For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Gun sales rising because of Obama!

Embedded right is a video from a "Nightline" installment a few weeks ago discussing the explosion in gun sales nationally since Obama was elected. The CBS affiliate in Chicago did a report on this subject Wednesday night (video available here):

"Once people started to realize that the Democrats had a better chance, or seemed to have a better chance, they started getting nervous about certain gun regulations," said Illinois Gun Works' Owner Dan Mastrianni. Recent gun sales are up nationally 42 percent. In Illinois, they are up 38 percent; and in Chicago's suburbs 50 percent.

What do you think is responsible for the rise in sales, and are you stocking up as well?

It would be easier to understand your comments/contribution if they were stated minus the obvious ranting. Do you have anything to contribute?

Yes and Yes

I have purchased a .38 special and an 18.5 in barreled shotgun in the past 3 weeks.

I am trying to convince my wife to let me get a 1911. She doesn't care I have them, but the money.

I am going back and forth on the 1911. Hopefully, Santa brings it to me!

You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

Kimber makes a nice 1911.

Kimber makes a nice 1911.

But personally I like the Springfields XD’s more capacity and they shoot well. The Springfields Xd 45 hold’s 10 in mag and one in the pipe.

The Kimber will be more accurate but you pay for that accuracy.( don’t get me wrong I really, really like the Kinber’s, my best friend owns one and I can shoot the heck out of it but it is still quite pricy.)

I have picked up a few new guns, what I have been looking at are the ones that the Democrats would ban first. Large capacity mags and the like.

I have Democratic in laws that over the Thanksgiving were hitting me up with: what is the right doing arming up to over throw the government..Ugh..

Its funny before I could start on my second amendment argument, my wife (an ex lib) went after them for me. She took them apart, piece by piece. For me it was a great Thanksgiving!!

M1911-A1 s used to be widely

M1911-A1 s used to be widely available as Mil surplus after our military decided the pissant NATO Baretta 9mm ought to be the standard issue sidearm.   Most of these guns were Colts and the vast majority were manufactered before 1946.  The military rebuilt and reissued these over and over again.  My issue was originally mfg for the USMC in 1914 and had been refurbished at least twice before issued to me.  I am certain it was re-issued at least once more after I separated before being disposed of.

The Beretta

NL207 - You know, I am in the market for that "pissant NATO Beretta 9mm".  I have to become proficient at it, you see, and shooting once a year isn't cutting it.  Any ideas on where I can go buy one?

Taurus pt 101 or 100

Unsane.

I was trained with the Baretta 9mm but wanted more knock down.  The Taurus Pt 100 or 101 have the same frame but is a 40 caliber.  Best gun I've owned.  11 in the clip and one in the pipe plus it drives nails at 30 yards.

Taurus PT140

I have the PT140 Millenium Pro, and read many a review. It is either a love it or hate it gun from what I read. Only shot it once (50 rounds, fairly new to the firearms realm).

So far, no complaints. I am going back to the range next weekend.

You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

Use 165 grain bullets not the 180 grain.  They seem to feed better in my Taurus.  The best advice I can give is to buy a .22cal semi about the same size wieght as your 40 cal and shoot shoot shoot.  You can shoot all day on about 10 -15 bucks.

All true, but...

VERY valid points, semper, but no offense, I am stuck.  Until the Taurus Pt 100 gets to be standard-issue in the AF, I have to become proficient on the Beretta. :-(  Hence my being in the market for one.  But...I will keep your make and model in mind.

Besides, another factor of "knock-down" is the ammo used.  Ball ammunition an put holes in people but not stop them cold.  I suspect that if different 9mm ammunition was used, the knock-down would be there.

"THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING!!!  A WAR ON FREEWILL IS COMING!!!" - Nevermore, "Bittersweet Feast", from This Godless Endeavor (2005)

I should think you would be

I should think you would be proficient with the 9mm.  You had to qual with it to be commissioned just like I had to qual with the M1911.  Even loggies like you have to maintain proficiency!  Never can tell when the enemy will appear in a place he is not supposed to be.

Given that you are in TX, and you want a 9, there has to be a mil surplus dealer in the San Antonio area, and IIRC, the Air Force maintains some sort of logistics distribution facility there that handles arms.  There is also a USA depot associated with Ft Hood / Ft Sill somewhere down there.  Any stricken / surplused weapons suitable for diosposal on the civilian market would be dispositioned there.

Otherwise, you are going to be like the rest of us civvies and have to go to a reputable firearms dealer and buy one at market rates, and those aren't cheap these days!

Amen, Brother NL207!

Amen, NL!!! Yes, I had to qualify on the 9 and have to annually, BUT that is the ONLY chance I get to fire the damn thing. I don't know about y'all but I get very rusty doing that. Hence my desire to buy one and practice on my own time.

Indeed, I may have been an office bound loggie in the desert, but no matter: all at or above E-9 had to carry the Beretta on them at ALL times when deployed. It was to the point that I actually got to do something few others do: carry a gun, with its ammo, on a plane while in transit.

I'm waiting for my wife's

I'm waiting for my wife's new XD-M to come in now.  19+1 in 9mm!  You know those high-cap mags are going to be outlawed again if Hussein has his way--not to mention the confiscatory taxes he's proposed.

The 5 reasons

I read on one of our member's blog a very interesting article about gun sales. I haven't figured out how to code yet. I'm a bit computer retarted. Here's the address:

http://giovanniworld.wordpress.com/2008/11/25/this-years-christmas-gift-...

5 reasons were listed:

1. People are afraid of another ban on assault weapons
2. Tax on ammo purported to go up to 500% under Obama administration
3. Fear of riots because they don’t know what might happen
4. Increase in crime with so many people losing their jobs
5. Good barter: Can trade guns and ammo for food if we go into a deep depression”

Number 5 threw me. I never would have thought of it but with the uncertain economy I can see it being used as barter. Needless to say I actually took inventory on what ammo I have in stock. My hubby has a loading bench he hasn't touched in years. I told him to go buy fresh supplies.

I'm also a watkins dealer. Usually I keep only a little stock on hand. I read another blog suggesting people stock up on chocolate, cigarettes and alcohol. I thought, "I should keep some stock in on things that will last a few years. Like salves and such." Guess what my next monthly order will include!

Personally, I hold McCain

Personally, I hold McCain responsible for this.

He had an issue he could use to garner support from key states and he sat on it. The NRA supported him and he sat on them. I thought when he chose Palin that finally he woke up to his senses and realized that Gore lost because of this issue. The Democrats suddenly were silent about this. Why? They knew it was a can of worms for them. McCain obliged them. If he had unleashed Palin, she could have fired up the core of this 2nd Amendment loving crowd and made it a subject the Dems would have to respond to considering she was such a lightning rod. Instead of seeing Palin as a media magnet he could utilize to his advantage, he used her as a Trophy Running Mate enclosed in a glass cage.

McCain could have won had he done this. He used that canned speech of "Get up! Fight for what you believe in! get up and fight!" and yet, he was the worst example of this. All talk. If he really believed in that, he would have led by example and tackled this (apparently too touchy for him) subject. He sqaundered it.

I think I can speak for every NRA member when I say that Biden's face alone is the face of a gun grabber. I remember him during the "assault weapons" ban during the Clinton years. Obama is rabid about this too.

The 2nd Amendment was created so that tyranny could be thwarted by an armed populace. That Obama, Biden etc; would have 24/7 armed protection for their families and "we the people" would not, is the very definition of tyranny. That essentially they would not have to live under the same laws we do.

From American Daily:

Also, a check of Pistol License records shows
that Senator Schumer possesses an "unrestricted" pistol permit, a
rarity in New York City. Licenses are distributed in different
categories in the Big Apple: Target Permits allow only use of a firearm
at a licensed firing range; Premises Permits allow weapons to be kept
in a home or apartment; Restricted Permits allow the gunowner to carry
their firearms concealed but only within the purview of their job
(security, jewelers, armored car guards, etc.). So it's evident that
Senator Schumer has two sets of rules -- one for Americans and one for
himself.

This guy is in the wings salivating at the opportunity to live above the laws he would impose on us all.

That little news item about Obama wanting to have 20,000 troops here in the US?

I for one interpret that as a coming "knock....knock" on the doors of American citizens.

So do others.

A Good Business to be in

When Obama was declared the winner a number of my friends went out and started buying ammo and the gun they had their eye on for the last few years.  Just in case.

I know that the gun stores in my area have sold out of every AR-15 they have in stock, Panthers, Bushmasters are all on back order.  So it seems one part of the economy is going to have a good year.

Great Global Warming News: Miles O'Brien Out at CNN

TVNewser is reporting that CNN's Miles O'Brien is leaving: "O'Brien's departure comes as the network dismantles its science, space, environment and technology unit in Atlanta. That includes O'Brien as well as six producers."

Back in 2006 NewsBusters reported that O'Brien claimed that scientists who questioned global warming were "bought and paid for by the fossil industry."

From Amy Ridenour's National Center Blog: "CNN's Miles O'Brien recently asserted that the Heartland Institute "desperately wants us to believe" there's a conspiracy to distort information about global warming....

So why did O'Brien have conspiracy on his mind?

Perhaps because O'Brien was busy distorting the global warming debate at the very time he was mocking this straw man of his own creation."

Beware the church of climate alarm

Nothing boosts gun sales

Nothing boosts gun sales better than the election of a freedom-hating, gun-grabbing Marxist to the White House.  :-)

I am also guessing that Obama's call for some kind of a Civilian Security Force, or whatever it is, has more than just a little something to do with the rise in gun sales as well.

And don't let Obama's so-called "moderate" cabinet hirings fool you, as it seems to have so many, as this man is a clear and present danger to the freedoms we hold dear.

Guns potentially under the gun of taxation

Glenn Beck is an economics idiot, but he did point out one morning as I was cruising down the road that the way The Shahinshah will deal with guns is not by banning but by draconian taxation.  Hey, why not?  As said in McCulloch v. Maryland back in 1817, "The power to tax is the power to destroy."

Hence, people are loading up on guns now in anticipation that they will become unaffordable in the near future on The Shahinshah's whim.

And of course, this will be another case where a government policy...not free trade, the evil Chinese, and whatever populist boogeyman you wish to cite, will destroy an industry.  I would imagine that the firearms industry - from manufacture to sales - is quite large in the United States.  What do you think will happen to that industry if they are taxed to the point where customers will not afford their products?  Well, that's okay, I guess, because they will be put to work by the government on roads and bridges...

I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. I can't tell if there were layoffs there, or if they are discontinuing the news department altogether. My friend who is the editorial director of MTV News (or now, apparently, was the editorial director), hasn't said much more as of yet.

I'm watching his facebook page for any updates.

MTV, however, will likely continue unfettered.

LIB-MEDIA GUNS TO TURN ON JINDAL

 THE SNIPING GAME: JINDAL NEXT

As
the political star of La. Governor Bobby Jindal soars the Louisiana
liberal media turns to its main instinctive enjoyable duty…sniping.
Sniping any Republican (aka conservative) with national aspirations or
even “another term” aspirations is their “bag”. The former is their
high excitement “target rich” environment. Oh, how it motivates them.

In a state with a long history of criminal or inept democrat
governors ruling the roost along with their legislative enablers we
have the bold and bashing biased lib-media back “on the hunt”. A state
known for corruption and indicted state officeholders (aka democrats)
while much of the lib-media looked the other way or excused way too
much because it was their “soul bro socialist democrats” shaming our
state.

This same lib-media will move the “achievement bar” up a mile and
systematically do two things; actually investigate and then frame
(manage) the news to match their agenda (facts or context disregarded
at will). Jindal can do 5x the reform of any two democrats and they
will snipe, he can reform any aspect of the government and its going to
be framed as “but”, “however” and that beloved phrase of all liberal
media when speaking to or about a conservative….”some critics say”…God,
how they love that one.

Never forget this will also be a national thing as far as the
lib-media can take it. This is one of the main reasons any conservative
must have only live interviews. Sit down with the biased lib-media and
the edit will be sure to cast doubt on you or worse. Perfection is the
minimum goal all of a sudden. The “glass half full” will now be always
“half empty” despite the “good ole boy legislature obstacles.

Over 30 years of watching this is enough for me to “get it” (the
pattern). I hope both the voters and the Louisiana Republican Party do
too.

Doug Schexnayder, Ph.D. (theconservativecrawfish)

Thanks for the heads up

This is one of the main reasons any conservative
must have only live interviews. Sit down with the biased lib-media and the edit will be sure to cast doubt on you or worse.

I sure agree with this. Bobby is one sharp guy. They will have to jump through many hoops to proove him incompatant.

Also we have Bobby's back here in La, I have already written the Picayune a few times about some of there misinformation about Jindals policies. Unfortunatly combating media bias is a full time job, considering those that do it are employed full time.

Thanks

"Television is a freak show" Bernie Goldberg

Yes. People are concerned about riots and worsening times.

I think of New Orleans and i think confiscation.   Some people i know say that their guns will NOT be taken from them.   Taxation seems reasonable for the time being.   I've never seen such an interest in concealed carry permits and the nra has reduced the price of their packets for ccp instructors.  Don't forget ammo.

What we Need

The great Fred Thompson is back in his leather chair, pontificating on the state of the economy, and the "wisdom" of the flood of bailout packages..."like telling a fat man to eat more donuts to lose weight".  The man is brilliant.

Oh how I wish the clowns in Congress would grow a pair and say even one tenth of what Fred says in this video.

Here's a link to Fredpac....promoting conservative candidates.  Worth a look considering the pack of surrender monkeys we now have serving in The Circus.

 I heart Fred Thompson. I

I heart Fred Thompson. I hope he becomes Bobby Jindal's Secretary of State in '12.

The question

The question, Gun sales rising because of Obama! For me personally, the answer is very obvious.

I am also a member of the NRA, we get bulletins and updates regularly about people running for office, getting elected, etc. The Rifleman magazine, that comes with the membership, always has indexes you can scan thru to see how Congressman are rated on their attitude toward gun ownership.

Obama has made it clear thru thought, word, and deed, his stance on weapons except,.....when he changes his stance for a particular moment, and crowd. He did the same thing with the Old Glory lapel pin; the hand over the heart for the Star Spangled Banner, and when you take the time to notice these things, it's so obvious the man is shallow, will change on a dime to suit the moment, so......

The people are reading between the lines since there seems to be a lot of uncertainty and lack of trust. They don't want to get caught short if some off the wall legislation comes down, that will diminish our Constitutional rights to keep and bear arms. There are other reasons too.

Guns for those that want

Guns for those that want them.

The Schumers of the world will get there authorized licensed guns to protect themselves from a deranged public.  The criminals/gangs/terrorist/... will have a lucrative black market expand to supply there wants.  Think of our out of control Mexican border.

Remember running joke about the unarmed London police.

"Stop or I will shout stop again."

In Mumbai, the police [3] in the hotel had guns but did not use them.

Recent reports on Chicago, St Louis, New Orleans..... neighborhood crimes ratings and increases can be Goggled.

   - Look at response times to actual crime assistance calls.

   - St. Louis Councilman: Tells Citizens to Get Armed Due to Police Inaction!

Fortunately, we have more good citizens than not. Therefore, I would continue to support the right for full licensed access to guns and ammo.  With that said, I do not support the ownership of fully automatic assault weapons.

To offset the increase in the black market sale of arms the penalty should reflect the same end-result.  No long-term taxpayer supported prison terms but the death penalty dealt to those that would deal in death.

Let’s quit our whining and act as adults- we do not and will not have a perfect world.

We need to treat firearms with the respect they deserve:  They can be as unforgiving as the criminal element but you do have control over your firearm.

------ bigger picture or fear mongering as some see it-------------------

We can not rely on our media or politicians to report news on any subject.

Mossberg is a fine weapon, but I reckon that something like this, loaded with this or this will do in a pinch. ;-) Unless of course your preparing to repel a home invasion by multiple intruders and then something like this may be more appropriate.

Absolutely it's the Big

Absolutely it's the Big O effect, anytime Americans are afraid of a possible totalitarian government, they move to arm themselves.

There is a lot of talk on this thread regarding what kind of gun to buy.   I would like to remind you of the first rule of successful gun fighting:

Rule 1: Have a gun.

Caliber and capacity are secondary to rule one.  In addition, except for being unable to afford a certain model, cost is irrelevent.  Buy the best gun you can.  You wouldn't buy a cheap pacemaker would you?  A gun is like that, your life may depend on it someday.

If you own a gun, be careful with it, you are responsible for every bullet that leaves it.  Buy a gun safe and a lock box for your car.  Get good with it.  There are some great classes out there.  Spend some time with it.  Ruth and I like to go to a local gun range and rent guns to shoot.  Great fun and you get to try different types (little pricey though).  But, as Lenin taught us, Happiness is a warm gun (he's rolling over in his grave right now).  And for goodness sakes, if you live in a state that has one, get a concealed carry permit (see rule 1, above).

Amen, Ben.  Speaking as a

Amen, Ben.  Speaking as a guy who topped the class in training quals for CCW with an old wheelgun when all the young pups were wavin' wonder 9s, I say you've got it right.  Get it, train with it, carry it, and pray you never to have to use it.  But be ready if you do.

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

 With gun sales so strong,

With gun sales so strong, maybe we should be asking which gun stocks we should buy too? Might be a good way to recoup recent stock market losses.

"Libs never let you down. You don't have to talk to one very long before the stupid comes out."

  Yeah, until they are

Yeah, until they are forced into bankruptcy by the non stop liberal lawsuits. I might stay on the sidelines for a while if I were you.

That's what sell orders are for. You don't make money sitting on the sidelines.

 Drudge says that Obama to

Drudge says that Obama to fire nearly all of the 600 appointees at the pentagon. Where is the news media on this? I seem to recall a non-stop non-scandle scandle when Bush got rid of most of Clintons justice department employees? Whats the difference?

 vicis pro insurgo est propinquus

Duh yeah.  One look at

Duh yeah.  One look at Chicago, the murder capitol of the US should tell you something about Obama.  They have gun control so as a result only the police and gangbangers have the guns.  What's happened so far?

 Homicides 1990-2007
     1990: 851
     1991: 927
     1992: 943
     1993: 931
     1994: 929
     1995: 827
     1996: 789
     1997: 759
     1998: 704
     1999: 641
     2000: 628
     2001: 666
     2002: 647
     2003: 598
     2004: 448
     2005: 449
     2006: 467
     2007: 442

In 2008 they are expecting around 500 murders, so far they are on track.  447 as of November 7th.

So my question is this, did the community organizer, Barack Obama wear a flackjacket? Or was he safely behind the scenes making nice with the gang bangers? Maybe Obama should explain to us how his leadership kept the form of killings to drive bys and hits instead of IEDs. You do realize it is literally safer in Iraq than in Chicago?????  Even BEFORE the success of the surge!

So the nation elected a Chicago politician whose track record on domestic tranquility would legitimize Al Sadr. Basically what Obama has in mind for the country is using Chicago as the template where the gang bangers and the police have the guns and the citizens are at the mercy of both. And we’re the bitter religious people clinging to our guns???? Does this give you a snapshot of what Obama’s administration is going to be??? FECKLESS

Now let's contrast this easily gotten information with the McCain campaign's response to bitter clinging to their guns comment by Obama.  Zip, nada, nothing... What's that you say?  The public should have been told about the swimming success of gun control in Chicago advocated by Obama????

Hilarious Limbaugh/Shanklin parody today based on the Abba classic...

BARNEY FRANK: BANKING QUEEN

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same...
Yours is the earth and all that's in it...

Banking Queen/Barney Fwank

I only have a second here...be back later now, but I am wondering has anybody else heard the new parody on Rush with Paul Shanklin called The Banking Queen (from a take-off of course on Abba's The Dancing Queen)...it is hilarious.

Just wondering....I've heard it twice now...and I'm still laughing.

Clue?

Hmmmm, why's this guy doing the work that all the people here with capital R's after their names should be doing?

Of course, sadly, it's not surprising given the state of the Republican Party.

As for the gun issue, I recommend this. Also, don't forget this. Oh, and in case you want to reach out and touch someone, I highly recommend this. But, if home defense is what your after, then try this or this.

Young Somali men in MN disappearing...Are they jihad recruits?

This is from Fox News and it is very interesting...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,461865,00.html

If the government can verify that these men are in fact in Somalia as jihad recruits, there is no way I'd allow them re-entry into the US, and if they show up trying to re-enter, I'd arrest them.

YES!

AR-15 style rifles are flying of the racks in the Seattle area. No worries here, I got mine before that talking jackass was elected. FYI if you want great protection, none come better than the Glock 27 in .40 S&W. My primary carry.

The best car gun you can

The best car gun you can have (and my highly recomended personal favorite) is the venerable Smith & Wesson Model 66 Combat Magnum. The 2.5" barrel version is best, as the four-incher is too long for car duty. Its stainless steel, and will last forever. Make sure you replace the cheesy little stock wood grips with rubber ones, though.

When you buy it, put 25-30 rounds through it, take it to a good gunsmith, have a trigger job done to smooth it out a little (but not to lighten the pull) plus have the cock notch removed, which will make it double-action only, and be sure and have the thumb tab removed from the hammer and the rear sight replaced with a low profile one, which will lessen the chance of the weapon snagging on anything at the worst possible time.

Load with Federal 125g JHP's and have at least two speed loaders handy.

For the house, its the Glock Model 21. 45ACP. Far fewer parts than a 1911 A1. This gun really needs no aftermarket work whatsoever, unless you want a different trigger weight (prefferably a little heavier). Load with 240g JHPs for DRT stopping power a 9mm is incapable of coming anywhere near.

For under the bed, its any good quality, short barrel pump-action 12 guage. Load so that a slug will be the first shot out of the barrel (in case you want to plug the bad guy before he comes through the door) followed by three loads of 000.

LOL-Nothing sends the bad guys scrambling better than the sound of that slide being racked.

More on guns

I need to go skeet-shooting again.  I loved firing 12-gauge over-unders.  I have only fired shot from them; I can only imagine what a slug from one would do to the poor unfortunate SOB who picked YOUR house to rob.

Evetually I need one handgun, a quality over-under 12 gauge, and a rifle.

"THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING!!!  A WAR ON FREEWILL IS COMING!!!" - Nevermore, "Bittersweet Feast", from This Godless Endeavor (2005)

I trapshoot with a Rem 1100

I trapshoot with a Rem 1100 30" FC 12ga.  I skeet with a Rem 1100 25 1/2 " IC  28ga.  Usually shoot a 48 or 49 trap and 44 - 46 skeet.  gettin' old.

I HAVE fired a rifled slug from the 12ga. on a 100yd rifle range.  The darn thing shoots like a rifle.

the reason?

this, this, this, and of course this.
oh and this..
oh and look a whole website..

as for us we have 4 total firearms : all legal.  Lots of ammo : all legal.  All are tightly double locked in a safe.  So, no need to stock up.  However we regularly make sure they are all in good, clean and operating condition.

Daily Newspaper Endorsements: Obama - 287 McCain - 159

Editor&Publisher reports: the final tally for daily newspaper endorsement stood at Obama -287 and McCain - 159. The circulation of the Obama-backing papers stands at over 23 million, compared with McCain's over 9 million.

In the 2004 election E&P reports that John Kerry barely edged George W. Bush in endorsements of dailies 213 to 205.

Well over 50 papers switched to Obama from Bush in 2004, with less than half a dozen flipping to McCain.

A list of the daily newspapers and their endorsement are included in the Editor&Publisher report.

Is there anyone here at NewsBusters that is surprised by this report?

"There is no longer a media in this country.  There is simply an established propaganda arm for the Democrat Party and any and all who relate to it in any way, elected and unelected." ~ Rush Limbaugh

RF...No surprise here...

And thanks for the great info!!

What I think is most interesting is the difference between the number of papers that endorsed Bush in '04, but then went for Obama this year, and the small number that switched to McCain.

I remember thinking in '04 that the media bias then was over-the-top...Now upon reflection, it is clear that 2004 pales in comparison to the unadulterated, nausea-inducing media love-fest for Obama that we have witnessed in this election.

Sadly, I think that a point of no return has been reached with the MSM...Sean Hannity has said that this is the year that journalism in America died...Unfortunately, I think he's right.

ALF and Joe Biden

Just something funny to share with you from my "retro" blog entry today (a recap of the journal I kept 20 years ago when I was a young foreign exchange student in England)...

I made a comment about watching an episode of "ALF" on TV, where he made the following comment:

"If I may quote Joe Biden, 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself.'"

Wow, 20 years later, ALF is still topical. Whoda thunk?

All I want for Christmas------

Absolute truth...When I went to bed election night I felt a sense of panic, a feeling of I'm going to have to defend myself. Obama comes from Chicago, a place that's lawless, could America become the same? I had visions of "people" hanging out of car windows shooting indiscriminately, throwing Molotov cocktails, necklacing the poor fool who is caught out after dark.

For Christmas I've asked Santa for a Mini-14 along with 20, 30 round magazines and a ton of .223 ammo, I've been a good boy, please.

"He's a loathsome offensive brute, though I can't look away."

for your consideration, i know everyone says get a pump shotgun

but, do you have the presence of mind to remember to cycle the action after a shot. personally, i've seen people who i thought were rock solid shake in a crisis so, maybe an autoloader would be better...and, this thing is going to be LOUD when it goes off. remember, you forgot the ear plugs. not like at the range. 00 buck will remove limbs at close range, a hit in the torso is very likely to be fatal. also, with all deference to gary cooper, unless the people are total  freak'in nut jobs (which they probably are if they're doing a night-time burglary/ home invasion)  they probably will leave after being wounded and or, encountering armed resistance. also, i know everyone wants to get an ar-15, fn/fal,ak etc. all these use hi-powered ammo that goes through detroit doors, aluminium siding, schools etc. and can travel for MILES. my fal puts a .308 through a big fat telephone pole at 100 yards nice and clean. this ain't "pork chop hill". need to think about where those rounds will go. something simple like a snub nose .357 with a short hammer spur. even the wife can use it. lots of noise and knock-down even if it's loaded with .38 jhp.  my father picked up my brothers mossberg that had (stupidly) one in the pipe . it went off and blew a nice size hole in the side of the house. we put a dryer vent over it to cover the hole....

Those are the main (not all) the reasons I can come up with why some might want to be (better) armed and prepared.  Oh, consider stocking up on food, too...just a suggestion.

Hey Dave...

Wow, just saw this today...last I knew as you were the last person I posted with back and forth last evening before I closed out early for me anyway... you weren't saying anything about going anywhere...what the heck are you talking about here?

Anybody know?

I'll be trying to get in touch...hope you aren't leaving.

Count me as another one concerned.

What's up Dave?

Don't remember that, dscott

There are some people here who seem to know why he's leaving.

Someone fill us in.

Howdy dscott... Yeah he

Howdy dscott...

Yeah he did, but this seems totally out of the blue and the circumstances were different then if memory serves me right...(which it may not)...

Nevertheless...I hope it isn't so...he has added much needed humor, wit and knowledge of his own here over the years that I will miss.

Sometimes we didn't agree on all, like no two people can all the time, but he usually made me grin, and I hope him, seeing things from a different perspective or view-point sometimes can always help each other now and then.

I just hope he is alright...last I saw, he was in a jovial mood...but I did close out early last night.
