In an article noting the increase in the numbers of black teens being murdered every year we find out that among other things:
1. Obama will be the nation's first black president. NO!!! Really?
2. The study partly blamed Bush administration grant cuts to local police and juvenile crime prevention programs for the surge in crimes by young black men and teens. Ah, yes. Can't report a problem without blaming Bush for it.
3. Incoming Vice President Joe Biden has promised funding to put 50,000 new police officers on the street to help bring violent crime rates back to a decade-long annual decline that began in the mid-1990s, after then-President Bill Clinton provided local officials with money to hire 100,000 new cops. Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that localities didn't even come close to hiring another 100,000 cops.
I was posting the NY Times version of this story, below, and didn't notice yours. Mixing politics and racial resentment. (Black Americans are killing each other because of Republicans.) Sick.
A small morality tale. In a game they had to win last week, the Eagles ignored balance, and failed miserably. Yesterday, they stuck with balance, even when it gave no immediate results, and they won. Lesson learned? I really hope so.
People forget (especially Reid) that when the Eagles were rising to the top of the NFL, that they bragged about their rushing game. They had a three-headed monster at tailback, with Duce Staley, Brian Westbrook, and Correll Buckhalter. Back then, they were on their way to multiple NFC championships. Then Staley left as a free agent, and Buckhalter shredded his knee. Westbrook emerged as a great back, but the offense was handed exclusively to Donovan McNabb. McNabb is a terrific quarterback, but he isn't the superman he and Reid think he is. He can't win by himself, which has been proved on the field.
What scares me is that after the Eagles were considered out of it, they ran the ball and balanced their offense, and they got back into it. But once the cameras were turned on, the media focused on McNabb, and that prompted McNabb and Reid to pass all the time ... and the Eagles lost. These days, when the Eagles get close, they forget balance and they try to make one guy a superstar. They forget their own history, and the balance that got them where they are.
All they need is for Childress to throw another typical bad challenge flag, continue calling obvious plays, fail to discipline his ball-dropping boneheaded players and use atrocious clock management, and the Eagles can't lose...
But if the Vi-Queens actually play to their ability they can beat anyone. Subtract a few fumbles here and there and some bonehead mistakes and some stupid game-management, and MN could be a 12-4 team....but you can't subtract those kinds of things...neither can the Eagles subtract their negatives. It's a toss-up.
It all depends on what the league wants to have happen for the following week match-ups...
Looks like the axe is falling on several NFL coaches. Story
Will the Cowboys fire Wade Phillips? He should be if for no other reason than that embarassement at Philly.
By the way if Crennel is gone in Cleveland and Edwards losses the job in KC, I can hear the uproar from Jesse and the crowd about the lack of black coaches. I've heard the 49ers are going to offer the job to Singletary so maybe that will balance out.
Remember, I'm an Eagles fan. I want Phillips and Romo and Owens to stay right where they are.
Of course, I used to say that about Tom Coughlinn. I used to think that Coughlinn's dictatorial harshness would prevent the NY Giants from winning ... until the Giants got rid of the prima donnas (Shockey, Barber) and the rest of the Giants bought into the plan. Then they won the Super Bowl.
It just proves the fact that it doesn't matter what your system is, or how brilliant your "scheme" is - the most important thing is whether your players buy it. You still need talent, but a lot of teams have talent. What makes great teams different is that they play in sync, no matter what plan they follow.
Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel and GM Phil Savage are out.
While the horrible season was not all Romeo's fault, having three QB's sidelined this season, the breakdown on team moral and cohesion rest squarely on his shoulders and that of Savage's as well.
The team is in shambles internally - it is never a good sign when your star QB (Brady Quinn) gets thumped by a fellow player (defensive lineman Shaun Smith) in the locker room.
Romeo was considered a friend by many on the team. My take is that a coach, like a parent, is not there to be a "friend" to his charges. A coach is there to educate and motivate, including liberal use of "tough love" to get the team in good working order.
Murder Among Black Youths The murder rate among black teenagers has climbed since 2000, even as murders by young whites have scarcely grown, a study has found. It blamed cuts in federal support for community policing, among other things.

Dr. Western also said that the impact of the reduction in government spending on crime control would have to be studied on a city-by-city basis, and that many other changes, including a sagging economy, could have affected murder rates.

If you are, you can elect to fly out of SFO, where soon you will be able to purchase "certified" carbon offsets that will allow you to sleep comfortably on your flight, secure in the knowledge that you have done your part to counter-act your wanton damage to the planet.
But the general idea, officials said, is that a traveler would approach a kiosk resembling the self-service check-in stations used by airlines, then punch in his or her destination. The computer would calculate the carbon footprint and the cost of an investment to offset the damage. The traveler could then swipe a credit card to help save the planet.
Right.

I don't know why Austin Hill took so long to write this column.
He describes the scene in McCain's HQ on election night.
The moment of epiphany for Ian, a reporter from Dublin, a skeptic about bias in the American media as related to him by Hill, is amazing.
The money quote:
Later that night, when the clock struck 9pm on the West Coast, and California was “called” for Obama, and Obama was thus declared the winner of the election, several American journalists began cheering, “high-fiving” each other, and dancing about in the McCain media center. A shot of staffers jumping and hugging on the set at CNN in Atlanta appeared on our big screen monitors, as well. “Oh dear God,” Ian exclaimed in his thick Irish brogue. “You weren’t jokin about the bias.” (emphasis added)

In what may have been a case of the oldest profession meeting its oldest customer, a 94-year-old Bradenton man was charged with soliciting a prostitute. A judge threw out the charge saying an undercover officer entrapped him when she approached his car and got him to agree to pay for sex.

I get back in by noon today, turn on Fox News, and what do I see -- "Breaking News" -- all those people in London and Greece protesting against Israel and the U.S., burning flags.
Way to go MSM -- keep giving these creeps air time and reporting "world sympathy". Not a word, though, about the 3,000 missiles fired into Israel this year, including 60 today. Where are the protests against that?
At least Bush is putting the blame squarely on Hamas. No one else is, though. What about Obama? Is his support of Israel that clear? I haven't heard him say anything, yet, to support Israel. MIA, I guess. Too busy not posing for pictures on the beach.
UPDATE 12:12pm: Now the UN Sec Gen is pointing out that the "conflict" has to stop because 1/2 the population between Gaza and Israel is children.
But nothing about condemning Hamas for being a terrorist organization. Nothing about Hamas starting this. Nothing about Hamas placing rocket launchers in the midst of the population, not caring at all if their "children" are in harm's way. Nothing about how the "children" are brainwashed into hating and possibly killing Israelis. It's all about hate Israel, blame Bush all the time. We need to pull out of the UN -- now!

Obama (coke-head) is going to fail miserably in Foreign Policy, especially since he is putting someone who does not work for a consensus but wants to throw everything including the kitchen sink at a problem.
We are going to see an increase in unrest in the Middle East and other hot spots in the world because Bambi is going to be seen as a pushover. Someone who will wait to give a response because he is looking for the right "nuance" to show his position.
Now as far as Israel is concerned, I hope that the Israelies will prevail in destroying Hamas. I feel bad for the innocents that are being killed, but when you support someone who does not value life like the rest of us you take your life into your own hands.

Murder Among Black Youths
The murder rate among black teenagers has climbed since 2000, even as murders by young whites have scarcely grown, a study has found. It blamed cuts in federal support for community policing, among other things.
Article:
The report primarily blames cutbacks in federal support for community policing and juvenile crime prevention, reduced support for after-school and other social programs, and a weakening of gun laws. Cuts in these areas have been felt most deeply in poor, black urban areas, helping to explain the growing racial disparity in violent crime, Dr. Fox said.
After riling up the Sharptons, comes perspective:
But Bruce Western, a sociologist at Harvard, cautioned that the change in murder rates was not large and did not yet show a clear trend. Dr. Western also said that the impact of the reduction in government spending on crime control would have to be studied on a city-by-city basis, and that many other changes, including a sagging economy, could have affected murder rates.

Israeli protests
December 29, 2008 - 12:17 ET by ThisnThatI get back in by noon today, turn on Fox News, and what do I see -- "Breaking News" -- all those people in London and Greece protesting against Israel and the U.S., burning flags.

Protest against the terrorists? C'mon you have got to be kidding. Don't you know we live in an age where up is down and bad is good?

December 29, 2008 - 12:37 ET by ThisnThatHas Obama condemned the 3,000 missiles -- separately, that is, from also placing blame on Israel for not showing restraint? Israel knows it can count on Bush to (a) Be a friend, and (b) Define terrorism clearly and consistently.

Obama (coke-head) is going
December 29, 2008 - 12:49 ET by Scuba DudeObama (coke-head) is going to fail miserably in Foreign Policy, especially since he is putting someone who does not work for a consensus but wants to throw everything including the kitchen sink at a problem.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the MSM to report this:
December 29, 2008 - 12:23 ET by R D HelmAfter all, the last thing the MSM wants to do is to cast their beloved, "moderate" Muslim friends in a bad light.
This is beyond disgusting.

Caroline Kennedy...Definitely NOT ready for primetime...
December 29, 2008 - 15:08 ET by PrairieSkyI understand now why this dingbat doesn't want to take questions from or talk to the press...Everytime she opens her mouth she shows just how ill-prepared she is for public office.
Take this article from FoxNews.com for example...
