For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Tea Party protesters complicate the GOP's comeback attempt.

The rise of conservative "tea party" activists around the country has created a dilemma for Republicans. They are breathing life into the party's quest to regain power. But they're also waging war on some candidates hand-picked by GOP leaders as the most likely to win.

In upstate New York, Dede Scozzafava, 49 years old, is the choice of local party leaders to defend a Republican seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, an abortion-rights candidate who could appeal to independents. Doug Hoffman, 59, is a local accountant backed by tea-party activists who has jumped into the race declaring himself the real conservative.

Should Republicans distance themselves from the Tea Parties out of pragmatism, or stay true to the grassroots and risk losing their shot at a 2010 comeback?

I think it's perfectly acceptable for Conservatives to take over the Republican Party.

We certainly don't need two Liberal parties, do we?

If voters have to choose

If voters have to choose between a Democrat and a Democrat-lite, the Democrat will win, ie Obama vs. McCain.

Thank goodness for Palin because the margin of loss would've been much higher without her.

"they're also waging war on

"they're also waging war on some candidates hand-picked by GOP leaders"

God love the real conservatives.

"as the most likely to win"

Highly questionable.

Sure. I hope this double-handed il cornuto was just an accident though. http://i38.tinypic.c...

The media truly hates her, but then the media truly hated Bush, and it didn't mean he was right like Reagan.

Oh, and throw out Evangelicals and Orthodox Jews while you're at it. There, now go win an election with those "moderates" and "indepedents."

It shouldn't even be a question, really. It's assuming (wrongly…and stupidly) that all independents support abortion "rights." They don't.

But the Republicans love to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, so I wouldn't be surprised by what idiocy they pursue. That's why I'm a conservative, not a Republican.

"...hand-picked by GOP

"...hand-picked by GOP leaders as the most likely to win."

THIS IS THE KEY PROBLEM!!!  GOP LEADERS WAKE UP!

You do not pick our candidates, WE do!  The people who show up at the caucuses and the townhalls.  WE are the party, NOT YOU!!!

You forced John McCain on us.  You gave us Nixon, Ford, Dole, Bush I, and Bush II.  The only reason you allowed us to nominate Reagan is because you had no choice.

The GOP had better wake up soon, because if they stick us with a bunch of Lindsay Grahams and Arlen (Dem) Specters, they are going to get hammered again - and it will be the whole country that will suffer for it.

RINOs need to be made extinct - otherwise the country's doomed.

I agree, matt...this is

I agree, matt...this is just another attempt by  liberals to convince Republicans that the only way they can win is by being more like Democrats!!

and they will probably fall for it!

Has the GOP learned nothing from the McCain debacle??

Why Republican leaders fight YOU

Republican leaders fight you because power corrupts, and they cannot see straight any longer.

DC was never meant to rule the states (or the world). Read the 10th amendment. The founders knew this kind of corruption would happen, and gave us the 10th amendment to prohibit centralization of all power.

Their total denial of limitations on their power is why the two parties look so much alike. The country is upside-down, and the powerholders are a lost cause.

  • It's not that they think they'll win by imitating liberals.
  • It's not that they "have no backbone".

They have near absolute power, and are now absolutely corrupt.

They feed you B.S. about wanting less government only to get your support.

By suggesting that tea partiers should be cast out, this web site shows its allegiance to party over country.

I think you missed the discussion point.

"By suggesting that tea partiers should be cast out, this web site shows its allegiance to party over country. "

That's not at all what this site is suggesting. It's a talking point about what the Republicans should or should not be doing.

Clarity.

Exactly

On the very day that Charley Crist announced his bid for the Florida Senate seat vacated (early) by Mel Martinez, the Senate Republican Committee endorsed the RINO.

I am calling FOUL!  Not only did Crist get to appoint the interim seat holder, he got a huge leg up over the Fine Young Conservative, Marco Rubio.  Rubio is winning all of the straw votes at this point, but with the big money Republicans behind Crist....it is going to be a close run thing.

So, GOP.....stay out of my state's politics at the primary level.  Just stay the hell out.  Are you listening Michael?

I hope he fails, too.

In fact, his previous girlfriend (prior to his new wife aka "beard") was quoted as saying when asked about his sexuality after they broke:  "Call me in ten years and I'll tell you a story".

If you have HBO, watch the Documentary, OUTRAGE.  It essentially outs a whole host of closeted gay politicians, such as Crist, who fight for rabidly anti-gay legislation.

"Should Republicans

"Should Republicans distance themselves from the Tea Parties out of
pragmatism, or stay true to the grassroots and risk losing their shot
at a 2010 comeback?"

A false dichotomy.  In fact, our chances of winning back the country from the commies in the current administration are better, the more conservative the Republican Party becomes.  The American people are conservative by nature, and the Party that appeals to them on that level will succeed.  Trying to be "Dem lite" has been a disaster for the Republican Party.

Perspective. How bad were these protestors?

How bad were they? What is there to distance from?

Maybe this might give Republicans some perspective on what kind protestors need distancing.

1968: May 25—First campus protest against ROTC is held at Michigan State University in East Lansing by pacifists during ROTC Field Days.

December—Students for a Democratic Society (SDS, a radical left-wing student group) conference in Ann Arbor, Mich., plans its campaign to “crush Rotsee.”

1969: Feb. 3—Harvard University faculty votes to deny credit for ROTC courses and to deny ROTC officers recognition as members of the faculty.

—Yale in New Haven, Conn., follows suit, with a biology professor declaring that “much of the philosophy of the military runs counter to that of the university, and besides, low-level trade-school courses have no place at Yale.”

Late February—1,000 students protest ROTC at the State University of New York in Buffalo. Yippie leader Jerry Rubin eggs protestors on by waving a Viet Cong (VC) flag.

April 9—SDS torches a Marine Corps classroom at Harvard. Demanding an end to ROTC, 40 SDS members take over the religion lounge at nearby Northeastern University, but are forced to flee by 2,000 pro-ROTC students.

April 15—Thousands of students march on the University of California—Berkeley’s ROTC building, sparking a five-hour battle with police.

May 6—SDS sets fire to the ground floor of the ROTC building at Harvard.

—Student mobs torch the ROTC building and physically attack cadets at Stanford University in California.

Oct. 15—100 SDS members ransack the Air Force ROTC office at Buffalo, burning its files and books. At Kent State University in Ohio, SDS members run alongside cadets, screaming, “Kill, Kill, Kill!” Harvard’s student newspaper, Crimson, comes out in favor of a Viet Cong victory.

1970: Feb. 26—1,000 students attack ROTC offices on the Buffalo campus.

February—SDS raids an ROTC dance at Pennsylvania State University in University Park.

March 12—Students ignite a bonfire in front of the ROTC building at Buffalo. Chanting “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh—NLF is Gonna Win!” they burn a U.S. flag.

March/April—SDS firebombs the ROTC building at the University of Colorado—Boulder.

April—Ohio State University at Columbus is wracked by violent confrontations over ROTC.

April 30—Students firebomb ROTC buildings at Maryland, Michigan State, Washington, Wisconsin and Yale universities.

May—This month witnesses the greatest display of campus violence in U.S. history. During the first week of May alone, ROTC buildings explode or ignite at the rate of more than four a day.

—Students launch a “hit-and-run” attack on the ROTC building at the University of Maryland in College Park.

May 2—1,000 students set fire to the ROTC building at Kent State. Torching it a second time that night, it is destroyed. They slash fire hoses and throw rocks at firefighters. Kent State is a prime target because it hosts the Liquid Crystal Institute, a research facility tied to military projects.

May 6—Students firebomb ROTC offices on the Buffalo campus.

Aug. 24—Four student radicals bomb Sterling Hall, housing the U.S. Army’s Mathematics Research Center at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, killing a physics researcher.

1970-71 Academic Year: 110 campus incidents against the ROTC occur compared to 400 in 1969-70—“the school year that was one of guerrilla and psychological warfare against the presence of military men on campus,” says U.S. News.

1972: April 17—3,000 students march on the ROTC building at the University of Wisconsin, smearing blood on its walls.

April—Demonstrators attack ROTC offices at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

—800 students occupy the new ROTC building at Kent State.

May 9: Students firebomb various ROTC buildings on campus.

1972-1973 Academic Year: only 60,395 students are enrolled in ROTC. Vietnam War ends for U.S.

It is the GOP that is

It is the GOP that is becoming a non-entity.  We have had our fill of RINO, we have had our fill of Mccainites.  The GOP had better pay attention to who is paying the freight in this country. We will not accept RINO, Rockefeller Republicans, Moderate Republicans any more!!! These idiots are about to snatch defeat right from the jaws of victory.  If this happens, a third party is the obvious alternative.  I have never been an advocate of third party's, but we will be left with no choice.  As the Republicans sprang from the WHIGS, another, brighter, party may just spring from a decrepit, stodgy, Republican party.

Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

and the fight is on

I knew it would only be a matter of time before the RINO establishment in the beltway struck back.

You all had your chance. John McCain was supposed to be a winnable candidate because he could attract moderates, and how did that work out for you? Arlen Spector? Olympia Snowe? If I'm going to end up with government healthcare and liberal judges either way, what's the point of voting?

And aside from that, you can't give us credit for "breathing life" into your party and then simultaneously say we are a hindrance.

Tell you what. You go off with Schwarzenegger and your Sierra Club friends, take your little copies of the Weekly Standard, and you revive the Republican party without us. Then we'll see who really needs whom more. Those moderate voters aren't known for donating money, showing up at rallies, or scrapping for you on the blogs.

Without the work of sites this like, or the research done by Fox News, ACORN would still be working on the census and the first healthcare bill would have passed in August. What were you guys busy doing all summer? Twiddling your thumbs.

Conservatives, gird your loins, because this is the beginning. We're not in a fight strictly against Democrats. We're fighting the swamp in DC, and that means confronting some Republicans too.

Remember back in the spring of 2008. Remember the frustration of watching McCain steal the GOP nod. Remember that feeling in your gut that the powers that be in your party were working against you. Remember feeling powerless that they were going to get what they wanted regardless. That same machine is getting to work once more. Don't get caught by surprise this time.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

This marks the end of the RINO party

The sooner the Republicans learn that the conservatives have had enough, the better off they will be. Enough RINOs! If they really think that they must operate on the Dem-lite platform, they will not gain anything in 2010. The ONLY way they will succeed is by listening to and responding to the tea partyers.

"...stay true to the grassroots and risk losing their shot at a 2010 comeback?"

This statement is so-o-o-o wrong. IF they do NOT stay true to the grassroots they WILL lose their shot at a comback.

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

The 'party' consistently

chooses losers to run for office.

Led by the nose, the republican party chose John McKainnedy to run for President.  They chose well in this instance because the loser lost.

That was who the leftist media wanted and the party 'leaders' cowered in fear of negative press, opting for another loss of the Presidency instead.

The republican party can die in its sleep any time now.  It's dead from the top down anyway.

Amen..you nailed it..

Amen..you nailed it..

You are right and you are wrong

You are right and you are wrong at the same time. The Republican Party is out of touch is true enough. We need conservative candidates in order to win, true enough. The problem is that we cannot be divided. This is how the Democrats win most of the time. We will argue over who is the best candidate who most matches our political ideals and then a United Democrat front takes the election. This is the very real danger. A third party is not a real working option because it divides us again, it is how Clinton got Elected the first time, remember.

We need to be able to re-form the Party from within somehow. If enough people communicate with the Party Apparatus and can raise enough issues before the primaries it might be possible for better Candidates to be selected.

The only way, without the Party support we can succeed is if a Majority of Americans join us but the reality is much different. At least 25% to 30% will vote along Party lines no-matter what the ticket. The mushy middle has always decided elections. You cannot change the minds of true believers. The problem we face is that in the Republican Party we are dividing what should be the base, the true believers. Once that happens it takes ALL of the remaining voters that can be swayed to win an election. That really can never happen.

We need a New Leader to rise up, within the Party, such as Reagan did, in order to not only win elections but to re-define the Party. It has happened before, and will happen again. I wish this were not true. I wish we could throw all the bums out, the lot of them. Reality says otherwise, at present. The Majority of Americans have to be behind a unified choice in order to win and the more we divide the less chance we have.

I have no real solutions and this is what frustrates us. It is why we have lost our voice. It is why some of the Founding Fathers were against Political Parties but there is no real practical way to organize and have a large enough voice without them. The Political Parties are The Problem and they are also the only possible solution. Now that my friends is a real paradox.

quick question, rick

If enough people communicate with the Party Apparatus and can raise enough issues before the primaries it might be possible for better Candidates to be selected.

We've been trying to communicate with the party apparatus for years, and this is the thanks we get. You talk about true believers, the RINOs are true believers. They want liberal Republicans in DC. They don't care about conservative opinions.

After their epic defeat last November and the anger they've seen in town halls, they're still clueless. They're gearing up for 2010 and this the side they've chosen.

News flash, there is no more Regan. Palin was sabeutaged, Romney was mocked for being Mormon by his own party, and Michelle Bachmann is treated like the retarded step sister.

They. don't. want. Reagan.

They. don't. want. to. win!

It's hard to garner sympathy for winners.

But ahhhh, sympathy for the losers is easy to get.

Look at history, they run with the intention of losing, they lose, and the whining and gnashing of teeth ensues and we get our mailboxes flooded with 'questionaires' asking for our opinions and finally, money to fund another round of loser candidates.

Here's a clue mr steele, get some candidates that are willing to run on the platform you put out as a questionaire, fund them just to see if they can get a few more votes.

Between now and then, stop trying to get me to feel sorry for your losing election after election.

Re Third Party

Agreed. The only path to victory I can foresee for the Bamster in 2012 is if conservatives throw up a third-party candidate for President. Third party candidates for President come in third and guarantee the victory of the two-party candidate at the other end of the spectrum. We must also be on guard for third-party false-flag candidate put up by the Soros-Moonbat axis, Ross Perot style, simply to sabotage the right.

The way to a successful third party is from the ground up, at the House level, seat by seat. But it's even easier to simply take over the existing Republican Party structure because it is so weak and disorganized now. It's like the home choice of build or buy. The TEA movement should be working hard to find conservative candidates to run in primaries and open seats for 2010. They should run against RINOs in primaries, and against democratics in the general.

Those Rascally Republicans

Republicans in power now will be having no comeback.  They're all going to be voted out.

Those Republicans are free to do as they will as they are "RINOs" anyway, involved in politics for personal gain and glory - not the people.

Those Republicans that feel they should distance themselves from TEA Party proponents don't "get it" at all.

And those Republicans that so easily painted the entire TEA Party movement with the same brush used by the smarmy and hate-filled left, have ensured their removal from office come 2010 and 2012.

Couple things I find interesting about this topic...

First, RedState has been on this for weeks. The sentence: "In upstate New York, Dede Scozzafava, 49 years old, is the choice of local party leaders" should be followed by the text "and ACORN..." Click the tag "Dede Scozzafava" and you'll get a lengthy list of RedState posts on this second coming of Arlen Specter.

Second- the GOP is dying. Without the life-saving medicine only conservativism can provide, the Democrats will succeed in their abolishment of the Grand Old Party. That's part of what the rush of legislation is all about; create a climate of entitlement that the GOP, even if they return to temporary power, will be unable to rescind for fear of turning the vast majority of the on-the-take populous against them.

The fix? Well, I don't know- I don't have a degree in Political Science from Columbia like Mr. Bendavid of the WSJ. Though it certainly is refreshing to get another liberals view on the state of the GOP and conservative movement. /sarc/ All I know is the "Big Tent" better have a "Conservatives Only" sign at the door or you can bet the tent poles will bend and break very soon.

excellent line, BK!

Sarah Palin and the Tea

Sarah Palin and the Tea Party protesters have both breathed life back into the Republican party.  For the GOP leaders to ignore this is beyond stupidity.  The party needs to get back to its roots and those roots are conservative.  Anything else and they might as well put a liberal on the ballot.

The Obama Administration: THE most fiscally irresponsible Administration EVER

Both sides of this

Both sides of this discussion are missing a big point: the Tea Partiers are not just Republican.  Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and independents were at the Tea Parties.  Blacks, whites, hispanics, and asians were at the Tea Parties.  And if between 1 and 2 million people with jobs and responsibilities, who have never before attended a political protest, can make time away from their jobs and responsibilities to protest, then it seems to me that BOTH parties had better wise up, else they'll both find themselves out in the cold wondering what happened.

The GOP stands for nothing right now.  Its not the party of no its the party of "what can I do/sell to keep my job".   Congress is nothing but a bunch of feudal lords taking our money to use it to buy votes.

LA Fans?  You out there?  Do they let people from Cali join this site?

If so, hope you had a good time last night while the Phillies crushed your so-called ace pitcher.  They still won even despite the fact that they played terribly.  Not a good sign for the boys in blue.

One down.  My prediction of Phillies win in 6 games might be way too conservative.

As one who lives near

As one who lives near Philly, I think you might want to tone it down a bit Leondeux.  Philadlephia teams aren't known for their follow through, and you might be eating your words pretty soon.

Radical - We aren't talking

Radical - We aren't talking about Philadelphia teams in general.  We are talking about the Phillies.

Where were you last year?  You must have missed the World Series?

As for follow through, have you watched any of the playoffs this year?  Based on your statement, I would guess no.

I agree - tone it down

As another that lives close to Philly, I also say tone it down. Good grief, it is best of seven. Yes, the Phils won game one but the key word there is game one....

Yes, they won the World Series last year, and I hope they repeat, but when was the last time a team was able to repeat as World Champs? Very few teams are able to do that.

The pre-game show is on now, go watch it.

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

Is anything physically wrong with Hamels?  He's not nearly as sharp as last year, and, despite their hitting, I don't think the Phillies will be able to just pound the Dodgers/Yankees/Angels into submission.

new "Dad"

I really have no idea, but the only thing I can think is that he is a new Dad (born last week). Possible he was distracted the last couple of months by that? Not sure and it isn't an excuse, but I agree that he isn't as sharp as he was....

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

Jer - From what I've heard

Jer - From what I've heard it's a combination of things and it's fairly commong among pitchers like Hamels.  The team rode his back last year and used him often.  Plus they went late into the season winning the World Series so his time to recover in the off-season was significantly shorter.

I think the Phillies WILL be able to pound the Dodgers into submission and the game last night is a perfect example of that.  The pitching was weak and the Phillies played horribly, BUT they won by crushing the ball.  And they did the same thing to the Rockies.

Also keep in mind that Hamels is not their only weapon.  Pedro could bring heat and Cliff Lee is unbelievable.

The Phillies are winners and I think they've proven that last year, this entire season, and the last series in Colorado.  Those last two wins were epic.  In fact, the series winner against the Rockies was one of the best baseball games I've ever seen.

SouthJersey - I hear you

SouthJersey - I hear you but we finally have a team to be confident in and you can be sure I'll be confident.  The Rockies series was amazing.  These guys just don't give up.  Teams can't match their tenacity or their depth.

Just look at last night, when the Phils needed runs, Ruiz stepped up and blasted a 3 run homer.  Then Ibanez does the same thing when they needed it later in the game.

For me, Ryan Howard's double with 2 strikes and 2 outs against the Rockies showed the kind of heart the Phillies have.

I say have faith.  Don't be afraid.  The Phillies are winners of the highest order.

Nice pep talk, but well99

Nice pep talk, but well99 and I had faith in the Red Sox and Cardinals, respectively.  We both got broomed.  Btw, where is well99?

NJ election

I'm always amazed at how stupid some polititions are in the Republican party here in NJ. If they don't win the primary, they take their ball and go home! Christie is trying to hold off a democrat crook and a so called independant stooge being promoted by the democrat party. Either Loneghan must come out in support of Christie or Christie must ask Loneghan for his help. We here in NJ still have not figured out how the democrats keep winning here!

I agree, billb

I cannot believe it is dead even, at least polling-wise. CC had a double digit lead a month ago.

Corslime has been running the most vile, false-attacks ads I've seen in my entire life, even for NJ.

He'll squeak by because the NJ dems would vote for Satan himself over a Republican. Pitiful.

A vote for Daggett is a vote

A vote for Daggett is a vote for Corzine. Every election we hear about this noble effort to elect a third party candidate. STUPID STUPID STUPID. We'll all vote for a third party candidate when it's a guaranteed win. Not until!!!

Yup, in NJ the 3rd party

Yup, in NJ the 3rd party candidate ALWAYS screws the republican over.

Just got an email from Corzine: "I'm up 10 POINTS NOW!"

And as long as that mentality prevails nothing will change

It's not about the party. It's about the candidate.

If you vote for the lesser of two evils then you will always elect evil to office.

Any citizen should vote for the candidate who most closely shares their own views. If they don't know which candidate that is, they need to do some research. It used to be that the party affiliation told you mostly about a candidates general views. Not any more.

RINOs squeak by because the we would vote for Satan himself over a Democrat. Pitiful.

Corzine knows his voters

The idiot in Trenton knows that the intellegence of the voters in this state is low so he can spread flat out lies about Christie and no one will question it. The Camden/Newark welfare vote is hard to overcome. I hope CC can turn things around after Cor-swines ad campaign, but it isn't looking too good.

"Maybe if we keep our heads buried in the sand, this will blow over" - The Congressional Republicans

Corzine

The welfare vote is almost impossible to overcome.

See Jacktherippers tagline--

"The American Republic will endure, until the politicians find out they can bribe people with their own money."

The welfare situation is, and has been, the state of affairs for as long as I can remember.

I honestly do not foresee a change, EVER.

If that is the case, our Country is circling the drain even as I type this.

MD

Christie

He's falling because, like McCain, Christie is a completely uninspiring candidate.  This election was a golden opportunity to offer a clear choice between Big Government and Limited Government.  But we chickened out.  Too many of us were convinced that someone like Lonegan couldn't win a statewide office, even though he won multiple times in a heavily Democratic town.  Now we're left with a "choice" almost as bad as the New York City Mayoral election.

If you're not outraged at the media, you haven't been paying attention.

X

1) The remedy is NOT a third party.

2) The primaries are where your vote has the most influence, no matter what party you choose, vote against the encumbent.

3) NO money to DC. Be effective, sponser your choice; ie. Rubio in FL, Simcox in AZ etc.

F$%k the GOP, they only have a name, we are the people who can make the participants by voting against RINOs.

Using the Hoffman/Scozzafava

Using the Hoffman/Scozzafava example, I think shows ignorance of recent polling in the area.  Hoffman is more than a third-party candidate, he could very well win with 37% of the vote in that district.

Which, with Scozzafava's leftist appeal, could concievably happen -- two liberals and one conservative running in the same race; plus, when the special-election rules of politics are factored in (turnout is king), Hoffman stands a very good chance of winning that race.

Now,  when you pick up on the rumors that the RNC hasn't contributed a dime to the Scozzafava campaign -- and that they're desperate for money...

I don't know if the NRCC thought this far ahead on this game, but could this possibly be the NRCC splitting the opposition's votes with a ridiculously left-leaning candidate?  That'd be some serious strategic thinking, but if they DID...that'd be loads of fun :D

To Be Polite

The Repubicans should develop some 'nerve' and completely embrace the Tea Party's. But then again, the Republicans are just another side of the one party system in America. GW is a GLOBALIST who showed some restraint while trying to give away America's independence.

Dump the Republicans! Get a REAL group of people together (Like the Constitutionalists . .)

Show me just one single Republican willing to go before a camera and declare the Dictator and illegal and call for his impeachment!

Isaiah 5:20a Woe unto them who call evil good, and good evil. . .  KJV

 I love the Constitution

I love the Constitution Party.  It is everything the Republican Party should have been but is not.  Unless the Republicans put up a real conservative, I will not vote for them.  I would rather the country go quickly into communism than slowly where no one will notice the fence around them keeps getting smaller and smaller.

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they’d never expect it.

The problem is the Republican party

For years now (maybe decades) they have chosen to move to the left to try and win more races rather than stay true to their conservative roots. The result is that the democrats have moved to the left also and therefor the choice in many many districts is between a centrist / populist or a progressive / socialist.

Because of the 2008 elections and the obvious shift far to the left in the elected representatives, many many conservatives have woken up and realized that just because a candidate has an (R) after their name does not mean that they are really a conservative.

Whether or not we need a third pary is purely dependant on the republican party and if they decide they are conservatives first and politicians second. It is no shame to run as a conservative and be beaten by a progressive in many of the "blue states". There is shame (in my opinion) in running as a populist and calling yourself a conservative.

In my area I have decided that no incumbent will get my vote, regardless of their party affiliation. Only a true conservative will get my vote in the future regardless of what "party" they are affiliated with or, in the best case scenario, no party affiliation at all.

Throw 'da bums out!!!

no incumbent re-elected, with very few exceptions!

www.loyaltoliberty.com

Why are the RINOs sooo

Why are the RINOs sooo stupid?  Even the blue dog democrats kiss their bases ass!

Blue dogs will whore out to the dingbats.  If a gay tells a democrats to bend over, the democrat does it.  They'll go gay for gays.  They'll speak spanish, cross illegals through TJ, and screw over border patrol for the hispanic votes.  They'll curse their own ethnic background and piss on their white mothers grave for a black vote.

But the stinking RINOs won't work for the votes for the Republican base?  WTF is that?

There is no single Democrat that would turn down an invitation to a gay pride parade, not a single one.  They'll cross dress, give oral sex, they'll kiss their asses until their lips bleed.

Yet, a protest against government excess is just way too much for a Republican?  It's like the virus that the California GOP caught is spreading.  If the GOP wants any freaking chance in 2010, embrace the damn tea parties.  Make some noise.  Tell people you are tired as hell and aren't gonna take it anymore.

Hypocrisy Nonsense

I see nothing wrong or hypocritical in a Republican (or democratic) politician being gay, even if he or she opposes what liberals push as 'gay rights'.  I see nothing hypocritical in a gay Republican politician keeping his or her orientation to himself; that's the nature of conservatism. Why must a politician's sexual orientation be a part of their platform? Why is the group that considers themselves the party of oppressed minorities the ones that seem to want to use a 'gay detector' on politicians and will even send out private investigators to delve into someone's private life?

This is just another aspect of the liberals' plantation tactics. If you're a woman, they insist you must be a democratic. If you're black, you must be a democratic. Ditto lesbian, hispanic, union member, Jew, seniors, rapper, actor, disabled, etc.

Suggesting that a gay Republican politician must support so-called 'gay rights' pushes the hypocritical notion that they must thereby be a selfish one-issue voter. What if said politician is more concerned with budget deficits, or foreign affairs, or high taxes, than 'gay rights'?  Or even more relevant, perhaps conservatives don't believe that anyone in our society should have special rights, or be more equal than someone else. Isn't that also a conservative principle?

OK, it's time to wake up now...

..put down the kool-aid and walk away.

The question is: What makes Conservatism - conservative? If it's the preservation of our founding fathers' ideals, then nominating liberal leaning candidates is antithetical to Conservatism.

WARNING: Do so at your own peril Republicans!

Re FF

A newly downloaded browser is not encumbered by thousands of history entries, bookmarks, cookies and cache like the old one might be, so might not be a perfect comparison. I looked at my FF (3.0.14) history last week, only set for a few days of save, and it had 5,000 entries. I turned off history entirely and now FF runs noticeably faster. I don't think I've ever used history anyway.

The new 3.5 Firefox is supposed to be primarily a speed improvement over 3.0. Anyone tried it yet?
