For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Obama speaks to "State of the Black Union."
"You know that tough times for America often mean tougher times for African Americans. This recession has been no exception," Obama told the 10th annual "State of the Black Union" gathering, noting that the unemployment rate among African-Americans is five points higher than the national average.
How does this make you feel? Aren't we ONE nation? How can we be ONE nation if there's a Black Union?

March 1, 2009 - 18:43 ET by Rush FanBefore I retired I worked for a number of large aerospace corporations. As expected, every one of them emphasized "diversity." So they encouraged organizations and groups within the company that highlighted this diversity. So there were the Black Engineers group, the Black Women Engineers group, the Hispanic group, the Asian group, etc. For some unexplained reason, there were no groups that had "white" as part of their name. Of course, if you were white you probably couldn't join these other groups.
Now I am all for diversity, but for a corporation to emphasize and encourage its employees to join organizations within the company based on ethnicity is a blatant form of segregation.

March 1, 2009 - 11:03 ET by sublight68To paraphrase Rush's CPAC speech, Conservatives look out across the country and see individuals, Americans, each with the potential to succeed if government would just get out of the way.
Liberals see groups, victims, each needing to be kept aggrieved and told they're destined to fail, their only hope to remain beholden to the government.
There is no one country to Liberals, just hyphenated Amercian groups to keep stirred up and dependent on the government's benevolence.
Why I enjoy telephone surveys.
March 1, 2009 - 11:09 ET by Kingfish17I don't hang up when I get a telephone survey, and here is why. One of the earlier questions in any of these surveys is inquiring about my "race". I am always very cordial to the person on the other end of the phone, until they get to the question about race. I respond:
"Why are you asking that question? Why is someone's race so important? Now I know that you don't make up the questions, but by participating in racially divisive steryotyping and racial classifications, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. You should be concerned that you continue to use race to divide our great nation instead of trying to bring us together. I refuse to participate any further with this survey."
Or something along those lines.
Our nation and the world will cease becoming racist when race is no longer even considered. I really believe that if we lined up everyone in the world, that we would go from one end of the color spectrum to the other and there would be no way to distinguish the "races". That's my dream.

March 1, 2009 - 11:32 ET by Gat New YorkI think this mantra of Black victimization is tired and old. What happened in the 1900's and prior is irrelevant unless you are are Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or Jeremiah Wright and their followers.
The socialist policies of Captain Zero will drive this country's economy over a cliff and the people who believe are getting handouts will watch their job prospects and income disappear.
This man is a socialist and a danger to our national security.
The ONLY thing I agree with that Obama said was:
". . . we know that government cannot and will not succeed alone. It will take all of us stepping up and doing our part. It will take the commitment of parents and teachers and community leaders."
If they want to look for reasons why African Americans are still dispropotionately out of work or poor then ask people like Obama, or Stanley Neal, or Richard Parson, or every other wealthy and powerful Black person and what they have done personally to break this cycle of poverty, and stop blaming government.
The real danger here is
March 1, 2009 - 12:12 ET by ThisnThatThe real danger here is that Obama is re-enforcing the idea that there is a sub-nation within the U.S. His presence gives this organization support and bragging rights; and pushes them even further away from mainstream America. Why would Obama do this? Answer: Because Obama, himself, doesn't see him as part of America. This is his chance to re-cast America in his own vision, tearing it apart from within; and leaving it vulnerable to outside forces. I truly don't think he likes this country. I'm still waiting for the first piece of evidence that proves me wrong.
BTW, has anyone seen that he has nominated a partial-birth abortion advocate for his cabinet? Since the abortion rate among blacks is highest, what does this say about Obama? Does he think killing more black people is the path to full acceptance by the liberal elitist-class?

Even more than "not seeing
March 1, 2009 - 13:41 ET by Gat New YorkEven more than "not seeing himself as part of America" Obama was never part of Black America until he left Columbia and sought to use Black America to further his own political purpose.
In threading his life with his mentors, Obama is a socialist and a well schooled Alinskyite who is using those tactics to lull America into socialism.
Being half white and having grown up with a white mother, white grandparents, in white neighborhoods and white privileged schools Obama could hardly say he had the typical "black experience." But to further his own goals he has used racism and black support to achieve his goals.

Did he tell them the truth?
March 1, 2009 - 11:50 ET by ThisnThatDid he tell them the truth? That when Obama starts raising taxes on hard-working Americans, that their spending cutbacks will trickle down and increase the unemployment rate even further? That Obama's "Gov-makeshift-jobs" are all dead-end, and will offer no advancement opportunities at all for any low-end wage-earners? That as long as blacks (or anyone else) think of themselves as disadvantaged, that they will always remain poor? That other minorities -- Asian, for example -- don't have the same victimhood mentality, and are wealthy and prosperous?
Even better, Obama could have mentioned Bill Cosby, and proclaimed that Cosby's observations were spot-on about the black community, and that everyone should pay heed to Cosby's warnings. Did Obama do that? Or did he just simply stick to the old racial handbook -- whites are evil and oppressive; you have no chance; therefore, democrats will take care of you forever; please vote for us again?
Obama is pathetic. He will never get above his community organizer mentality.

BREAKING NEWS! Hot Off The Press! The New York Times is
March 1, 2009 - 16:34 ET by Rush Fanreporting in an article titled: New Agency Proposed to Oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae that these two agencies are finally going to be fixed once and for all.
The New York Times: "Under the plan, disclosed at a congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry."
The New York Times: "The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken."
If these quasi-government agencies are permanently repaired, perhaps the crisis we are in will not be exacerbated.
However, the plan proposed by the administration may still be difficult to get through Congress. A number of Congressional Democrats are against the plan as The New York Times reports.
The New York Times: ''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of
Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
The New York Times: "Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,''Mr. Watt said."
One again the Democrats are pushing back against proposals that may help avert another financial disaster. Let's hope that this time it gets through Congress. We certainly don't need another financial crisis on our hands.

March 2, 2009 - 08:44 ET by MrDebaterThe article is from sept. 11, 2003...not quite hot off the press. This article just shows that Pres. Bush tried to fix Fannie and Freddie in 2003...long before the crisis happened.

I was attempting to be somewhat humorous, but I wasn't very effective at it. I came across this old article while searching Fannie and Freddie. It was the oldest article I have seen that clearly showed that President Bush way back in 2003 realized there was a problem and attempted to fix it, and as you indicated "long before the crisis."
I was also surprised that the article was from the New York Times, and that it appears to be fair and balanced (unusual for the far-left newspaper), in that it included the pushback from Barney Franks and other democrats.

Obammy Eligibility
March 1, 2009 - 19:33 ET by slickwillie2001The Obammy birthplace controversy has made it to the top of the AOL News webpage: http://news.aol.com/main/obama-presidency/article/the-birthers-obama-conspiracy-theory/363461
That's the article, news on the news home page that points to this article may change in a few hours. The article is written in a saracastic, conspiracy-debunking tone, but the shock is the poll being taken on whether 'you have any doubt about Obama's eligibility' etc., which shows 47% of the 235,000 respondents DO have doubts.
On a generally liberal website like AOL, that is really surprising. It may just have to disappear.
slick... Wow, that is

glad to see that has not gone away,

Exactly right you are when it comes to DC and how they work.
One thing about it though...we have enough information to form our own opinions via the internet with what and who O is etc...
Thank God for the internet...or is that Gore I'm supposed to be grateful to... ;-)
doubt
March 2, 2009 - 03:45 ET by bknownstWhat doubt? Comrade 0 was born in Kenya. His Mother flew to Hawaii 8 days later to pretend he was born there. She was an American so he was born an American in Kenya. Later his mother gave up her American citizenship and by extension 0's citizenship while he was a young boy. He had until his 21st birthday to reclaim his citizenship and never did it. So last November we (they not me) elected our first African president of the United States, in violation of the U.S. constitution. End of story, now we live with the aftermath. Is it any wonder this man is so anti American?

Barak Obama has..
March 2, 2009 - 08:32 ET by MrDebaterrepeatedly shown that he is the President of the Liberal States of America...He openly attacked Limbaugh(thereby conservatives), he wants to be "bipartisan" as long as Republicans are willing to just do what he wants. He is all about being the "Robin Hood" of the black community...I thought the President was for ALL Americans, not just SOME Americans, but it isn't looking that way...I never heard Bush attack talk radio or any other person by name...Obama is just another liberal who creates class envy and splits the country into various factions, believing in the divide and conquer theory of politics...he is not my president by his own admission.
