For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: cap and trade would be the biggest tax hike in American history!
The whole point of cap and trade is to hike the price of electricity and gas so that Americans will use less. These higher prices will show up not just in electricity bills or at the gas station but in every manufactured good, from food to cars. Consumers will cut back on spending, which in turn will cut back on production, which results in fewer jobs created or higher unemployment. Some companies will instead move their operations overseas, with the same result...Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can't repeal that reality.
Thoughts?

June 26, 2009 - 20:04 ET by reelman46THE LOUISIANA DIFFERENCE!!!
from the La. Family Forum website: 2009 Session Finished!
Now that it’s all said and done, announced, lobbied, discussed,
amended, debated, voted and voted some more, what do we have left to
show from the 2009 Louisiana Legislative Fiscal Session?
For starters, this is the first session in fifty years that when the
state has projected a revenue shortfall NO NEW TAXES passed!
Here are a few other distinctive notes:
* No life support given to the Stelly Tax Increase
* Not a single anti-family bill passed
* Not a single gambling expansion bill passed
* Not a single Planned Parenthood or ACLU-friendly bill passed
Here are some affirmative measures:
* Healthcare Workers’ Conscience Act passed!
* Human-Animal Hybrid Ban passed!
* Choose Life License Plate Funding Fix passed!
CRAWFISH NOTE: Republican Govenor and growing number of Republicans in the legislature…plus some angry voters…
and looky looky the difference from the ole democrat overtax and overspend traditon!
IT CAN BE DONE!

One of the biggest news days of the year, and all we get is hour after hour of Shep Smith looking like he's about to weep into the camera now that his apparent mancrush on Jackson has been crushed!

June 26, 2009 - 10:27 ET by Doc_NavyMy wife actually got a tear in her eye yesterday when we were watching the live braodcasts of it all on FOX. This was when it was still an unconfirmed report. She looked at me and asked what I thought. I said this:
1. I think he's dead.
2. I expect that there will be a bunch of "Expose'" books coming out of the Jackson family soon. They need the $$
3. I was never a big fan of Jackson anyway. I'm glad the freakshow is over.
4. I'm especially happy that all the "jesus juice" kids can sleep easy now.
5. Jackson lived (IMHO) a selfish, self-centered, perverted, money driven, fame seeking, self indugant life. I am POSITIVE that he is about to get what he deserves at the judgment bar of God. For better or worse.

June 26, 2009 - 09:49 ET by slickwillie2001Agreed, and it continues this morning non-stop. Iran, North Korea, Cap and Trade, Immigration debate, -all set aside for MJ. I'm not anti-MJ; a 15 minute update every hour would be just fine, but the world goes on.
Here's that famous clip of the Bamster saying that "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket": http://www.redstate.com
But folks need to realize that this is far, far more than just your residential power bill. Factories, warehouses, grocery stores, malls, telephone companies, internet providers, hospitals, schools, colleges, and businesses of all kind would also pay those 'skyrocketed' power bills, and pass on those costs.
This would mean a massive increase in cost-of-living, and what the politicians like about it is the deniability of it all. How many of the Bamster's supporters will connect higher bills and prices to Congress and the Bamster himself? Or will it all be blamed on 'corporate greed' by the democratics and weak minds like Bill O'Reilly?

June 26, 2009 - 09:12 ET by dboThe Wall Street Journal hit a home run when they say
This bill is going to cost even more than the worse case scenarios are predicting. The original 600 page bill has now been bastardized so many times it is now over 1200 pages. Not even Waxman knows what's in the bill. Every Tom, Dick and Mary have their fingers in the pie. As the years and decades roll on, so will the usual special interest, pork and empire building. Business will leave, money won't be invested. Al Gore will have more money than the U.S. Treasury. As usual, companies and corporations will make out to be the bad guy since the increase will be passed on in prices for services and not direct taxes. This will lead to even more government control that the next generation will call for, not understanding the root of the problem. And of course, this bill will have absolutely ZERO impact on that 'weather problem' we have.

June 26, 2009 - 21:26 ET by SvenI think you nailed it when you said Jen7 "hates" this country. I would only add that this hatred is probably more directed at Bush and Republicans from her response.
Think about it, she came hear for no other reason than to gain joy from our dispair at this economy destroying legislation. I'll wager you she probably doesn't even know what's in this cap and trade legislation. She's just glad to see the Republicans upset.
And that's what's really sad. Her abject hatred of Republicans has caused her to support something (by default)--that if passed---will more than likely be a factor in destroying this country. She's just gald that "The Democrats stuck it to these Republicans!!"
I can't imagine being so filled with hate, that it rules all of your actions and emotions.

June 26, 2009 - 21:04 ET by SvenGlad it passed... it's fun to watch the wingers here go ape on this. Have a nice weekend! :)
Jen7, you simply know not what you say. You are blind by your hatred of Bush (this is an educated guess) and Republicans.
God forbid, but if this Bill gets through the Senate and signed into Law by Obama, the life you know will be over. I know you think this is fear mongering, but it is a fact. This bill will not only bankrupt our country by forcing US companies to setup shop overseas, but it will raise Americans energy bill through the roof!! And remember, hard working Americans are employed by both Coal and Energy companies who Obama wants to "Bankrupt." During the campaign Obama said:
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.
Now you can be smug if you want, but these words from Obama should send a chill down your spine, because these increases will directly effect your pocket book and lifestyle.
Jen7 if it does pass, do us favor and let us know how you're doing in a year, and remind us all of your words "glad it passed."
Oh, and how's that Stimulus working for you? ;-)

Yet, you watch, somehow they, meaning the msm/pols will find a way to spin this when it does happen...and people finally take notice.

June 26, 2009 - 21:49 ET by kilrod~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tea Party Patriots Action Alert HELP...WE NEED YOUR INPUT IMMEDIATELY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Tea Party Patriots, Today you were scammed by the House of Representatives, and despite the fact that you shut down the phones of virtually every Representative in the nation, they ignored you and voted for another bill which they haven't even read. HR 2454 The American Clean Energy & Security Act (Previously named CAP & TRADE) passed, with the assistance of eight Republican votes. The House added 300 pages today, none of them have read it, and they still voted for it. How much abuse will will we take from politicians that don't care about us any longer?
So, the question is, what are you willing to do about it? We have watched in awe as Iranians have taken to the streets of their nation to protest a corrupt and abusive government. Do we have what it takes to stand up to our own government and tell them that we won't take it anymore? Do we have the genes passed to us by our forefathers, who risked their lives to preserve their freedom? What do you want to do?
Many are suggesting that we take to the streets now...immediately, around the country...at every Federal courthouse, in every city. Are you willing? Are you ready? Is it time to say NO MORE????!!!!!
Please let us know ASAP what you want to do. Do you want to take to the streets right now? It's Friday night across the country, and a good time to hit the streets if you want to express yourselves. Do we want to do it tomorrow? Many Patriots are angry and demanding immediate action. This is a true grass roots movement and we aren't going without you. Is it time to light a grass fire and hit the streets tonight or tomorrow? Thanks,
