Geaux Saints
October 18, 2009 - 11:45 ET by nwahsHopefully the offense will come back to life this week. I think they're going to need it.
But I think you're right, if both teams play like they've been playing, this game will be great.
I'm glad that NB didn't boycott this thread :)

October 18, 2009 - 12:56 ET by Cool ArrowWho are these guys? Are those rely the Giants getting their butts kicked?

October 18, 2009 - 14:13 ET by nwahsThe special teams are still the weak link. This game would be a blowout if special teams could tackle.
Well shawn
October 18, 2009 - 14:20 ET by Rukus34-17 against the "#1 defense" in the NFL is pretty much a blow-out IMHO. : )

October 18, 2009 - 14:28 ET by nwahsBut thats shows you how off statisitcs are. The Jets defense was much tougher than this, unless the Giants are having a very, very, very, bad day!
41-17 now - Go Saints!

October 18, 2009 - 12:05 ET by ricklailFor no better games than we are getting on our local Fox or CBS affiliates I just as well stop watching. I am not watching today. I usually go to bed at 9 so I don't watch Sunday or Monday football.

October 18, 2009 - 11:31 ET by ricklailCrummy game of the week-you pick-em. Panthers/Bucs, Chiefs/Deadskins, Rams/Jaguars. We’ll have to endure the Panthers. I image so will Dave because the Falcons are on tonight. CBS is showing the Chiefs/Deadskins. I don’t guess I’ll be watching football today. SyFy has the Children of the Corn series on this afternoon.
Giants/Saints, Ravens/Vikings will be the best but I won’t get to see them.
Enjoy your NFL games because I sure won’t.
Dodgers/Philles game 3. Go Dodgers and stay warm.

The two-hand-touch league
October 18, 2009 - 11:37 ET by BKeyserNow, prior to the events of this week, I've been a big fan of the NFL. I have to say though, that much like one of my other favorite sports -NASCAR- the NFL is making too many rule changes year-after-year to the detriment of the spirit of the competition.
In NASCAR, the COT and the Chase are awful, IMO. They've created a vehicle that has so much parity, there's very little passing -hence, excitment- with the guy fortunate enough to be out front remaining there for unbearably long stretches. The Chase effectively eliminates 72% of the field for the final 28% of the season. Sorry, I don't like it. Go back to open-faced helmets, drivers smoking cigarettes while they race and signboards for communication. Well, maybe not that far back, but back.
The NFL does the same thing as far as rule changes. Every year the rules committee meets to discuss the rule du jour because some owner's got some gripe. They've taken away much of what a strong defence can do, and as a Ravens fan, that hurts. The pass interfence rules are ridiculously tilted toward the offense, and the "Brady Rule" is an utter disgrace. My one and only NFL photoshop documents the evolution of the Brady Rule.
My apologies to Patriots fans.
Ha ha ha
October 18, 2009 - 12:26 ET by BlondeI hope this doesn't catch on in college ball.

I hope he fails, too.
NFL
October 18, 2009 - 11:41 ET by txfella65Until WE recieve an apology from Roger I am boycotting the NFL. An undeserved attack on Rush is an attack on ME. The NFL has been PC wussified, and they need to to decide just who their fan base is. NewsBusters would do well to follow suit and NOT AID an organization which insults it's very supporters.
Go Vikings!

To hell with the NFL. I'll
October 18, 2009 - 12:54 ET by ConservativeRexTo hell with the NFL. I'll stick with HS and college football. I know I am not going to make a dent in the NFL viewership, but a few million that think like me will. Not one of these owners stood up for Rush. Well guess what, that's exactly how the owners and most of the players think of most of the folks here on NB. So keep at it, keep watching 'em. I'm done being played for a sucker by the NFL.

So far so good
October 18, 2009 - 13:52 ET by ricklailIt is probably after half of most games. So far I haven't watched any. I did watch some of Fox's pre-gmae but look this is an addiction I must over come by myself. Getting tired of watching CSI reruns and Children of the Corn V and IV.

He took over Buddy D's old show
October 18, 2009 - 17:35 ET by nwahsHe took over "The Point After" on WWL. Before he was the host, Buddy Diliberto (Buddy D) was the host , and before that, Hap Glaudie. Remember those days? :)
Who'd have ever thought Bobby Hebert could have gotten a job in radio with his thick Cajun accent. It used to take receivers half a season just to figure out what he was saying in the huddle :)
Is Buddy still around?

Nah, he passed away
October 18, 2009 - 18:36 ET by nwahsBuddy passed away of a sudden heart attack (if I remember right) in 2005.
You're right about his speech though. I hadn't though about that. And if you think about it, Hap Glaudi didn't have a radio voice either. He had the thick uptown accent ( New Aw-yuns).
Maybe its a requirement for "The Point After" :)

2. Alabama (9)
3. Texas (1)
It doesn't really matter at this point. All 3 of these teams got a serious wake-up call yesterday (my Gators moreso than the others, perhaps). I truly hope we all remain undefeated. Of course, Boise St., Iowa, TCU, and Cincinnati are undefeated as well.
Interesting times....and after this Rush debacle, I hope the NFL die-hards (are you listening Shawn) transfer their allegiances to the college team of their choice. Much more fun.

October 18, 2009 - 13:50 ET by redmikeI'm switching to Aussie Rules Football until Rush has a team. Baseball lost me years ago with the player strikes and I never went back. Maybe the NFL has lost me too. I'd go do some yard work if it wasn't for the freaking cold global warming.

Broncos
October 18, 2009 - 22:13 ET by UnsaneThe Saints are for real. I managed to see the first quarter today (working on Sunday). They put together two awesome drives - I especially liked the first one that took up more than half the quarter. When you have ball control like that, and a defense like what they have...
But anyways, on to more important things. Like my wanting to see that PUNK Philip Rivers's face buried in the dirt after repeated sacks by the Broncos tomorrow night. If the Broncos get that game in San Diego against the Bolts, they will be in the driver's seat for that division. Beating up on the Cowboys and the Pats was fun. Now it is time to kick some AFC West ASS!!!
