I have noticed an interesting trend in the past 24 hours.  The trolls have disappeared....

They have all seemed to stay on the ground and not willing to come up for the argment.  What does this say?  Perhaps that they realize it is not a worthy fight to try and support the Nobel Committees awarding of the  that obviously un-earned honor to "The One."

The one "Trolling Event" that I could identify was a pair of drive-by's by Critical Thinking that put one in mind of the classic WWII air mission of "Pips" Priller over the invasion Beaches on D-Day.  Just a zip on through and keep moving....

Our own much vaunted Luftwaffe consisting of the latest incarnations of Leon, Hater, etc all seem to be sitting on the ground.

Come-on out guys, the flying weather is fine.

Oh we had a couple, BD

"watches" and a crash & burner, watcherkatt.  Hmmm.

Per a link on the OT yesterday by slickwillie, we suspect these trollsters may be part of Eric Holder's newest effort to combat conservatives, Obama's Shlock Hoodlems of Internet Trolling  (h/t Free Stinker).

As usual, there's only one response for these bridge dwellers, to wit:

We need a better class of troll, here. ©

I hope he fails, too.

I noticed the invasion by the trolls yesterday also. If they were sent by eric holder, and thats the best they have, it's no wonder the country is going to pot

Re Invasion

I hope some of the big sites like this one, Hotair, Pajamas, etc, do some IP sniffing to see where the trolls are coming from. They would not be so stupid (?) to use a WH or Justice domain, but they may be coming from the same one. They may also be working from home, which will be more difficult to detect.

Under President George W. Bush, this would have led to a Congressional investigation.

Krauthammer

I can't promote it enough: Krauthammer is a must read today.

Krauthammer gave a speech this week, and the text of it is available here. It's longer than the usual 750-word pundit article, but it repays patience.

I especially like his description of the deliberate neutering of American dominance, and the (pseudo-)intellectual basis for it as a policy. Wonderful.

This is a keeper. I printed it after I read it, because I really want to be able to study what the good doctor had to say.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Dr. Krauthammer should have his own program on Fox, during which he can just sit there and tell us stuff. Any topic, baseball to world conditions, I'll listen. Saturday evening at 7:00 PT [with a repeat at 10:00 PT] is vacant; why not then?

Flu Vaccine

It's starting already.  There are news stories of a shortage of the flu vaccine.  My 11 month old son had his first of two doses and his appointment for the second dose was cancelled because they ran out of the vaccine.  The last time there was a flu vaccine flap, Hillary Clinton was out in front of every microphone she could find saying "Bush fell asleep at the switch."  I wonder how she'll react to it this time.  Probably still Bush's fault?

Rot from the top

It's only a prelude to Gov-controlled health care. Shortages. Incompetance. Total lack of planning. No one in charge; no one responsible. Un responsiveness.

Very predictable. Un-reported by the MSM. Not understood by misguided Dims. Well understood by Dim leaders, though. Incompetance is what keeps them in power.

Good point.

I've heard, though, for those of us who were around for the last Swine Flu epidemic (i.e. over 35)....a regular flu shot ought to provide sufficient protection.

Regular flu shot for me.

Although I have to say, with all the hoopla, I'm alot more careful out in public, now.  Hand sanitizer and all that.  Which is probably a good thing.

I hope he fails, too.

Had regular shot,too

I am leery of the H1N1 with the adjuvents (boosters), two v one shot, mist v shot, thimerisol, etc. What is up with the Canadian study (unpublished) that says if you have the seasonal shot, you have twice as much of a chance of getting H1N1?. Not sure I buy that one! Ack! Reading all these threads is making me feel a little...unwell.

StarAZ: There is a great

StarAZ:

There is a great deal of information floating around the internet, and, the information evolves on a weekly basis.  The best site for up to date and unadulterated information is from the CDC.  The site gets technical, but, consulting your physician will help in better understanding what's happening.

Addressing your concerns:

  • None of the approved influenza A 2009 (H1N1) monovalent vaccines or seasonal influenza vaccines contains adjuvants (1--5).
  • Number of doses is predicated upon which manufacturer is used and how old the patient is.  (see table at bottom of page)  Multiple doses may be needed to adequately stimulate appropriate immunity (as well as the longevity of that immunity).  Multiple injections is not uncommon for vaccines (eg polio, MMR, DTaP, etc) though is unusual for "flu" vaccines.  It is what it is, and should be understood within the context of the herculean effort of dwindling vaccine manufacturers (thanks a lot Liberals and Lawyers!) to respond so quickly to the challenge while still manufacturing typical seasonal flu vaccines.  The technology is tried and true but the capacity to produce is limited.
  • Mercury is found in some but not all h1N1 vaccine preparations.  (see table referenced above)  There is no credible data documenting vaccine thimersol as the cause of autism or other disorder.  Still, due to public perception, vaccine makers work to eliminate thimersol from vaccines to avoid controversy.
  • The nasal spray version of the vaccine has Live Attenuated Virus while the rest of the vaccine types, all injections, use Inactivated (killed) Virus bits to stimulate immunity.  The Swine Flu vaccine of 1976 used LAVirus.  Seasonal flu vaccines have used inactivated virus since then (for the most part).  Both versions are safe.  Both versions can have complications ranging from being inefective to causing flu if not made properly.  I am unaware of people getting the flu from the vaccine for as long as I can remember, so the manufacturers must be doing a proper job of making the vaccine.
  • I am unaware of the Canadian study you mentioned.

Flu vaccines

Blonde: Over 35? ;) I don't know if you're talking about the same swine flu "epidemic", but in the late 70's there was a swine flu "scare" and the government pushed for people to get vaccinated in anticipation of an outbreak. The swine flu "epidemic" didn't materialize. It's believed that the vaccine caused more illness than it prevented in the way of Guillaun-Barre (sp?) syndrome. I did get the vaccine at the time and suffered no ill effects. Not sure if it can be proven that the vaccine stopped an epidemic from developing.  Of course, the safety and effectiveness of vaccines has been much improved. I get a regular flu shot every year and I'll be getting the H1N1. Despite the overall fear this virus is causing, it's my understanding that the H1N1 vaccine isn't any more risky than other flu vaccines. The processes used to develop and test them is pretty standard by this point in time. Of course, I defer to my m.d. to help me determine benefit vs. risks. I can only speak for myself. But at a time when I worked in a pharmacy during a major flu outbreak, I was the only one employed by the pharmacy who got a flu shot and I was the only one who didn't get the flu.

Hi Queenmum.The Swine

Hi Queenmum.

The Swine Flu epidemic of 1976 did not really pan out as you said.  While most believe the vaccine caused the spike in Guillian-Barre, maddingly, science has not proven the connection, so it remains equivocal in science circles.

I am unsure about your safety claims concerning vaccines.  Maybe so.  I just don't know.  It has been my understanding that vaccines are made pretty much the same way as before. Maybe someone on the forum can clarify.  Maybe one improvement is in storage - more than a couple physicians have carried on about their alarm monitored refridgeration setup to me.  (Sheesh!)

Effectiveness of flu vaccine is dicey.  Sometimes the scientists select the "right" strains" for production, sometimes not.  The vaccine, though, is still good but may not protect what eventually comes around to the USA from elsewhere.

You are correct in that the H1N1 vaccine appears to be as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine.  Since the process in making the vaccines is essentially the same in both cases, the safety profile should be similar.  Side effect profile may differ though - I have read that local SE's, such as pain and swelling, and incidence of headache may be greater with H1N1 vaccine.  No difference in serious side effect between the two.  (do not have a reference for this - it's just from memory)

Speaking of pharmacies and, by extension, drugs, the resistance of H1N1 to Tamiflu is at 0.5%.  Tamiflu is the drug of choice in the appropriate settings.

Remember

The flap about "Bird Flu" just a couple of years ago?

I wish the old media, when reporting on H1N1 deaths, would include the count of those who died of seasonal flu during the same time period. And the fact that many, if not a majority, of those that died of H1N1 also had long-term health problems.

edited for clarification

“When all government...in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided...” Thomas Jefferson

Take a look at this page as

Take a look at this page as well as the CDC H1N1 site in general for answers to your questions.  Maybe FLU.gov may have something as well.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • The H1N1 Pandemic of 1918-1919 was either the direct or, typically, the indirect cause of death.  Most died from a secondary infection that took up residence after H1N1 weakened the person first.
  • The H1N1 Pandemic of 1918-1919 affected young people disproportionately compared to "regular" seasonal flu's because the H1N1 virus stimulated an enormous immune response in those capable, such as young people, leading to the patient's own immune system creating further problems directly and indirectly (see above bullet point).
  • Older people, all with certain medical issues (eg respiratory, cardiac, endocrine(diabetes), immune), and babies/children with immature immune systems are at greater risk for complications from any infectious agent.  However, it is thought that people alive during the last H1N1 pandemic in 1957 may have at least partial immunity, hence, the otherwise healthy elderly are not at the front of the line for the H1N1 vaccine as they usually are for "seasonal" flu vaccine.

The conclusion is that although those with certain medical problems, the elderly, and the very young with immature immune systems are at higher risk for complications including death from any "flu" infection, the otherwise healthy young are dispproportionately experiencing morbidity and mortality (illness complications and death) from H1N1 infection due to the nature of the H1N1 mechanism of action.

Afghan Troop Decision

Obama has said he'll be making a  decision "in just a few weeks". What else is happening "in just a few weeks"? Oh yeah, the New Jersey and Virginia Governor's elections! Looks to me like he's stalling to either see which way the 'political winds' are blowing, or he's providing temporary cover for the Democrat candidates, taking away one more issue to hit them with. Or both.

sic: Not to mention that

sic: Not to mention that he's now beholden to those who awarded him the Nobel. It's really not such a difficult decision. Will he live up to the vow that every American president is required to make? Or will he throw the whole country under the bus for the sake of mollifying our enemies?

GM sells Hummer to China

GM is finalizing the sale of it's Hummer division to China for a reported 150 million dollars.  The sale still needs final approval by the federal government.

This raises two questions.

As GM reported in their bankruptcy filings that Hummer was worth  500 million, why are selling an asset for less than 30 percent of it's worth?

As the sale also includes the transfer of patent rights, why is GM selling the patents of one of our most numerous military utility vehicles to a foreign country?

Can Obama accept the Piece Prize?

I know that the Constituiton means nothing to the Messiah and the dems but how is he going to get around this?

"No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State."  Article 1 Section 9

By the way I called a Piece Prize because he has done nothing for peace. So he is wanting a piece of something. Do any of you recall the old 3 Stooges with Moe as Hitler? Moe says we want peace to which Larry replies yes a piece of the country and a piece of that one.

Well, technically, he didn't accept anything from a King, Prince,or foreign state, did he? And it's not like Congress won't grant consent if necessary. Plus, he's not the first sitting president to win the award,  so it's not like precedent hasn't been set. I don't think this argument is going anywhere.

Taliban Terrorists Take Military Hostages in Pakistan

Barack Obama, your magnificent presence is urgently required in Pakistan to mediate the current terrorist hostage-taking crisis.

Although you are busy with much more important matters such as shooting a few hoops on a basketball court with members of Congress, and delivering yet another speech, this one to your gay throng, would it be possible for you to attend to this urgent crisis?

There is no need for you to rush into a decision in this regard - could you possibly make that decision within the next year or two? And yes, we do realize that if you do decide to travel to Pakistan, it will probably take a few more years for you to actually schedule and make that trip.

Just think - this would be a prime opportunity for you to "dress-down" to appeal to the average international citizen, by wearing a few of those fluorescent Hawaiian shirts which clutter your closet.

And you could bring in a few dozen of those plastic Greek columns that you used during your campaign, in order to convey an aura of drama for your involvement.

I’m sure that the international community regards you as truly deserving your awarded Nobel Peace Prize. Maybe you could order your accomplices in Oslo to manufacture a gigantic flashy medal for you to wear around your neck when you suddenly pop out from behind the curtains, wave to the adoring mass of TV cameramen, bow to the terrorists, and present them with iPods containing all of your magnificent speeches (minus the preponderance of "ummms and ahhhs"). Then you could snap your fingers, and vestal virgins would magically appear, out from a cloud of smoke, to offer framed official invitations for them to visit you to quaff a few brews on the White House Lawn.

Maybe you would also care to treat them to lavish transportation to the US aboard Air Force One, and top it all off by scheduling a gala ticker tape parade down Wall St. You could also present them with symbolic keys to America, although I doubt that they would require that formality, since the borders are currently extremely porous.

Barack Obama, are you man (... or instead, scratch that and substitute) boy enough to do your duty to ensure global peace? If so, please try to do it within our lifetime.

OK - now you’re free to resume your daily heavy repertoire of partying at taxpayers’ expense!

Barack Hussein Obama - ... mmm, mmm, mmm!

New health care howler, Democrats now floating balloon that health care reform will create 10 million jobs.

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/62417-senator-health-reform-could-create-10-million-new-jobs\

"Nationwide, small firms will spend $156 billion on health premiums this year," Landrieu wrote in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.
"In place of those high premiums, small business owners could employ 10
million additional workers—the entire state of Michigan—at minimum wage
for a year.
"

Is there no lie big enough that a Democrat won’t tell to pass a bill that rewards their campaign contributors and pet constituencies? So now we are being promised 10 million minimum wage jobs if we accept this nonsense?  Gee wheez, I can't see how employing 10 million new citizens of amnesty for illegals could be bad?  I mean after all we certainly don't want that money invested in plant and equipment.  <sarcasm>

IT IS TIME, PEOPLE....

A call to (metaphorical) arms....

A guy came on to a facebook thread of a Republican friend of mine down in Florida and posted this:

"Obama's prize is a measure of how far the Bush administration pushed the United States, and the world, away from peace. So far away that Obama's small but fervent efforts in the opposite direction -- new diplomacy on Israel, Palestine, Iran, Russia and North Korea. He deserves it !!! :)
Shall we look back to...........In 1991, Aung San Suu Kyi won the prize in her jail cell, but the point was to support democracy in Burma (and 18 years later, she is still under house arrest). People need to look at the Big Picture and step outside the box. We as Americans should take pride in his award."

Now... when I read this stuff -- at this stage of the Twilight Zone game -- I simply can not tolerate it. At all. I wasted no time basically belittling and ridiculing this man, asking him exactly WHAT this new diplomacy was, and probably shocked him by telling him Bush did more to promote peace and democracy than any president in the last half century, or certainly since Reagan, by far. I did not call him any names, but firmly told him (in essence) what a complete fool he is.

To everyone: NO MORE MR. NICE GUYS/GALS when we encounter people who say the most moronic things ever. Show them for the fools they are!!

Thank you.

Holy Cow!!

new diplomacy on Israel, Palestine, Iran, Russia and North Korea. He deserves it !!! :)

New diplomacy effort:

Israel:  Quit griping and give up!

Palestine:  There is no "Palestine" but to Hamas etc: Just be patient....we're working on it.

Russia:  Say what??

North Korea:  Whatever....

Iran:  We won't bother you, but I'm here if you ever want to talk....no conditions.....

Yup....Mr. "Peace in our time."

MB

Perfect!! I might quote you in my follow up to Mr. Fool. :)

Also, this just in.... and hold your hat. The runner-ups to the wonderful, courageous, initiative-taking, peace-pursuing NObama:

Chinese Human Rights Activist Hu Jia - imprisoned for campaigning for human rights in the PRC.
Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. (Not to mention the symbolic value of awarding a Chinese dissident on the 20th Anniversary of the Tianenmen Square Massacre.)

Greg Mortenson, founder of the Central Asia Institute has built nearly 80 schools, especially for girls, in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past 15 years.

Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, a philosophy professor in Jordan who risks his life by advocating interfaith dialogue between Jews and Muslims.

Afghan human rights activist Sima Samar. She currently leads the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and serves as the U.N. special envoy to Darfur.

This is not a joke. I repeat..... Yes, it's true, The Vain Do-Nothing One won the award.

"eople need to look at the

"people need to look at the Big Picture and step outside the box. We as Americans should take pride in his award."

I, as an American, will never take pride in being played for a fool. Instead I feel great shame knowing so many in this country revel in it.

Exactly.   What's to take

Exactly.   What's to take pride in?  It's like giving a trophy to the kids in little league that didn't win anything.  So what does a trophy mean, if everyone gets one no matter what.  That's absolutely nothing to take pride in.

No pride in the president of the United States being the "useful idiot."  And praising such a thing is it's own form of idiocy.

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the
world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the

Some of her fellow Baywatch actors haven't fared that well though.  Every now and then you hear about how Hasselhoff drinks himself into a hospital and his poor daughter is the one calling for help on that all the time.  Poor thing.

"...Barack Obama basked in new-found glory on Saturday, vowing to consider
his surprise Nobel Peace Prize as "a call for action" to address the
challenges of the new century..."

The "useful idiot" being used accordingly, though he doesn't even know it.  He agrees with its purpose and vows to make his own purpose that which is the Nobel committee's purpose for awarding it to him.........and we, the American citizen, those with great respect of our sovereign Constitution and understanding of its greatness, will watch our Constitution lose it's sovereignty to this "useful idiot's" ego and disdain for our great nation.

And now that lop-eared

And now that lop-eared knucklehead is saying he's going to end don't ask don't tell.  Isn't that just peachy?  Get set for a bunch more 'hate' crimes. They'll not put up with this crap for long.

This shows he really does hate our military.  Because believe me, it isn't his, never was.  Oh he thinks it is, his supporters think it is, but it really isn't.  And don't bother citing no GD polls for me.  You want to know the truth?  Get in amongst the men on the ground.  That's where you'll find your answers, not some damn poll. lol.

Just once I want to scoop Noel on this stuff.  ;-)

Re SNL

Fred Armisen phones in another performance. He's not even trying to do the Bamster's voice, I could do it better than he does.

Other nominations

Wonder if either Hillary or McCain would have been nominated for the prize, because they aren't Bush either, had one of them been elected.

I am not a fan of Mike Huckabee and Tim Pawlenty. Their comments

regarding Barack Hussein Obama's Nobel Peace Prize confirms my belief that these so-called "conservatives" are as conservative as the New York Times David Brooks, columnist David Frum or MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.

In a Politico article titled Limbaugh: 'Greater embarrassment' than losing Olympics Politico's Jonathan Martin writes:

Mike Huckabee and Tim Pawlenty — both potential 2012 presidential contenders — urged restraint.

"There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama's nomination, made two weeks into his Presidency, is impossible to justify, but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining," Huckabee said in a statement. "The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition."

Pawlenty, speaking on NPR, said there "will be some people who are saying 'Was it based on good intentions and thoughts or is it going to be based on good results?'"

"But I think the appropriate response is when anybody wins a Nobel Prize, that is a very noteworthy development and designation and I think the appropriate response is to say 'Congratulations,'" said the Minnesota governor.

"I'm here to tell you, if either of these two guys [McCain or Huckabee] get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican Party, it's going to change it forever, be the end of it.  A lot of people aren't going to vote.  You watch." ~ Rush Limabaugh (Jan 15, 2008)

not a fan either

I got some seriously mixed feelings about Huckabee now, especially after I saw his show that he said those things.(I watch it from time to time, he gets some interesting guests now and then)    He seems like a nice enough guy, but dang, it seems like his views are all over the place, which is why I'm not a fan of his, not even a little.

That comment said about allowing the left a chance to explain what Soetoro did made me a little mad and a little disappointed, mad because we had different reactions (not the conservative ones, but on the left) that caused different responses in the sense that Soetoro himself said it's a call to action, not to mention he didn't turn it down(should have) since he said he didn't do anything.  Of course, the NPP team had their reasons, much of which were anti-american anyway, not to mention rendering the the NPP ignoble as Joseph Farah said in his commentary.

Hasn't the left been given too many chances as it is?  Was it one chance too many that's allowed the US to get into the position it's in today, which basically amounts to grabbing your ankles and holding on for who knows what? (unemployment, taxes and more taxes, freedoms being seriously eroded and people like Holdren who are calling for major population control with insidious ideas that are actually being considered for example)

A friend of mine prior to the end of the election day back on that fateful day in November said "Give Obama a chance, maybe he won't be that bad." He was trying to be optimistic.  I said "Hell no I don't want to give him that chance, I know EXACTLY what he is and what he will do."(and told him)  A couple of days ago, I talked to that friend and said "Told you so."  He couldn't think of a thing to say in response except to say "You were right."  He's fixing to graduate university and he can't find any prospects beyond a band teacher at middle and high schools.(nothing wrong with that) he's majoring in Music and wanted to get into the commercial sector with labels but whatever prospects he had were lost due to loss in revenue and unemployment rising.

More conservatives need to fight fire with fire.  Otherwise, we'll be in a cold dark place soon.  This week will tell the tale when the health care "vote" takes place(yes, I know, nothing on paper).
