For general discussion and debate. Possible talking point: Round Three!

Any honest assessment of the first two debates would conclude that McCain did okay -- at best! -- but routinely missed opportunities to knock his Obama down or out. Is this what he needs to do this evening? Is this a do or die for his campaign, and anything less than a clear victory ending with at least a TKO will send McCain back to the Senate to finish his career?

Or is the situation less dire than the typically biased polls are suggesting, and McCain just needs to calmly and methodically make his case to the American people why he is the better choice to steer this nation through the current minefield?

I thought McCain was doing

I thought McCain was doing a pretty good job of jabbing Obama at the last campaign speech I saw him give.  If only he would take some of THAT to the debate, (Not the part where he is defending Obama and calling him a decent family man, but the part where he is saying that Obama is not telling us the truth about who he is.)  I still want to know what happened with the Birth Certificate that never was produced. (And why not a peep in ANY of the media.)

What happens if Obama is

What happens if Obama is elected and we find out that he WAS born in Kenya and he has been elected illegally?  What then??  President Biden?

Knock Him Out

I'm afraid it won't happen but McCain needs to give Obama several one-two punches and knock him so far he runs after whimpering.  And the louder the MSM protests the more we will know McCain was successful and that the MSM is running scared.  I don't necessarily believe the polls but I don't think it's relevant as to whether or not McCain's circumstances are dire.  Obama needs to be called on all of his b.s. and the Dem lies one after another.  Go for it McCain show you got a pair and energize your base like never before.  Otherwise, throw in the towel and look like the chump you did in the last 2 debates.

This is your last chance John.

I wish he would put in terms of...

....BHO is the most liberal Senator in DC.  He is to the left of Teddy Kennedy and Bernie Sanders (Socialist-VT).

The country will have a San Francisco liberal as the Speaker of the House and a real estate shyster as Senate Majority Leader with a filibuster proof majority.

Are you, the American people, prepared to pay higher taxes, have bigger government, see greater spending and debt, accept a less aggressive approach to the GWOT, watch your children endure public school political indoctrination the likes this country has never seen, and suffer the greatest intrustion of big liberal government into your lives in our history?

If so, then BHO is your man.

If not, vote for me, and vote for the Republican candidates for Congress and the Senate.

If the earth were flat we

If the earth were flat we wouldn't have this problem. Huaarin Obama would have already fallen off the left side of it.

Last night I had the misfortune...

...of stumbling across Rachel Maddow (who is truly one of the most revolting people on TV I have ever seen and absolutely makes my skin crawl) interviewing Oliver Stone.  They got onto the topic of "preventive war" and somehow redefined it from taking action in order to prevent an attack on American interests to attacking in order to prevent any country from becoming a rival of the United States.

These people have lost what little minds they've ever had.

These are debates?!

Let's see: four "debates," all on college campuses, four extremely liberal MSM moderators, gotcha questions about the economy, and a "town hall" audience with Obama supporters sprinkled in....These are not "debates," ladies and gentlemen; they are blatantly staged events designed to help The One.

I Blame McCain

Why was McCain so dumb to agree to liberal moderators?  Does he still think the MSM is his friend?  He should have demanded that one of the debates be handled by Fox News.  One out of the four should have been handled by the network that pulls in the most viewers.

Drinking game rules for tonight's press conf....err, debate.

Time to set the rules for the drinking games.

For Barack: For every time he says "middle class" you take a shot. For
every time he says "but what the American people really want to talk about" or
some derivative of "its the economy" you eat a jalapeno. By the end of the
session any continence or bowel problems you might have should be taken care of.

For McCain: Not so easy, this is going to be a little subjective. Let's
just say that every time The Chosen One tees it up for McCain, and McCain wiffs,
you hit the bottle. You'll pass out before this mess is over.

McCain

No gimmicks, no tricks, no new plans. If McCain tries to win through competing plans, he's toast.

  • He can win on philosophy. Instead of dwelling on "what," he needs to dwell on "why." Obama's program is egalitarianism, where being equal is more important than anyone making a profit. By his own words, Obama wants to tax capital gains to penalize people who do well, simply because they're doing better than others. He brags about only taxing businesses making $250k or more, but the small businesses under $250k usually create only a couple of jobs, and often just minimum wage jobs to college kids. We need more than that. We need businesses that can create twenty or thirty new jobs, "dad-paying" jobs. But those businesses will be taxed under Obama's plan, because he thinks it'll be more fair. That's Obama's philosophy.
  • McCain can say that on the other hand, his philosophy is traditional capitalism, regulating the market only when necessary, but when it is necessary, to do it. He can then point to his own bill to regulate Fannie and Freddie, introduced years ago. To the Barney Frank defense that when the GOP was in "complete control" they failed to pass legislation, let McCain note that through all that time, the GOP never had a commanding majority, and needed bipartisan support to pass reforms ... but never got any help from Democrats. Obama voted "present."

By the way, remember before the other two debates, the media advocated that McCain was playing on his "home turf" (either the topic of foreign affairs or the town-hall format)? So, that meant the burden was on McCain to do much better? Has anyone heard the media mention that tonight's topic (the economy) and the format (roundtable)  is supposed to be Obama's "home turf," and that by the same standard, Obama has to do much better than McCain? [crickets chirping] ...

McCain

IMO, McCain's only victory was Rick Warren's Saddleback Forum.  Since then he acts like he's not interested in beating Obama.  He needs to grab the reigns and knock Obama off his game.

Can McCain do what he needs to do??

Up to this point, I just haven't seen anything that would indicate a frontal assault on Obama during tonight's debate.  Sure, McCain talks up a storm during these rally events, but he has not shown us anything so far that would instill confidence for tonight.

 That worries me.

His problem is that he must walk such a fine line in these debates since the MSM will take anything he says out of context and spin it to make him look bad.  If he gets angry, they will paint him as a crotchety old man, so he must be very careful.

Additionally, I would not expect the moderator to provide McCain with too many openings on the pertinent issues. McCain's going to have to find a way to bring the issues up himself, and I don't have a great amount of confidence in him to do so.

Besides, I will be watching the Phillies clinch tonight instead!!

Shallow Thinking

Last Friday I ask a white woman in the parking lot here at work why she was supporting Obama. She said it was to show the world that we were not racist. I walked off before I said something I might regret.

Then I run across this today from and interview with Richard Belzer of Law and Order: SUV that ran in the New York Entertainment magazine.

What's the feeling about the election in France, where I know you spend a lot of your time? They're Obama crazy in France. They're writing songs about him; they've got him on T-shirts. The Europeans I know, they were worried that Bush kept talking to God. The fact that Obama is not shoving religion down everybody's throat is very comforting. Plus, a person of color would really send a message to the rest of the world that we're not all white, warmongering racists.

This is what I called shallow thinking.

If Obama wins, the dem party crashes in four years

I know predicting the future is far from an accurate science, but here I go anyway. Tell me if you think I'm wrong...

As a legislator with no record of accomplishment, anti-growth views of the economy, naive views on military matters and the consequences of surrender, and a national security policy that is void of reason, Obama is bound to fail in a time of economic downturn, a winning military effort, and a war on terror. When legislation is passed through a fillibuster-proof dem-majority Senate, and a dem House that defies sense, and a signing pen ready to make our country worse, voter anger at what his party has done to our country will turn Obama and his whole party into a beast that people want to avoid like the plague. A Giuliani or a Jindal who have a record of vast executive achievement will step forward four years later and not only reverse all BHO and Congress did to us, but also take out old broken institutions like Social Security, the income tax, corporate taxes, Medicare, Section 8 housing, Medicaid, and all derivations of the welfare state.

It may be a hard four years, but if Obama wins we may finally get rid of the dem party altogether.

If Obama wins, the dem party crashes in four years

Only one problem, the MSM (who control this country) will continue to spin and cover up who/what are responsible for the problem.

I am not optimistic for the republic.

Yeah....good luck with that. Once it becomes law, it ain't going away. That's why Roe v. Wade is still here 30 years later; that's why social security is still with us 70 years later; and that's why nationalized health care, income redistribution, abortion with no restrictions, etc, etc will be with us long after they get implemented under an Obama presidency.

The way to "undo" these things is by preventing them in the first place.

Post Turtle

Here is a joke that was posted by SpecialistMC in comments in today's Washington Times.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a Texas Rancher whose hand had been caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually, the topic got around to Obama and his bid for the presidency.

The old rancher said, Well, ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked, ‘What is a post turtle’?

The old rancher said, When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain.

‘You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he sure as heck doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there and you just wonder what kind of an idiot put him there in the first place.’

"The devil is a better theologian that any of us and is a devil still" A.W. Tozer

In my opinion,

Sen. McCain MUST link the economic turmoil to FN & FH, show it was the Dems and Obama that were propping up these sick institutions so they could force banks to "redistribute" their wealth in the form of mortgages for  people who should never have received one.

He also must point out Barak's associations with far left radicals/socialist/marxist criminals and racist people such as Ayers, Wright,Pfleger and Rezko.

Also hammer home his taxes are nothing more than punishing people who do well by increasing their tax burden and taking that money and giving it to people who DON'T pay taxes.

I wish Sen. McCain was more of a fighter, he asked us to fight for him when he accepted the nomination but I feel he has been to restrained at going after Obamo and any and all lies and discrepancies that he makes.

So...if Obama's face

So...if Obama's face scratching was actually flipping HRC the bird, and if "57 states" was a reference to Muslim terrorist leanings...

...what does it mean when McCain says "My fellow prisoners"?

I'm curious, because my tendency is to say "nothing," but I've been told I'm wrong.

Looks to me like you just broke ranks with your "tendency"

Underdog & Pitbull 08

Well it's apparent to many that I'm "dead wrong" on the previous situations, so what do you say he meant by it?

»→ My fellow prisoners

"My fellow prisoners"

It's perplexing unless you attribute it to a reference to some time in his past.  He was, after all, a prisoner for five years.

Think of it along the lines of Obama's "My Muslim faith" comment, except there was no Stephanopolis ready with a quick correction.

Hope that helps clear things up.

Here is what McCain needs

Here is what McCain needs to do:

1) He absolutely has to bring up what an Obama admin and Democratic
majority congress led by Pelosi would do with your rights to keep and
bear arms. Obama has said that "he couldn't take them away if he wanted
to because he wouldn't have the votes". He would. He was against the DC
ban. Bring it up in the debate. He has a consistent record of being
anti-gun possession. This would also give Obama's campaign what they
have been whining about, BRINGING UP THE ISSUES. OK, here's an issue.
FOR GOD'S SAKE JOHN, NAIL HIM ON IT! VA, AR, TN, MI and other states
CAN go your way when you show that Obama wants to take their rights
away. Why do you think Obama's campaign ISN'T bringing this subject
up??!! They are afraid of this issue that cost Gore the election.

2) Regarding the plumber being told by Obama that he wants to
"spread the wealth around". The New York Post had a snippet that McCain
should use over and over and over again the next few weeks...."trickle
up economics"! That's what Socialism is. Obama said as much. Use it on
him. MY GOD JOHN, USE IT ON HIM!!!

3) Bring up what a liberal president with a liberal Congress would be like for America. Just do it.

If I could ask any question tonight, and oh how I wish I could, it would be this:

"Senators McCain and Obama,

Do you both believe that the 2nd Amendment is talking about the
rights of individuals to keep and bear arms. I am not talking about
hunting or sportsman either, I mean the right to keep guns for self
defense and against possible tyranny.

Also, would you pledge to live under the same gun laws you'd
propose for the citizens of the United States as President? If not,
isn't that the very definition of "tyranny" and why the 2nd Amendment
was created by our founders?

Sorry if I sound a bit rant-like but, I feel so frustrated with
McCain. It's like he has a killer playbook for a football game and he's
sitting on it. Is there any way we can get this to McCain? Can anyone
explain to me why McCain isn't bringing up a winning issue like guns? I
mean, does anyone else agree with me on this? Is there anything we can
do about it?

OBAMA CAMPAIGN ISSUES TALKING POINTS TO MEDIA AHEAD OF DEBATE
Wed Oct 15 2008 11:13:03 ET

The Obama campaign issued a set of debate 'talking points' to media on Wednesday morning, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

Press Secretary Sean Smith issued the directive in an email from Pennsylvania, 12 hours before the debate.

The memo oddly mirrors much of the main press analysis and theme of the current campaign:

-------- Original Message --------
Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2008 09:37:27 -0500
From: Sean Smith [s***mith@barackobama.com]
To: Sean Smith [s***mith@barackobama.com]

* This is John McCain's last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn't disqualify him from being President.

* Just this weekend the weekend, John McCain vowed to "whip Obama's you-know-what" at the debate, and he's indicated that he'll be bringing up Bill Ayers to try to distract voters.

* So we know that Senator McCain will come ready to attack Barack Obama and bring his dishonorable campaign tactics to the debate stage.

Obama continues to lead on the economic crisis with a rescue plan for Main Street.

* Over the course of the campaign, Barack Obama has laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle class and strengthen our economy.

* But he knows we face an immediate economic emergency that requires urgent action - on top of the plans he's already laid out - to help workers and families and communities struggling right now.

* That's why Barack Obama is introducing a comprehensive four-part Rescue Plan for the Middle Class - to immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners.

* This is a plan that can and should be implemented immediately.

* Obama has shown steady leadership during this crisis and offered concrete solutions to move the country forward - and his Rescue Plan for the Middle Class builds on the plans to strengthen the economy and rebuild the middle class that he's laid out over the course of this campaign.

* Already in this campaign, he's unveiled plans to give 95 percent of workers and their families a tax cut, eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000, bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses; and create millions of new jobs by investing in the renewable energy sources.

* John McCain has been erratic and unsteady since this crisis began - staggering from position to position and trying to change the subject away from the economy by launching false character attacks.

END

Nothing about guns.That's

Nothing about guns. That's because Obama's campaign knows better and apparently, McCain doesn't. Not one freakin' word about it and we have Palin who appeals immensely to the proud gun owners of America.

He isn't expecting it. McCain can stun him tonight if he brings up Obama's radical anti-gun record. Bring up Ayers, sure. But also bring up gun ownership. Bring up a Democratic congress and President. Bring up Pelosi. Link Obama to her. These are ISSUES. Issues are what Obama wants to talk ab out so, let him have it!

If he doesn't. It's over and McCain sqaundered a golden opportunity to win. Gore lost because of the gun issue. Doesn't McCain know this? Obama knows it. Make him talk about it.

What I want to hear ...

I want McCain to talk about Joe the Plumber ... really talk about what Obama's tax plan would do to Joe's business. What his small business would be taxed for making $250k ... and what Joe wants to do with that money instead (put more trucks on the road based on the one interview he has done). McCain needs to put a PERSONAL face to Obama's tax and spend plans. We can relate to small business owners who want to expand their business ... and therefore employ more people. That is stuff everyone can understand.

If McCain can't compare the two plans for our economy in a very real way - talking specifics - I fear there is no way he can win this race.  Tell voters how what he would do is different than Obama -- how businesses like Joe's and your favorite neighborhood stores would benefit from his administration while being punished for success and hard work under Obama.

Underdog & Pitbull 08

I honestly don't know what to expect...

from McCain in this last debate. I keep hearing that many in the campaign want him to go after Obama on the Ayers issue, while others do not. Apparently, there is a BIG debate on which way to go on this, and there is no clear concensus. McCain has missed so many opportunities along the way in this campaign, not to mention in the debates, I don't know what to expect from him.

I guess my main concern, aside from hoping that he really goes after Obama on his ludicrous tax and economic distribution (socialist) plans and that he links Obama with Pelosi and Reid, is that he doesn't make any big gaffes. At this late date, I don't know how much good he can do himself, but I do think that it's possible for him to hurt himself.

We'll see...

I'd be real careful if I were the left trying to use this against McCain, there is much McCain can use to kill Obama with this if he tries, after-all they both voted for the bill...but we have Fred/Fannie...ACORN and Obama's ties let alone others in congress that are very much part of the reason for all of this..

...adn I'm not even going to go into oil, because McCain can't...he voted against drilling and being independent forever..now using the pork barrel issue as an excuse, well that dog won't hunt, he voted for the pork filled bail-out bill.

»→ Good ol' days

Tomorrow may be the last of the predictable "good ol' days".  I think the market has one more big rebound before the big dwindle.

If I can score another 5% this year, I'll count myself extra blessed.

Torture from the top?

In the news again today are allegations the Bush administration in the persons of Dick Cheney and others explicitly endorsed the waterboarding of terrorist suspects in US custody.

"The Bush administration issued a pair of secret memos to the CIA in 2003 and 2004 that explicitly endorsed the agency's use of interrogation techniques such as waterboarding against al-Qaeda suspects -- documents prompted by worries among intelligence officials about a possible backlash if details of the program became public." link

The trickle continues.  A little like Chinese water torture it seems.

I'd like to see someone launch a real investigation into this subject.  Let's have this debate out in the open.  Do we torture or don't we torture?  If we do, under what circumstances?  If we don't, why not?  In fact, those might make good debate questions tonight.

What we have now is a president that has said numerous times that "we don't torture," and then we have a steaming pile of evidence that would suggest otherwise. I don't like being lied to.  Reason with me.  I may still disagree with you, but at least you're treating me like an adult who can handle challenging ethical concepts.  There are a lot of Americans capable of rational thought who appreciate the truth.  Our leaders should respect that.

If we don't baby the terrorists, we are evil torturers

We DO torture. Why? Because we aren't spoiling the terrorists in the Waldorf Astoria and completely pampering their every single need.

Of course, when Americans are tortured - for one example, the mock executions the embassy hostages were subjected to in February 1980 - you applaud, because this nation deserves it. Right?

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

We need to start treating

We need to start treating terrorists like the democrats want to treat unborn babies - especially the partial birth method and treat unborn babies with the tender care they want to treat terrorists.

Woah there...

I was hoping for a more lengthy response, or at least a response that addressed my post.  Instead I get accused of... whatever you're accusing me of.

Never mind.

Oh, please quit your pathetic whining

No, I DID in fact address your post: you are just whining because the response was one you did not want to hear, or aren't prepared to address.

Before I set foot in another country for deployments, I am drilled relentlessly in things like the Laws of Armed Conflict.  You know, things like why wonton destruction isn't a good thing, when to take prisoners and what to do with them in accordance with the Geneva Convention, etc.

But, things like this you conveniently ignore.  And you whine things like "are we or are we not torturing people?"  People like you who whine constantly over the United States' treatment of POWs and enemy combatants are ALWAYS the very first to point the finger at the United States.  But you guys always forget some key things.  Like the fact that if we were playing by WWII rules, the enemy combatants wouldn't be getting fed three halal squares a day at Gitmo: they would be at the bottom of Gitmo feeding fish.  Or the fact that we do this in spite of the terrorists not behaving by Geneva Convention rules, much less being signatories.

And, as always, none of you ever utter ONE LITTLE PEEP about other violations of human rights and torture, like:

1) The 3000 killed in the World Trade Center towers for starters.  One account I read from first responders stated that the falling of bodies from the towers sounded much like dropped watermelons when they at last impacted the ground.  That's a sound and an association I am sure will stay with the first responders for the rest of their lives.  That's just one example I can think of off the top of my head.

2) What of the human rights of the flight attendants and pilots of those aircraft, to say nothing of those of the passengers?  Most of the flight attendants I have interacted with while flying over the years seem bitter, angry, and hostile; but I am a nice guy, and I sure as all hell never felt the urge to slit their throats with a boxcutter.  Nor have I ever felt the urge to do that to a pilot.

3) Let's look at some other cases.  How about the sailor who got beaten to death and unceremoniously tossed to the tarmac in Beirut off of TWA Flight 847 in 1985?  Those killed in Athens in 1986 when a TWA flight was bombed when it was on final approach to the airport there?  Those whacked in Rome and Vienna on 27 December 1985 for that horrible crime of flight check-in!!!  Among the dead was an 11-year-old American girl.  I can't begin to imagine what she did to p*** off the terrorists who sprayed her with lead.  What of HER human rights?

4) I already mentioned the embassy hostages of 1980...but take a gander through Guests of the Ayatollah by Mark Bowden anyways.

...and those are only a few cases I can think of off the top of my head as I am pressed for time.  Posters here can bring up many more I am sure.  But in NONE of those cases do I hear you or your ideological brethren uttering ONE LITTLE PEEP.

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

Woah, woah there...

I'm asking for honesty from our leadership, and you're ranting about human rights and blood and gore.  My focus is here, on our leadership, those people accountable to me.  I want the full story so I can inform my opinion.  I prefer to be an informed citizen rather than someone who accepts lies like a faithful reader of Pravda might.  You're telling me I'm a whiner.

I don't know you, so I'm not going to try to stereotype you based on my prejudices as you appear eager to do.  I will say this: you're wrong.

Whoa whoa whoa your own damn self

I'm asking for some honesty from a guilt-ridden Leftist poster.  (That you cry about "being stereotyped" makes me VERY suspicious that you are in fact yet another Leftist that is simply too ashamed to admit it.)  YOU are the one who brought up human rights by whining "do we or do we not torture?"

I think we are getting quite a bit of honesty.  Of course, you blew right past the example I submitted from my own experience: before I deploy, I HAVE to be trained in the Laws of Armed Conflict.  If this EVIL country and this EVIL leadership are exactly that, then why am I drilled in the Laws of Armed Conflict before I deploy?  I have seen more examples than I can count of us bending over backwards to accomodate our enemies and enemy combatants.  And you come in here and whine "do we or do we not torture?"

Implicit in your question is your desire to blast your own country for "torture", yet YOU DO NOT UTTER ONE LITTLE PEEP about the human rights of others.  Those examples I cited are just ones I can think of off of the top of my head.

And of course there is the pious whine about "my prejudices".  If you check my profile, you will see that I have been here for two and a half years.  I have seen whiners like you come and go many a time before.  It's much less "prejudice" (regardless of how confortable that makes you feel) than it is a reasoned judgment based on my history here.

I will say this: you're wrong.  Really?  Your word is not the Holy Writ here.  Prove it.

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA

We do torture people Kennedy killed Mary-Jo. Clinton killed hundreds in Waco. Clinton killed More people in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, The trail of bodies he and Hillary Disposed of are too many to count. If those aren't enough go count the bodies left by Loony Byrd Johnson. How about the millions of dead babies by the SCOTUS.

Clinton killed More people

Clinton killed More people in Ruby Ridge, Idaho,

Uh, Clinton was not in office in August of 1992.  You may want to remove that from your list.

Governor Palin - She is the Real Deal !

I should have looked up my dates, I remembered Janet Reno and assumed it was Clinton. Guess it;s true about "assume" making an ass out of u and me. Sure got me. I'll leave it as is for the trolls to have fun. Guess I'm prejudiced against Clinton, he was our first black president.

Grocery checkout line/personality cult update

While buying groceries, I was once again confronted with the following:

On the cover of what I believe is called More magazine: a smiling, striking image of Michelle Obama.

On the cover of Men's Health,an image of Barack H. Obama smiling warmly.

Again, this is NOT a Presidential candidate.  This IS a personality cult.

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

I know what you mean...these creatures expect just a wink and a smile to be enough for the lemmings to go off the cliff for them...
