line, knowing the pre-ordained outcome of reporting Hasan?  His OER's should have been enough to get him tossed, but he is a special minority.....no criticism desired or entertained (is that the correct phrase, BD?).

Political correctness may just kill us all.

I hope he fails, too.

Janet ...

Napolitano?

You might not be too far

You might not be too far off.  Everyone remembers 9/11, but few remember Egypt Air flight 990.  For those who have forgotten, this was the flight where the co-pilot, for no descernable reason, fought with the pilot for control of the aircraft and purposefully crashed it into the Atlantic, killing everyone on board while praising Allah all the way down.  It was two weeks after that crash that Mohammed Atta left for Germany and started executing the plans for 9/11.

As far as I can tell, the crash of 990 was a proof-of-concept that Al Qaeda planners wanted to have to see if a man could be trusted to kill himself and a bunch of innocents at their behest.  Once the test showed a follower would carry out the plan, Atta got the green light for the 9/11 operation.  So I wouldn't be surprised to see this guy being a proof-of-concept as well.

That's right

I thought about that one yesterday also. The fellow shouted allah whatever before he murdered them.
The media seems to think it an innocuous phrase... I think I'll stand up in a crowded theater and yell it just to see what happens.

The dilemma of surveillance

Why are you following me and monitoring my calls? You think I'm a threat because my name is different and I look like [insert demographic group]? You're violating my rights. I can associate with anyone I choose. I can attend any [church, mosque, synagogue, etc.] I want. You're keeping records of what I do? You can't do that! That's Big Brother.

Result: Charges of racially- or ethnically-motivated, and thus biased, police enforcement.

You had information he was doing this for two years? Why didn't you do something? Look at him, he's got to be a [name of bad group]! It's not "profiling" if you're right, right? I mean, he's contacted [group] and [group], and he even attended the [church, synagogue, mosque] and listened to the anti-American rantings of his [preacher, rabbi, imam]!*

Result: Columbine, Virginia Tech, Ft. Hood, Oklahoma City, 9/11 itself.

That's the dilemma: Open society that scrupulously protects citizens from the snooping of the government, and gets hit with the occasional mass assault; or the vigorous governmental snooping that catches a few very bad guys and many more idiots, thrill-seekers, and wannabes.

enjoyed him correcting BO'R by giving a more accurate analogy.  Usually BO'R gets huffy if someone does that, many times cutting them short, but he let Bernie continue tonight.  Bernie is ONE WISE MAN!

This comment comes from a proud Tea Party attendee, otherwise designated by Homeland Security as a Domestic Right Wing Terrorist!  And now by our president as a 'swiftboater' - both titles I'll wear proudly!     It is no dishonor to be in a minority in the cause of liberty and virtue ~ Sam Adams

It was a blast listening to Bernie tonight for a change.... without Blowhard interrupting as much as he usually does...

He must have had tons of emails/posts to him about this from the past shows...not just Bernie's segments either.
