MRC-TV: Bozell Discusses Harry Reid's Scheme to Ram ObamaCare Through Congress

  • Bookmark and Share

MRC's Brent Bozell appeared on this morning's "Fox & Friends" to discuss reporting by NewsBusters.org's sister site CNSNews.com that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is planning to hitch a health care reform bill on to an unrelated tax bill which passed out of the House of Representatives earlier this year.

[MP3 audio here, view embedded video at right]

Explained Bozell :

Instead of having a debate in the House and the Senate and giving a bill to the president, you're going to get Harry Reid's bill, passed by the Senate, by the Democrats... immediately rubber-stamping it, no debate, no House-Senate conference, no Republican discussion, and it goes right to the president for his signature, and oh, by the way, no one knows what's in it.

You can check out the October 7 story by CNSNews.com's Nicholas Ballasy here, an excerpt appears below the page break:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

A senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told CNSNews.com that it is “likely” that Reid will use H.R. 1586—a bill passed by the House in March to impose a 90-percent tax on bonuses paid to employees of certain bailed-out financial institutions—as a “shell” for enacting the final version of the Senate’s health care bill, which Reid is responsible for crafting.

Under the procedure, the substance of House Resolution 1586 would be removed and replaced with the entire Senate health care package. The maneuver would initially require the support of 60 senators to vote for cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 1586 (i.e., end debate on the congressional procedure and move forward).

If Reid wins 60 votes, then debate begins on his health care package. Reid could then decide to block all amendments and attempt to get a vote on the entire package.

more evidence

Those in DC have given us even more evidence of the corruption and disregard for the American people. Voting on a bill they refuse to put in writing, gag orders, voting down attempts to discipline the cheats, back door deals with big corporations, deceptive efforts to increase taxes and penalties on taxpayers to finance their greedy friends, hiring goons with taxpayer money, threatening jail for refusing to give up individual rights of choice. (private insurance)  The list is growing. This has to be the dirtiest bunch in DC in our history and they feel so empowered they no longer hiding their moves. Where are the media dogs who chased Cheney for years on his connections to Haliburton? SNL should take heed. None of this is funny.

Have to agree...

Rush discussed this a week ago

On Thursday, for those of you who care to search the archives.

The dems are going to pass this, by hook or by crook....they're really scared of going the reconciliation route, so they're planning another stealth parlaimentary scam.

Where, oh where, is the MsM?  Hmmmm?

Because if the American people understood the sleight of hand these criminal critters are planning, after a summer of opposition and voicing their opinions, Nanny Pelosi's predictions of violence would more than likely come to fruition.

I hope he fails, too.

B...Rush is talking, at

B...Rush is talking, at this moment, about the Democrats tacking 75 amendments onto the  draft.. AFTER IT WAS VOTED OUT OF COMMITTEE!!!    with no notice to Republicans, nor any explanation of what was in the amendments!

He said John Boehner was fit to be tied last night when he found out.

Have you heard anything about this on any of the AM news shows this AM??????????

As you sai.....Where, oh where, is the MsM?  Hmmmm?

They wonder why we loathe them?

We have to vote all of the scum out.

People in this country are, for the most part, uninterested in politics....but this power grab has alot of people who formerly didn't even notice, paying attention.

Business as usual isn't going to work any longer for the Congress....and they know it.  Hence the thrashing and changing of the rules by the Democrats.  When people figure out they've been scammed, there is going to be wholesale rage and revolt.

We need to up the ante, keep on the pressure, keep writing, calling, and faxing.  DON'T LET UP!  And support your conservative candidates, now, with $$$.

I hope he fails, too.

just wondering

How much pounding can the wall take, with the ever increasing amount of backs that will be against it, before it crumbles and we need to find a new one?

If Reid does this

The outrage about government run healthcare will turn to outright rebellion against this government, mark my words I for one will not stand for it. The day of reckoning is fast approaching for this government and for this president, the American people are not going to take this lying down.

It will soon be time to show what we are made of, we are not the sheeple that the libs consider us to be, we have the blood of the minute men and the militia that fought and died in the revolution that brought freedom to this Nation coursing through our veins and if need be we are ready to fight for freedom again, fight to take our country back , peacefully if possible, violently if necessary.

WE CAME UNARMED, THIS TIME!

Sign from the 9/12 march on DC.

I'm with you, Tom

It won't be the first time I've fought for my country, as did each and every one of my forefathers for generations before.  I'm at an age now, where I'd be fighting for my children and future grandchildren, and would have little regard for myself.

It's us silver headed baby boomers, raised by WWII and depression era vets, that they need to worry about, and we already have been there/done that, and got spit upon once already for our service. Now they're spitting upon us again?  I don't think so!

Old Fart

As an old fart my self I agree with your post.  Been spit on when in uniform, been told to just shut up and go along but you know what not anymore.

If the healthcare bill is

If the healthcare bill is so good for Americans, it should be voted on out in the open--without Reid's flim-flam tactics.  Also all members of Congress should set the example by including themselves as participants in it giving up the sweetheart deal they currently have.

"Fighters are fun but bombers make policy"

I wonder why?

I wish someone would explain to me why the people of Nevada keep voting for this intellectual midgit??  This guy is so stupid he can't help himself......like the video where he says people don't have to pay taxes......errrr reid buddy....thats only for politicians!!!   What a yoyo!!

Massachusetts

Ask the state of Massachusetts(also known as Tax-achusetts) the same question.

I met a girl who's from there.  She thinks it's a great state to live in.  Small wonder, her parents pay for everything.  How often is this repeated in other states?

Pawns on the board

Great--now these geniuses have figured out some way to foist a mystery mess on us--lots of people still uninsured, people fined or sent to jail if they don't give insurance cos money or else the IRS checking our accts to see if we are poor enough to fall under govt control, more docs in fakey coats, oh, who knows--and we will forget about it in a week until it pops up again, done deal, in four yrs. Nifty.

Let Them Pass It

It seems that passage of a Healthcare Bill, by hook or by crook will happen. At this point, I say "go ahead, make my day". We all know it will not work, will not lower costs, will increase taxes and cut Medicare benefits. This will be the final straw for the American People and they will arise. Healthcare is a tangible, people feel it and it impacts them and their families every day. When it goes south (as it will) the culprits will be very easy to identify. Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Baucus, Democratic House and Senate. It will destroy their agenda, create havoc in 2010 and put Obama in serious jeopardy in 2012. The Republicans should not support this in any way, shape or form but rather put forth their plan and make the simple arguement that "We had a better way". Make the Dems self destruction a "spectator sport".

A scheme doomed to fail.

Reid's scheme is doomed to fail.  The Courts will never allow it.  You can't simply replace the "substance," the text, of one passed resolution with text that isn't even related to the original bill.  The Constitution allows for amendments to be attached to a bill, but it doesn't allow a bill to be rewritten, text to be removed and replaced, after it's been proposed and passed by one House or another. And the original bill itself wouldn't pass Constitutional muster as in imposes an ex post facto law, something that is clearly unconstitutional.

So, Reid is considering using an unconstitutional process to change an unconstitutional bill?  That pig, as they say, doesn't fly.  But good luck with it, democrats, for it will, if attempted, show all of America just how much loyalty you display towards the  Constitution, which is, to say, none at all.

Heavens! A politician using

Heavens! A politician using unfair tactics to push through a bill? What is the world coming to? Harry Reid is the Anti-Christ! Off with his head! He must be a racist, communist, socialist, baby-killing Nazi intent on destroying America! Probably doesn't even have a birth certificate.

Last I heard there were plenty Republicans on every committee which developed a health care reform bill. No debate there? No amendments? What'd they do? Just sit there staring out the window whistling Dixie?  Actually, what they did was stall, criticize and attack rather than contribute anything remotely constructive to the process.

The Republicans in the Congress are sitting this one out. They want no part of reform other than to stop it cold. Not because it's bad for the country, but because it would mean giving President Obama a legislative victory, in addition to riling the insurance companies who are lining their pockets. Right now, all the Republican Party can think of is 2010 and a dim hope that it will regain some seats in the House and Senate. So it is doing everything it can to obstruct, discredit and misrepresent anything that the Obama administration wants to do.

Harry Reid may be using under-handed tactics to get a bill, but he has been forced to do so by an opposition that has used nearly seditious tactics to undermine the chances of any reform passing.

→ Jar-Jar

You should write a book.  You could start out with a ripoff of "The Exorcist" where they uncover an artifact, and go from there.

I'll bet it would sell, maybe as many copies as Nancy Pelosi's book.

Harry Reid may be using under-handed tactics to get a bill, but he has been forced to do so.

That's exactly the apologetic logic we hear about drug addicts.

I haven't read any of your poetry, so I can't really call you a poet, can I?

But not having a sense of decency shouldn't hold you back from following your dreams.  But thanks for the admission.

you could barely contain your bile and were sputtering 'racist' every fifth sentence.  Now you want to sit on 'decency' and call us what...?

Huh?

I can;t believe that you're trying to justify Reid's attempt to circumscribe the legislative process  by attempting to place the blame on the Republicans!  What are you, one of Reid's aids?

I guess we weren't so paranoid after all. LOL. Well, if they do it, they'll see how Americans respond with votes. If it's done, the level of disrespect and arrogance will be truly staggering.

It's called Freedom and Liberty

Those "seditious tactics" are done by an "opposition" who wants to preserve our Constitution, our Freedom, our Liberty, and our Country.

-Jon

Whoa there

Your argument is that in the political negotiations about reform, the Democrats were afraid the the Republicans might win. Therefore, in your argument, the Democrats were justified to rig the game, because they might lose.

Suppose the Dallas Cowboys hired private referees to work a game, on the theory that legitimate referees might prevent the Cowboys from winning the game. That's exactly the same justification.

Jar-Jar

So the end justifies the means. Take that logic and expand it to include laws you would find abhorent but it was done because the ones in power have no choice but to use deception. That kind of logic says more about your character than it does Harry Reids tactics. Give your comments some thought and recognize the dangers in your thinking. This thinking is the reason we have laws, legislative process, and a constitution.

JR~

You said:

"Harry Reid may be using under-handed tactics to get a bill, but he has been forced to do so by an opposition that has used nearly seditious tactics to undermine the chances of any reform passing."

First off, there is no gun to Reid's head to force him to do something wrong to get his way. Cajun spoke on "end justifying the means," which is another thing I was going to say. Don't even get me started on tactics! Plus, with the entire makeup of Congress and Obama in office -- and the media propoganda machine for the Left -- give me a big ole break! The only thing you don't have to accomplish the healthcare "mission" is Tinkerbell stopping by with magic fairy dust. It should be a piece of cake...but it is not. Why?

Because what you have here is a piece of crap legislation that the public isn't buying because they are onto the facts -- an inconvenient truth for Mr. Reid. But apparently one that he is willing to overlook and snake his way around.

Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace ~Amelia Earhart

Re Tinkerbell
