"Bizzare"
July 4, 2009 - 08:54 ET by allanfThe words of NBC's chief political correspondent Chuck Todd.
Notice how Palin timed the announcement for just before the Fourth of July after the Sunday talkers had tapped. That was done to minimize the inevitable comments of biased media types such as Todd.
Todd and his ilk always
July 4, 2009 - 09:16 ET by motherbeltTodd and his ilk always think that anyone resigning a public office without the impetus of a personal scandal or otherwise being forced out is "bizarre." They never consider the fact that to some, at some point, it's just not worth it any more.
Mark Steyn had this to say at NRO:
As a political move for anything other than the 2010 Senate race,
today's announcement is a disaster. And I'm not sure it's a plus for
the Senate - and, even if it were, the manner and timing suggest it was
not a professionally planned event and therefore is unlikely to have
any grand strategy behind it.
So Occam's Razor leaves us with: Who needs this?....
(emphasis mine)
Maybe he's right, and maybe the "different direction" has nothing to do with politics.
I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson
Re Bizarre
July 4, 2009 - 09:35 ET by slickwillie2001I read Steyn as well. What Palin has always lacked is a machine and management. Without the Chicago machine and Axelrod, the Bamster is a nobody. There is a small Alaska Republican organization but it's nothing compared to the Chicago juggernaut, and they probably don't see Palin as one of them anyway.
She has no 'Axelrod' either, and she needs to stay miles away from anyone in the McCain pack of losers. This person has to be someone that Palin has total confidence in, and those kind of campaign managers are rare.
The Bamster also benefits from a gifted speechwriter. That's less critical as those are not quite in such short supply as campaign managers.
Whatever the reason is...

July 4, 2009 - 12:50 ET by choselife3xI can't believe you haven't been snatched up. Come to Charlotte and you'll be swarmed by desperate 20-30 somethings. I heard some women talking the other day at a restaurant and according to what I overheard, if a man has a steady job and wants to be married the women will fight over him. Bring a stick to beat them off with and you can have your pick. ;-)

Bizarre
July 4, 2009 - 09:04 ET by acaiguanaBizarre to whom? To the great minds who decide what pap to feed Americans through their magic pens and glib tongues?
Look, this woman has stood up against rather bizarre attacks on herself, her family and her ethical foundation.
Maybe she's smarter than the MSM dolts who think they understand everything about politics and human nature.
It is possible that she meant what she said. She said she was changing fronts in the war against America. Not that she was leaving politics nor did she say she was doing it for purely personal reasons. I think she mentioned several times that she saw the move as being 'good' for Alaska.
I mean, does Alaska need to present an image to the rest of the world mired in these silly attacks on their Governor? I don't think so. Nor do I think that we have seen the end of Sarah.

Good analysis. I think
July 4, 2009 - 10:30 ET by NL207Good analysis.
I think she made this decision for several reasons not necessarily in this order:
(1) The media were attacking her family.
(2) As long as she's in Alaska, the MSM are her face in the lower 48. If she does have national political aspirations, she needs to define herself and not let these MSM vermin define her. She can't do that in Alaska.
(3) The left has a collection of stooges up in Alaska that are making frivolous charges of corruption against Palin with impunity. These are only possible as long as she is Governor of Alaska.
(4) The Left has sent a collection of private investigators and quasi-governmental agents to invade Palin's privacy looking for political dirt on her, her family and anyone connected with her. This is hard to justify if she does not hold office.
Regardless of her actual motivations, I think she has delivered a master stroke against these Rahm Emmanuel types.

Ugh
July 4, 2009 - 09:55 ET by WhichWingThat was horrible to watch, did she wing it? She just kind of rambled incoherently. The whole thing was weird, kind of like when Romney dropped out of the race last year. (Though he was a much better speaker.) They both seem to hint at doing one thing before doing another.
My thoughts...
July 4, 2009 - 09:58 ET by cjbreisch...are here.
In short, conventional wisdom says that a) there's a scandal brewing, b) there's a family crisis, c) her political career is over, or d) all of the above.
But CW has never applied to Sarah.
She ruined my day
July 4, 2009 - 09:57 ET by ricklailI told my wife last night that we ought to load up the grandkids and go to Camp Lejuene (Now pronounced Le-jern) for the 4th celebration. (New Bern has scaled back on their celebration I think to save money for their 300th birthday party next year.)
I saw on the news that Senator Kay Hagin was going to attend the festivities at Lejuene so that ruined it for me. I don't want to be near anyone like this lib who comes and pats the Marines and sailors on the back then goes back to DC to vote against military or veteran affairs to please Dear leader. is sickening the way politicans come to bases around here and praise our fine men and women and then go back and allow things like recruiting and retention pay to be cut by the Messiah. We all know the distain they have for the military. They try to look good in front of the cameras but when they are turned off it is a different story. I wish the unpatriotic bastards would stay in DC.

July 4, 2009 - 11:06 ET by CacciatoNew rumors abound...
Palin stepping down due to impending Embezzlement scandal.
Word on the street is that she is facing a criminal investigation regarding her awarding of a contract to Spenard Building Supplies to build a hocky rink in Wasilla and in return they built her house.
I knew it! There was no other explanation for her BIZARRE move.

Consider better streets to walk, Cacciato.
Frivilous claims make it painful to stay IN office.
July 4, 2009 - 11:11 ET by jondelwicheI will stick with my points from the last thread (below), and slickwillie had the great point that, in ILL, Obama attacked and destroyed his opponents BEFORE elections. Great point--deja view all over again! It is Chi-town politics!
It was reported last month she had 18 ethics claims since last summer, costing her 500K already! in legal bills. None were found to have merit, and of course (shock!), they were filed by Dems. That is more than her 4 years of salary.
She had to pay the state back for her kids to fly with her. Does Obama pay us for his kids jetting back from Europe? What are the odds? Any chance wacky Letterman will be doing sodomy jokes about the Obama kids? What are the odds? This is the new Democratic politics: In MN, we have had rabble rousing StarTribune columnists recently openly advocating suing Pawlenty over his budget decisions. These are ugly times, and we better get ready. Their side is, simply review the ethics "complaints" against Mrs Palin.
Isnt it odd how the legal actions to save Schiavo's life were presented endlessly by our media as intrusive, but our same media is NOT interested in the harassing legal actions against Palin, and likely soon to be Pawlenty. In an era of 2 trillion dollar one-year budget deficits, our media is AWOL.
ethics complaints against Obama
July 4, 2009 - 19:33 ET by needleI am not a lawyer, but it seems to me that maybe someone could and should file an ethics complaint against Obama for spending $300,000+ of the government’s money to take his wife out to dinner and the theatre in New York, and then there was a similar unethical expense to get some pizza.
- Relying upon the MSM for your information is like relying upon an embezzler to manage your portfolio.
McCain on Iran
July 4, 2009 - 11:16 ET by slickwillie2001Senator McCain delivered the Republican address for July 4th, and signaled his support for the Iranian people who are still fighting for freedom even though the US old media has moved on. He said what President Prissypants should be saying but for some reason is unwilling to.
Republicans Reach Out to Iranian People: http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com
"Today, we stand with the millions of Iranians who brave batons, imprisonment and gunfire to have their voices heard and their votes counted. They do not ask us to arm them or come to their assistance with anything other than public declarations of solidarity, and public denunciations of the tyrants who oppress them. We have a moral obligation to do so.
There are those among us who warn that a strong and unequivocal declaration of moral support for Iranians would be used by the cruel regime in power there to convince their subject people that the United States is behind the civil unrest they have attempted to hide from the world. But the regime will make that claim no matter what we say or do. Do they really believe Iranians don’t know why they’re protesting and who is oppressing them? Do they think Iranians whose votes were discarded, whose voices have been ignored, whose lives have been threatened by the regime they wish to be rid of will think America has put them in that position; that the CIA caused a brave and idealistic young woman to step out of her car to join their protest, only to be instantly murdered by the henchmen of the regime?"
To some extent McCain is obviously addressing the Bamster directly. Not that it will do much good with him, but we need to wake up Americans to the dangers of a weakling President.

Obama Wants to Change Independence to Indentured Day
July 4, 2009 - 12:28 ET by Retired GeekAn indentured servant is a form of debt bondage worker.
Historically 'Indentured Servants' were required to work a specific number of years, usually (3 to 7), but the 'Hope' Obama brings with his 'Change', is that the 'Indentured Servants' will only serve from April 15 of one year to April 15 of the next.
The 'Indentured Servitude' class or 'Collective' that Barack Obama is creating, will only be a segment of the American Citizens, comprised of those who willingly work in an attempt to provide for themselves and their families - all others are exempt.
The children of the 'Indentured Servant Class' automatically inherit the 'Debt Bondage' of their parents.
Barack Obama hails this 'Indentured Collective' as Patriotic and a 'Sacrifice for the Common Good'.
This 'Collective' is quite similar to 'Share Cropping', where the worker is allowed to keep a small portion of their labor for personal use.
Barack Obama is NOW destroying the American farmer and food supply, by with holding water to 100,000 square miles of the most fertile land on Earth in California.
The control of the 'Food Supply' is necessary to Barack Obama, so that he can ration enough food for the 'Indentured Servants' to remain alive and work.
Those who are NOT in the 'Indentured Servant Collective' will become the owners and operators, of the 'Indentured Servitude Collective'.
This is but one small aspect of the 'Hope and Change' Barack Obama is bringing to America.
I'm not a mother
July 4, 2009 - 12:40 ET by GaiusBaltarI'm not a mother, I'm not a parent...but why would any mother or parent want to put their children through the kind of attacks this woman faces every single day?
If its not MSNBC, then its Vannity Fair, if not Vannity Fair, then Huffington Post, if not Huffington Post, then David Letterman, if not David Letterman, then some other late night comedian, if not that, then its a politican or a left wing blogger or the mainstream media...the list keeps going on and on and on...
I support Sarah Palin from here on out. I've continued to do so since day 1. The attacks on her have fortefied my deicsion to be one of her most loyal supporters.

Where is the support?
July 4, 2009 - 14:42 ET by ricklailJust like you many of us supported and will still support Gov. Palin. Many pundits like Ann Coulter, Laura Ingrahm, Hannity, Rush, et. al. have supported her against all attacks. I don't seem to recall the Rep, and I use the word loosely, leadership in Congress ever going on TV or defending her from the chamber of the Senate. It has been and will continue to be us, the unwashed and uneducated, that will continue to support her and her family.
If she lived here in NC they would be calling her a redneck because she loves to hunt, fish, and enjoy the great outdoors. As you know you can't beat a good woman that loves to do those things. If she has a bass boat then it is icing on the cake.

Palin
July 4, 2009 - 12:44 ET by maggieqpublicPersonally, I think it was a “my family comes first” resignation. A year’s worth of non-stop public abuse of the most vicious kind…
However, I do wish she had slowed down and used a teleprompter for this significant announcement. The words were tumbling out, and she was near gasping for air. But this woman is honest and decent and talented and many of us look forward to seeing her continue to serve in public life… if that is her ultimate choice.
To those who think she is a quitter… please remember that it was not only the Governor under personal attack. The stories and jokes about her children were unprecedented in American political life.

I think she did what she
July 4, 2009 - 13:46 ET by niner-four-whiskeyI think she did what she felt was best for Alaska, her family and herself, in that order.
There's been a non-stop, full out attack on her, her family and her governership since the speech at the convention.
The liberal democrats, their stooges in the press are scared to death of this woman. She shatters all the carefully crafted stereotypes of conservatives as being only cynical, rich, old, white men that the Democrats and the press have pushed for years and years.
The media, news and entertainment media have been nothing but hostile, political operatives have made countless baseless complaints of ethical violations to drain her and the state of dollars and time spent on legal defense and it has been non-stop.
I hope this is not the end of her political career.
The Governor's website
July 4, 2009 - 14:11 ET by IckThe Governor's website posted a transcript on Friday, July 3. Here are my comments on several sections:
So she is saying she is doing this for reasons that you normally don’t see. I tie-this in to her comments below.
Notice anything? Very specific and almost irrefutable evidence of ACTUAL WORK and ACTUAL RESULTS. Not talk, not questionable associations, not “voting present” and avoiding issues. This section was in stark contrast to Obama I think.
An obvious reference to the fact that the media is biased against reporting actual results. I certainly see the bias to “hide” things like this... but perhaps I don’t see clearly about that.
...and that, my friends, needs to be said more often. This needs to be THE battle cry of the Tea Parties
Said again to make sure you didn’t miss it?
This, I believe, is the REASON she is stepping down. Don’t get me wrong, she has future plans and this opens those doors for her, but this seems to be the reason. Her staying in office will harm Alaska, cost the State money, cost the state resources. It will tie up the state in endless counter-productive activities. She is the target. It is time to move “the target” away from the Governor’s position. There is too much collateral damage. THIS is the “no more conventional ‘politics as usual.’” I applaud her for her WISDOM in not doing what is politically expedient for her to do.... stick it out and hamper her state.... but to step aside to save her state from harm. I am no fan of “quitting”, that disappoints me about her and this situation, but maybe she has a point. When a player is hindering a team in a sport, it is time to get off the field and find a new role. There is no sense continuing to play the game when you jeopardize the team effort.
Oh, I almost forgot. Were you aware that she was CLEARED of all ethics charges? I bet you weren’t. It wasn’t reported in the media much. I know I almost missed it. That is disappointing to say the least.
NATURALLY, this is where most of the news outlets CHOSE to cut of her message. Here is the rest. You decide if they should have played the whole thing.
Again, more evidence as to why I have concluded these reasons for resigning may be justified.
Sooooooooo....... she will do it from WHERE then? THAT is the big question I want to know.
Well, I have seen enough evidence to give her the benefit of the doubt and see what is in store, perhaps you have not.
This sure isn’t over.

This one's for you, sucka!
July 4, 2009 - 14:30 ET by Jack BauerA message from President Obama this 4th of July:
Friend, Comrades, Fellow Travelers --
This weekend, our family will join millions of others in celebrating America. We will enjoy the glow of fireworks, the taste of lamb barbeque, and the company of good friends. As we all celebrate this weekend, let's also remember the remarkable story that led to this day.
Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, or the year 1101 in the Islamic calendar, our nation was born when a courageous group of patriots pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the proposition that all of us were created equal.
Yes they were mainly slave owning whites, which is why my sweeping changes in American society seek to fairly repatriate and confiscate that wealth in order to return it to its rightful owners.
Our country began as a unique experiment in liberty -- a bold, evolving quest to achieve a more perfect union. And in every generation, another courageous group of patriots has taken us one step closer to fully realizing the dream our founders enshrined on that great day.
This day I commend ACORN, my new Civilian Army, La Raza and other such courageous progressive unions for extending our dream.
Today, all Americans have a hard-fought birthright -- enshrined in a genuine birth certificate -- to a freedom which enables each of us, no matter our views or background, to help set our nation's course. America's greatness has always depended on her citizens embracing that freedom -- and fulfilling the government duty that comes with it.
And that duty involves keeping a watchful eye on your neighbor. Is he smoking? Does he run his air-conditioning thus taking vital resources from poor third world babies? Does he own an SUV? Is he teaching his children the correct way of thinking? Is he a gloobal warming denier? However he trangresses from the great Collective Good as stated by me in my Little Read book, we must re-educate him for his own good.
As free people, we must each take the challenges and opportunities that face this nation as our own. As long as some Americans still must struggle, none of us can be fully content.
And as America comes ever closer to achieving the perfect Union our founders dreamed, that triumph -- that pride -- belongs to all of us. The illegal alien, the struggling Muslim, the terrorist, the Hollywood crowd, the depressed network news anchor, the race baiters.
So today is a day to reflect on our independence, and the sacrifice of our troops standing in harm's way to preserve and protect it from dumb decisions. It is a day to celebrate all that America is. And today is a time to aspire toward all we can still become under my benign and wise taechings. Please send your donations to www.OBAMA2012-2030
With very best wishes,

Laugh at him. Point out that what he's doing is contrary to the founding philosophy that created the United States.
He has to be made to defend himself constantly. Put him on the back foot and he'll stumble alright.

(This is one record that will never be broken.) July 2nd marked the King's 72nd birthday.

That news you posted, my friend, made my day (because you forgot to post how many weeks until football season starts).
Happy 4th to you and yours.
I hope he fails, too.
We still have about 8
July 4, 2009 - 18:42 ET by ricklailWe still have about 8 weeks. This week's Sporting News ranks the top 120 Division 1 schools. Your Gators are #1. Coming in at 30 is UM. They open the season with FSU (Monday night 9/7), then GA Tech, VA Tech and Oklahoma. That is probably 4 losses in a row. If that happens don't look for Randy Shannon to be patrolling the sidelines for the 2011 season.

know what NB needs to start doing?
July 4, 2009 - 20:11 ET by candanceSomeone needs to start monitoring TV shows, particularly those aimed at children, where liberal propaganda is pushed more and more.
You can hardly watch the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon five minutes without seeing some reference to global warming, internationalism, or anti-Christian values. They pick up right where public schools leave off in training children to be loudmouth bullies.
If you can find a better food...

I could probably put Backyard Burgers out of business. :-)

Indeed, yet the American Idol watching, People Magazine reading stupid American sheeple insist on worhipping the death of the freakazoid that was MJ, as if he were some sort of diety.
God, it's enough to make me want to puke.
