MRC's Bozell Slams AP for Bush vs. Obama Inaugural Double Standard

"Sometimes, Brian, I think we live in a parallel universe, where the media see the world one way when it's a Democrat in power and another way when a Republican is in power," NewsBusters Publisher Brent Bozell told Fox News Channel's Brian Kilmeade. [audio of segment available here]

The Media Research Center president appeared on the January 16 "Fox & Friends" to discuss an astounding contrast that illustrates the media's liberal biases: the Associated Press scorned the roughly $40 million spent on the 2005 Bush inauguration but is assuring readers that it's okay to glam it up for the 2009 Obama inauguration.:

BRENT BOZELL: Look at these headlines. We found this, this is from AP. Four years ago on the eve of George Bush's second inauguration. This is the lede: "President Bush's second inauguration will cost tens of millions of dollars. Forty million alone in private donations for parties, balls, etc. Then it goes on to say, what else could that money buy..... Now, four years later, same AP news outlet. A story on Barack Obama. According to the Guardian newspaper, he could spend as much as $150 million. That would be three times more than George Bush spent. This is their [AP's] lede: "So you're attending an inaugural ball saluting the historic election of Barack Obama in the worst economic climate in three generations. Can you get away with glitzing it up and still be appropriate not to mention comfortable and finacially viable? To quote the man of the hour, 'Yes, you can.' Veteran ballgoers say you should, and fashionistas say you must."

BOZELL: In other words, it's a wonderful thing to spend $150 million if you're Barack Obama, but you need to be condemned if you spend $43 [million] and you're George Bush.

Kilmeade then pointed out that another issue the media should look into is bank executives getting federal bailout money giving donations to the inaugural festivities, to which Mr. Bozell added, "The more things change, the more they remain the same. This is buying access, of course it is."

"This is buying access..."

This is brown-nosing, sucking up, and eating s**t.

Sleaze at it's very worst is the MSM, and the AP is leading the way.

What's the Big Deal?

How is this a problem?  The media being in bed with Obama will make reporting on his administration that much more smooth and easy.  By the way, be sure to watch the PBS Frontline special, being displayed in a large ad right next to this comment box as I write this,  "Dreams of Obama" on January 20.  And we can't repeal the 22nd amendment fast enough.  Finally, the man this country needs.

I think I'm going to be sick.  Thank God for Brent Bozell, MRC, and NewsBusters.  As Rush said, after watching that travesty with Lindsay Gramnesty Bootlicker kissing Obama's arse the other day, if these guys (the Rino's) think that getting in bed with O is going to solve their problems with the base, it ain't gonna happen.

P.S.  Is there any way possible to remove that Stupid, Assinine, Suck Up PBS ad from the NB site???  I thought so.  I'm going to go throw up again.

I stopped reading

I stopped reading newspapers, magazines, watching TV news and PBS several years ago. I have a list of "reliable and truthful" news sites I visit for news. I also go to sites like these and laugh at how insignificant these other organizations are.

"Forget change, I want improvement!"

what sites do you

what sites do you use?

Why do you ask, bling in the clowns?

You looking for other sites to spread your 'Bush should be in chains Wednesday night' BS?

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Other Sites

bb65:  a good place to start would be the blog roll just to the right of this column on every NB page you go to.  The MRC site is awesome, as is Rush's site, American Thinker, Michelle Malkin, FrontPagemag.com, RedState.com, National Review Online, and Townhall.com, just to name a few.  I believe one of our regular commenters regularly cites GiovanniWorld.com.  For all things AGW, a great place to start is Senator James Inhofe's Inhofe EPW blog, listed at the right.  If islamofascism is of interest to you, a valuable resource is Andrew Bostom- just go to American Thinker and search on his name.

clx3 is replying as if she thinks you are being disingenuous, but I'm going to take your bio at face value.  There is a whole world of valuable, thinking person's information out there, outside the control of the MSM.

Tho this type of

Tho this type of reporting is reprehensible, is anyone really suprised?

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

The MSM no longer tries to

The MSM no longer tries to hide the fact that they are the Propaganda Wing of the Democratic Party. When I saw an article at Slate Magazine "Let Obama Smoke" and saw the Affirmative Action Hero's picture gracing the cover of Men's Health, it was obvious that there exists two sets of rules. One for the Liberal Elites and another for the rest of us.

Barry and the AP

As an honest patriot leaves office to be replaced by a Chicago political thug, the AP lauds an ostentatious display of riches. These are the same people who "cry" for the "poor" in America. Hypocrites all!

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

There is a difference here

I do not see any criticism for how much was spent for Bush's first term. If the economy is still terrible 4 yrs from now and Obama wins re-election by only one state like Bush in 04, the press might carry a different tune.

Good morning Shawn

When you wake up, read the news BS from four years ago then you will see the criticsm. The criticsm that has been going on for the past 8 years. President Bush will also be blamed for all the harm The Chosen One does to America for the next 4 years.

Jesus Loves You

Cocodrie

sorry, my comment is intended for Shawn. I should have stated this but linked to his comment instead of yours.

Good morning Worried

It makes no difference so long as Shawn wakes up and gets his head out of the sand before he smothers his obtuse self.

Jesus Loves You

Please cocodrie

If there is media bias I will admit it. As far as I know, we are talking about the re-election of George Bush and the election of Barack Obama right?

I like you alot cocodrie, but instead of accusing me of being obtuse it would be nice if you stuck to the topic or answered a straight question once in a while.

Did Bush catch any flack for however much he spent in his first term yes or no?

Get your head out of the sand

If your idol was to spend $1 billion, his a$$ sniffers would still be okay with it.

Aren't you the bit embarrassed about the Old Media going on and on about your idol that has not deserved any of the adoration he is receiving BECAUSE HE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO PROVE HE IS FIT FOR OFFICE?

Why did you vote for this clown anyway?

In shawn's defense

I don't believe Obama is even close to being his idol, and I'm pretty sure he voted for McCain.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Thx choselife3x

Just because I dare question media bias on certain topics does not mean I do not recognize media bias at all or Obama is my idol.

Dayem shawn,

LOL-I didn't realize you were a sand-head.

I think everybody is rather upset right now. The incredibly rude response of the media to the President's farewell address, combined with all the fawning over Obama is just SO over the top offensive. Democrats who visit this site are likely to catch some of the outrage.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

CL3X

IMO George Bush gave a great heart felt goodbye speech yesterday, unlike other libs, I am very grateful for the fact that we have not been attacked for the past 7 years.

It is rather disgusting how the msm is attacking him and I can understand the anger the right has right now. On top of losing the election and giving up more seats in congress, they have to deal with the liberal msm as well

If I am ever out of line, I will be the first to apologize, but I believe I have a legit argument here.

Shawn

I don't remember what was going on back then, (I was 4) but the 'argument' seems like a mountain out of a molehill.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

It was not me that brought up Reagan and Bush 41, it was somebody else.

The topic of this thread is the hypocricy between Bush's re election 4 years ago, I am saying that in 4 years if the economy is still in the tank and Obama wins re-election, I believe he will catch flack for spending a bundle on his celebration.

He had my vote

Shawn

One can only hope. ;-)

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

You just don't get it, Shawn

Shawn, Shawn, Shawn,

You just don't get it. I'm pretty sure that if there was internet in abundance during Reagan and Bush '41, we could have found the SAME articles from our press COMPLAINING of the amount of money the GOP was spending for their inauguration.  It is the duplicity of the MSM that is the concern.

Much like the homeless issue.  When the Republicans are in charge, out comes the homeless issue.  When a Democrat is in charge, AMAZINGLY, all those homeless now have domiciles cause the issue isn't even mentioned!

It is like I've said in the past, Adolph Hitler had Joseph Goebbels.  The Democrats have ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, MSNBC and most print media.  ALL are just propaganda elements to espouse only ONE view!

Now where are the wet wipes and kleenex so that I can sent them to the Obama-mania media so that they can clean up after their Obamagasms?

Glubber, Glubber, Glubber,

I don't remember what the press was like when Reagan was re-elected but the economy was good, Bush 41 did not get re-elected so it is irrellivent,  and the economy was quite good under Clintons first term.

"when Reagan was re-elected but the economy was good

NOT!!!

When Regan took office the country was in the midst of a severe recession and consumer interest rates were over 15%!  I bought my first house in '81 and thought we were doing good at a rate of 12 1/4%!  At the time, rates of 5% seemed like a pipedream.

Rates of 15% don't seem like a pipedream the way things are going.

Reagan took over a bad situation that was created from Jimmy Carter. I said when Reagan was re-elected the economy was good not when he started.

Again I am  taking  about the difference of taking office for the first time and re-election

Fox & Friends, huh. All

Fox & Friends, huh.

All well and good, but talk about preaching to the choir.

BTW, is Gretchen a Skeletor or Couric wannabe?

The main reason I watch that show is because it's not one of the Leftist MSM morning shows and I'm addicted to TV (My name is RR GOP and  I'm addicted to TV...there I admitted it.)

The two guys come across as being pretty dumb.  Also, I don't know why people get up at 4 AM to go down to the studio to share 3 minutes of air time arguing with someone else before getting cut off for a commercial break...and then these three sit around smoking and joking over total BS at will.  Forgive me for being more interested in what your guests have to say than your innocuous chit-chat.

One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.
