Appearing on the Election Day eve edition of "Fox & Friends," MRC's Brent Bozell reacted to the how the media, starting with the San Francisco Chronicle, hit the proverbial snooze button with Sen. Barack Obama's remarks about bankrupting the coal industry:
Everyone talks about the need for alternative energy.... The problem is that everytime an alternative comes forward, someone on the Left always shoots it down. That's why you don't have more growth in the coal industry or in the nuclear industry. The reason these things never come to the fore is because on the Left, they're always shot down in the final analysis. And Barack Obama just said it again, he's going to do it.
During the segment, co-host Brian Kilmeade noted that a McCain staffer Rick Davis said simply of the media's coverage of the campaign, "it sucked." Bozell agreed, hitting the media for bias by omission:
BRENT BOZELL, MRC President: When you see the public by a factor of 10-to-1 understands that the media are out to get Sarah Palin, that's good. On the other hand, what the public doesn't know is that all the stories that aren't being covered by the media. It's the bias by omission. If they listen to talk radio, they'll hear it. If they watch your news program, they'll understand it. But if they're watching ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC and the like, there are all these stories about Barack Obama they simply do not know.
BRIAN KILMEADE, co-host: Alright. And I'm sure if it wouldn't if it wasn't actually on tape, and people would say they've been misquoted.

"Hit the snooze button"?
November 3, 2008 - 13:41 ET by Chris Norman"Hit the snooze button"? Mr. Bozell was understating. That sounds so passive. I say the media has deliberately unplugged all their clocks this election and hidden them in a closet. On top of that, they've been deliberately reporting the incorrect time.

I agree, Chris, it was WAY
November 3, 2008 - 14:01 ET by motherbeltI agree, Chris, it was WAY more that snoozing. It was deliberately ignoring, if not actively covering up.
I've seen a lot of shady news coverage (and I don't mean from the "shady" website Newsbusters LOL) and have never seen anything like this.
However, a thought occurred to me a little while ago while I was fuming over this:
Everyone is angry that this is only coming out in the past couple of days. Maybe that's a good thing. Had it come out earlier, Obama would have had weeks, maybe months to reverse course with all sorts of flip-flops and "recalibrated" statements, and this (along with Biden's claim of No coal plants!) would be getting brushed off now as "old news."
But now he's hoist on his own petard, and there's no time to refute it.
The question is, will it matter?
The snooze button remark
November 3, 2008 - 14:08 ET by Ken ShepherdThe snooze button remark wasn't Bozell's, it was mine in writing up the post.
But you're right, it's more like the media unplugging the clock and dreaming sweet dreams of an Obamessianic reign.
ken, Rush Limbaugh
November 3, 2008 - 15:06 ET by Chris Normanken,
Rush Limbaugh wondered today about the motivation of many Obama voters, outside the party faithful and his fanatic core. He said he couldn't understand why so many voters don't or can't see Obama as the radical he really is. I humbly submit these people are the ones who get their political information only from the Mainstream Media, and as such, are basing their decisions on warped and deliberately withheld information about Obama.

Flux Capacitor
November 3, 2008 - 14:20 ET by Lamb-chopThe media haven't hit the "Snooze Button;" rather, their DeLorean has jumped ahead to an alternate-universe November 5th in which the all-knowing, all-seeing Barack Obamessiah has won the election. And having won the election, none of the stories the media have omitted, suppressed, manufactured, and twisted will matter. That is, until Obama's Civilian Militia marches into their studios and takes over.
Bias by Omission
November 3, 2008 - 14:07 ET by Gary HallBias by Omission. Brent Bozell nailed it there.
Actually there's an additional element to it, which is really twisted. In the end, what is happening here is that it's actually up to the McCain camp to report the news to the voters, as the MSM is not reporting the news. Then, the MSM attacks the McCain camp for being negative.
In fact, the only way in which most of the voters (especially on the D side) are finding out about most of these "news stories" is when our national MSM attacks McCain or Palin for bringing them up - a heck of a way for the voters to find out about what the MSM doesn't want them to know. (:~> gary
Snooze or Choose?
November 3, 2008 - 15:37 ET by mgindi26The MSM did not snooze this story (or fir that matter the La Times Video Story) what they did was CHOOSE. the Chose not to cover this story which can effect millions both in the coal industry as well as those us us with effected higher energy prices. No, rather than cover stories like this the MSM finds it ore important to cover that a couple of jokers from Canada prank called Sarah Palin. Or it's a bigger story to report that over 20 years ago Cindy McCain was on painkillers. Or perhaps the pricetag on Sarah Palin's wardrobe. These are the pressing issues of our time.
But when it comes to the character, and judgement of the man who (G-D forbid) may be the leader of this country. Issues that show that this man is completely ill equipped for the title of President. To be honest i don't even think I would elect him as dog catcher.
As far as the MSM goes to be honest i have umplugged and disconnected from them long ago. I have eliminated television from my home. And if I read the paper it may only be if i ask someone on my commuter bus if i could check it out for a minute. But insulating myself from the poison of the press is not enough. I need to know what is being said by them in order to counter their effects on my friends who still have a hard time believing the the Times could be biased. Trust me though you can easily get along with radio and internet. The rest is just noise.
Oh and if Obama loses it won't be because of racism. It will be because of people like us that got the truth out. And if they want to blame racism the only racism that will take votes away from "the one" will be democrat racism because the only votes he should rely on is democrats the white republicans weren't voting for him anyway.
Thanks NB!
November 3, 2008 - 16:03 ET by ammo johnI discovered Newsbusters in 2006 when I was activated and worked at Hill AFB in Utah. Seeing Michelle Malkin's website on an interview she did on FNC, I then found the link to here. I want to thank all of the contributors who really opened my eyes to the sham and scam the liberal media has put upon the American people (and those abroad, too). Many a link has been sent to family and friends. Thanks again!
OBAMA: No balls. Just ACORN nuts.
