Saturday Night Comedy Video Open Thread

UPDATE: We're getting some of the best submissions we've seen since we began this segment months ago. Do yourself a favor and venture below the fold. You won't regret it!

Tonight's Comedy Video Open Thread will again feature your recommendations. Readers are encouraged to submit suggestions to Noel and Warner via PM or EM (nsheppard@newsbusters.org, igcolonel@hotmail.com).

Our first submission isn't a comedy video, but given the events of the week, NBer AnotherFedUpOne rightly thought we all needed some uplifting...and this certainly did it for me:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Phone lines are open.

I'm not looking to turn this into an "American Idol" evening, however, this young woman from Cincinnati, Ohio, got into my heart Wednesday night:

NBer upcountrywater offers us an updated version of the Beatles' fabulous tune "Tax Man":

NBer Blazer offered this:

The offerings are coming fast and furious tonight, folks. This was submitted by mizflame98:

Blazer has offered us another video, this one from the folks at Funny or Die. As soon as I saw the title, and heard the U2 intro, I knew this was going to be absolutely delicious...and brilliant:

We are DEFINITELY having some fun tonight, folks, for NBer stratman has just submitted a video from a group called the Cactus Cuties that I guarantee is going to bring a smile to every NBer's face:

Wow! The hits keep coming, this one also from stratman. Before you watch, consider that this operatic piece has 40 million hits at YouTube. 40 million! And I guarantee you'll be crying like the people in the audience and the judges:

As an editorial follow-up to stratman's Cactus Cuties submission, I wanted to demonstrate just how good these girls are. For years, I thought the best a cappella version of our national anthem was performed by Huey Lewis and the News who I, as a Bay Area resident, had the pleasure of seeing live on multiple occasions including once when they sat behind me at an A's playoff game.

Sorry, boys, you don't hold a candle to the Cactus Cuties:

This was from just before the election, but it is a great one. (Thanks mizflame98)

The Brits Can Sing!

Connie is truly a gift.

On the same show as Connie was the "lump of coal" Paul Potts.  His rendition of "Nessun Dorma", the famous tenor aria from Puccini's Turandot, is absolutely wonderful.

Just watched the Cactus Cuties.

Just watched the Cactus Cuties. I'm claiming the music and vocals were piped in....Sounded eerily similar to 'N Sync.

Hey Jer

Right, well99...that's what prompted my "quip". Actually, I thoroughly enjoyed BOTH performances.

  The opera singer guy

The opera singer guy reminded me of that guy from Mad Max that had the doll and liked to stroke it, not to take anything away from his talent nonetheless, but evidently he shocked Simon too, his eyes were twitching with disbelief that someone so unattractive could belt out something so incredibly touching.

Good one Blazer, however my favorite still is

Gaye totally deconstructed

Gaye totally deconstructed the National Anthem then rebuilt it completely his way.  I generally do not enjoy people messing around with our National Anthem, but I've got to say, Marvin won me over on that unique performance.

Unfortunately, for every Gaye there are hundreds of selfish trilobites that ruin the song.  Case in point, one Roseanne Barr.  Warning - do not watch if you have blood pressure or cardiac issues.

Since this is supposed to be a comedy thread, and since there is a National Anthem theme happening, her is a real toe-tapping rendition by her Royal Thighness, Madame Secretary Clinton!  Cat's in heat alert, but at least Hillary's trying, unlike the Gorgon from Denver.

You have been warned.  Proceed at your own peril.

Come to think of it, strat,

Come to think of it, strat, my own cardiac and blood pressure issues started right around the time I first witnessed Roseanne's unprecedented butchering of our National Anthem. But, I still can't resist watching and LMAO.

Jer

Whitney might be messed up,

Whitney might be messed up, but the lady can sing!

Wow...wow and wow... A

Wow...wow and wow...

A lump of coal that is going to turn into a diamond indeed!

I'm no big opera fan...but if that doesn't get you...nothing will.

Thank you strat...

Now Noel...as to Huey Lewis and the News....one of MY FAVORITES forever...can't tell you how much from day one..sure wished I would have been sitting where you were at the time...lol.

BT

BT,

Well, if you're a Huey Lewis fan, I'm really going to make you jealous.

In 1990, I was working for Great Western Bank who was the number one sponsor of the A's. In game three of the ALCS, I was sitting in the second row behind the Sox dugout. In the front row were the owners of the Sox. Sitting behind us were Huey Lewis and the News who sang the national anthem. They were just regular folks like us. As we kicked the heck out of the Sox, I sat there chatting baseball with the band.

Very cool!

Even more delicious, after the game I chatted with the owners of the Sox. I mentioned to them how poorly Jody Reed was doing leading off, and how the only batter besides Wade Boggs doing anything was Ellis Burks. I suggested they move Burks up in the lineup to get someone on base before Boggs.

In game four, Ellis Burks led off. I kid you not!  :-)   ns

Dang Noel... Like I

Dang Noel...

Like I said...wished I would have been sitting where you were at the time.

Heck, I'm about Huey's age too...I would have had a blast, wasn't a bad looker either then..nor now by the way...just gracefully a bit older...hehehee!

You are one heck of a lucky devil!

Damn Noel

I'm not a big baseball fan, (being in San Antonio, I really don't have a dog in the fight), but you have me jealous as well.

Economics, baseball, blogs; is there anything you don't excel at?

Like 'em

I like Huey Lewis well enough. But the thing that made me laugh about that video is you could SO tell that Lewis did NOT want to be there!! I had to laugh at that.

Good Pipes

My pleasure BT.  Sometimes a small introduction like Nessun Dorma can spark an interest in listening to more opera.  It did for me.

Huey Lewis and the News were a fav of mine back in the day too.  Those boys could sing AND play!  Saw them in concert a couple of times.  The ladies sure like Huey for some reason.  ;-)

Yes we did like him for

Yes we did like him for some reason....we knew why too!

Still do!

Now I'm jealous of you...I would love to see them in concert!

This isn't comedy but,

This isn't comedy but, if someone could post Kate Smith singing God Bless America I would appreciate it. America needs His blessing and it would be a nice prayer from NBs to God.

Jesus Loves You

Kate Smith

This is what I found. Kate Smith at the 1976 Stanley Cup finals. Not the greatest quality.
